So you’ve seen me blogging about hollywood stars and movies quite a lot, I’m sure some of you are thinking to yourselves, “How does Kev know all this stuff?” Well, I’ll explain. I’m no Hollywood expert that people out there claim me to be. I’m just a fan of movies, I’m a big movie guy and a huge movie buff. I just love movies, period.
I always thought that if you’re going to be a fan of movies, it’s very important to know all the insights about it. Stuff like:
- Knowing who the actors and actresses are, all of them, even if you don’t like them.
- Knowing who the directors are (you don’t need to learn about producers and other crew members behind the scenes of film if you don’t want to but directors are important)
- Knowing when the release dates of certain movies coming out.
- Researching on how movies are being made
- Reading movie news on the internet, discuss movies with other movie fans online in forums, read magazines, and books about movies.
- Watch behind the scene documents shown on TV and on DVDs of the movies you like.
- Just simply watch as many movies as possible, even the ones that you think don’t look interesting to you, ’cause who knows it may turn out good after all.
- And most importantly of all watch all the important classics. If you’re going to be a fan of movies and not watch any of the important classic films like “Citizen Kane”, “West Side Story”, “Spartucus”, “Casablanca”, “Godfather 1 and 2”, “Ben-Hur”, “The French Connection”, “Chinatown”, “Apocalypse Now”, etc…then what are you doing watching films then?
Once you get the idea of what Hollywood and film is all about, then you can start discussing your top favorite movies, top favorite actor and directors. The stuff that you don’t like.
Whenever I talk about movies to other people that I know in person, sometimes they don’t respond back acting like they don’t know what movie or actor I’m talking about. This is why it’s important that if you’re going to be a fan of movies, know everything behind the scenes of “Hollywood”.
I am no hollywood agent, or no damn critic, I don’t work for the profesional film industry at all. I’m just a simple movie fan that loves to learn about them. In another post later this week, I’ll name my top ten films, favorite actors, and directors to give you idea of what I mean.
I do know that there are a lot of people out there that just watch movies just for the movie alone without bothering knowing who stars in it or who directed it or how the movie is made. I can assure you that before I watch a movie, I would want to know everything about it.
When I see a movie that blows me away, that it becomes one of my favorite films ever made, like “The Dark Knight” for example, I’m going to end up watching it like 20 times or more and you learn something new everytime you watch it.
Do yourself a favor, learn more about film, stop obsessing with mainstream movies, start learning about more obscure stuff, and you would find learning the secrets of Hollywood to be a lot of fun. I’ve been learning about movies for years ever since I was a kid. I just think it’s pretty important to learn more about Hollywood if you’re going to be a fan of movies.
Kev
It is obvious that you have a lot of insight into the movie biz. Some people just go to the movies but most people don’t have the interest in the whole industry and have ideas about the actors and the scenes like that.
It wouldn’t come easy for most people but sometimes there’s a difference between “casual observers” and people who “get it.”
You get it.
Don’t sell yourself short. Maybe there is a job waiting somewhere in movie criticism.
I wonder if you have an idea why The Expendables announced like a hundred stars being in it and then they all kept dropping out one by one.
Sounds like they are ego people and primadonnas.
Like I went to the Hudson Duster in Troy once (before they were getting gang people and fights and I stopped going) and the singer was so stuck up in a local band.
The singer only sang 2.5 songs, threw his mic down and screamed “Thanks to the lame-ass security, I’m going home!” and left the whole building!
I thought there was going to be a riot with all them FSU guys so I grabbed the nearest chunky girl stroking a pool cue like it was a you know what and headed for the hills.
That was b.s. and a pro doesnt act like that.
The show must go on!
