There are tons of local and unsigned bands and artists spending lots of money on studio time and CD manufacturing but they don’t really need to do all that anymore. To save a lot of money on music recording and releasing your music should be pretty easy. Since technology in music recording is a big deal these days, musicians don’t really need to rely on local studios anymore. All they really need is a good home recording rig: Pro Tools, Cubase, Cakewalk, Garageband, etc. A good enough microphone and if you want to, you can turn your home into your own studio, a home studio. You can be your own producer and recording engineer. They don’t need to spend 100’s or thousands of dollars on studio time.
In this day and age of technology and digital music… you don’t really need to release albums anymore. Bands and artists are always releasing like 12 – 15 songs an album a year but they don’t need to do that anymore. The internet is a powerful tool to get your music out there. They don’t realize it. The internet can get your music out there a lot faster than release an album a year. Releasing an album a year and forcing people to pay $10 for your album is just a lot slower to get your music out there. You don’t need to make albums. You don’t need to make people pay for it. Share your music and get it out there asap. The internet is a tool to make your music go viral a lot quicker.
This is probably why I never really cared to do “album” releases ’cause I find it a bit silly. When you’re unsigned and a local musician, you have the complete freedom to release music how ever you want to. So I think I’m gonna scratch the internet album idea and just release everything. I’ll release my songs on youtube first and then I’ll find a place for you to download my songs for your Ipods and stuff, for free of course.
Bands will never take this idea into consideration because they get so obsessed with making money off of music. That’s why they do what they do. That’s what a lot of them do this for is make music for the money. I never cared about money when making music ’cause I never did music for that. I’m not worried about money at all. I do it for the love of music. I love putting my music out there. Sharing it and people giving it feedback, good or bad.
There are unsigned bands and artists who believe in sharing their music exclusively for the internet only and for free but there’s not enough of ’em. Most everyone is into it for the money.
Unsigned bands don’t need to release albums. They just do it for “marketing” and to make themselves feel like a rock star, that’s why they do it. Period. Just my opinion.
I don’t think I’ll keep people waiting for my new upcoming songs. I’ll upload them as soon as possible. Probably next week, I’ll upload the rest of the 6 songs that I have and I’ll keep writing new ones.
Technology is a wonderful thing in this day and age. I don’t know why bands still obsess with studios and physical CD releases. They don’t know what they’re missing with the power of the internet. Be honest, nobody’s buying physical CD’s anymore to begin with and I’m almost positive not many people bought their albums on physical CD… these bands will never admit it.
