The more I support local music in downtown Albany, the more it makes me want to get a band of my own. I could see myself rockin’ out on bigger stages like that. Maybe someday it’ll happen but if not, that’s still cool. If I were to ever get a band, my idea of the band is to be a loud, tight, and in your face, no bullshit rock n’ roll band. It’s gonna be hard rock mayhem, for sure. Those few garageband songs I did, full band, will kind of give you that hint. I want to be a hard rockin’ band. Someday I will get my own band going, I’m just trying to improve my playing here. Need to get my sense of timing down better, and trying to improve my improvising skills. So I’m not really rushing to get a band going. I do have professional enough sounding gear for a band, so that’s a step closer. I know some of you guys want to see me have a good career in music, but I don’t want to get too far ahead of myself here. Gotta be careful with that. Don’t want to rush things.
Kev
You’ve been talking about starting a band for months. Just go do it! It isn’t that hard!
Maybe you’re right. I might take that into consideration for 2013.
Kev
I think the idea is to stop saying you’ll do things in 2013 and just go do it. You could have an ad up and have people rehearse within a week. Why are you dragging your feet?
yeah, it’s true, I can form a band anytime, and I actually tried it several times in the past before, just nothing came out of it. I’ll try again.
Thing is, it’s hard to find the right musicians that you need. You want to find the ones who have similar influences and musicians who actually like the music that you write. Find musicians who are willing to play with you can be tough sometimes. You want to make sure they support your music and respect your talent. You would also want to find the right musicians that fit the similar style of your music and have the ability to give what your songs need.
I won’t look for random musicians. I look for talent and musicianship, ’cause I wannna rock on that stage.
Kev
That’s why you have auditions, to get the right personnel. Make sure you specify your influences and intentions in your ad beforehand to weed people out ahead of time. It’s a process, but it’s how you have to do it if you don’t already have a number of contacts in the music community.
Thanks for the tips, dude. I’ll keep those in mind.
