CD Review: Eastbound Jesus “Hollerin'”…

The band Eastbound Jesus gave me the opportunity to give me an early listen of their 4th upcoming studio album titled, “Hollerin'” which comes out May 30th. The album will be released at the Putnam Den that day with Lucid opening the show.

On with the review of their new album, I would have to say that this was the best studio album they’ve made so far. It seems that their songwriting gets better each album they put out. I think the songwriting on this album is more mature than the previous albums. The songs are more melodic and more catchy. Once the album starts, you’ll be hooked from start to finish. I think I listened to this album about 3 or 4 times. These are the kind of songs that never leave your head. A lot of people would think this band plays country and bluegrass but if you listen to the album, you would hear that they would try to play other genres. A lot of the songs on this album sounds like it’s more jazzy and bluesy than country/bluegrass, in my opinion. It’s actually pretty hard to describe what kind of music these guys play ’cause they try to play a little bit of everything. I think it’s kind of unfair that the local press label these guys as country/bluegrass when they are more than just that.

I’m very impressed with the musicianship of all the guys in this album especially the guitar solos played by Dylan Robinson. While I think the album is really good, I just wish that dancy outro to “Beat the Brakes” could have been a little longer and that’s one of my favorite songs off the album too. It’s a pretty tight and badass song. Another favorite song of mine off the album is a song called, “Shoes” which you can hear a saxophone in that song which I really liked. Another favorite tune of mine is a song called, “Cold and Snow” which has more of a 70’s classic rock feel than country, in my opinion. “Cold and Snow” has more of an Allman Brothers/Grateful Dead feeling to it.

Both Adam and Carl sing really good. I really liked all the backup vocals too. I was very impressed with the album and it blew me away. I can’t wait to get my hands on the physical copy when I go to their CD release show ’cause I’m probably gonna go.

If you wanna go, they’ll be playing the Putnam Den in Saratoga Springs, N.Y. on May 30th.

Go to their facebook for more info and if you wanna like their page.

Great job on the album. I’m gonna listen to it a lot when I get my own copy. I’ve listened to it a lot already.
