What will it take to become a more established band or solo artist? I’d say who cares! Just play and enjoy!

There are many bands & artists around here who are trying to get big & popular. Get lots of fans, a lot of interviews and press. Get all kinds of big opportunities like open for national acts and play the bigger stages. All of ’em want it nowadays but does all that stuff matter? Ya know. Move up to the next level and try to get bigger? I think you get my point.

Ya know, I used to worry about getting there and used to want it but I don’t really care anymore. Don’t get me wrong… I would like to get recognized more as a singer/songwriter and musician, get heard more… but the last thing you wanna do is be desperate for it. I’ve noticed a lot of local musicians in the area are always debating about how to get there and I think they are getting a reality check that it’s tough to get there.

Just play music and enjoy. That’s all you gotta pretty much do. Like I always say if it happens to me, great. If it doesn’t happen to me, that’s great too. I just play music for myself pretty much but I also play music for some of the fans that I actually do have and yes, I do have some believe it or not.

The thing is, don’t worry about getting big & popular. Just stay true to yourself. Be humble and respectful. Don’t take yourself serious.

Just keep making the music and see what happens. Let the music speak on it’s own. Yeah, your music maybe great but that doesn’t mean everybody is gonna like it. It’s really hard to get everyone to like your music. I know ’cause I’ve tried really hard to get people to like my music and it’s even harder to try to get people to actually listen to it. If you don’t get a lot of people listening to your music it doesn’t mean you suck, however. It’s just that people don’t really support “local music” as they claim they do. It’s all a big lie, in my opinion. The reality is people only support what they like and what they know. I tried real hard to get people to care for my music. Some do but “some” is better than nothing.

It seems that these days in order to make it to the next level in the Capital Region and establish yourself is that you win some band competition like Battle of the Bands or some contest on the radio. That’s part of why I’m not really into these band competition things.

I’m all about the love of music. It’s part of why I don’t play live too much ’cause I never saw music as a career. I just do it as a hobby and something fun to do. I don’t have “delusions of grandeur” as some think ’cause I don’t care to be some big rock star. Too many seems to have this dream these days and I’ll probably make a video rant about this soon, probably this weekend.
