Thought: Why dumbell forearm exercises are dumb and I will no longer do them…

I know bodybuilders want to get huge arms, by working the biceps, triceps and forearms…by just doing forearm workouts alone on dumbells, but why? What’s the point?

I started doing dumbell forearm exercises for a while. It’s those exercises when you sit down or stand, put the dumbells on your legs when you’re sitting, and just lift your hands up, then back down. You do the same with the palms of your hands facing up.

The reason I don’t agree with doing dumbell forearm exercises is that you’re already working the forearms by doing pretty much every upper body workouts you do.

Any kind of pushups, you’re working the forearms. Any kind of dumbell curls or tricep dumbell stuff, you’re already working the forearms. Any exercise that you’re doing with your arms, you’re working the forearms.

So why is it do I see people at the gym doing dumbell forearm exercises when they’re already doing forearm stuff on every other workouts? You work the forearms way too much. Don’t obsess with the forearms too much, they’ll get bigger on it’s own doing other upper body workouts, any upper body workout that you’re doing with your arms.

People lifting weights, need to think about that. I learned when wanting to get bigger and stronger arms, work the triceps more than anything else, don’t obsess with everything else too much. The triceps is the most important part, in my opinion.

  1. Actually, those are great exercises for your forearms, as are reverse curls. The problem is, with all other exercises, your forearms are always playing a secondary or stabilizing role, which is not sufficient to make them bigger. I suggest sticking with them and also doing reverse curls.

  2. And, in regards to what you said about triceps….it’s true people tend to ignore them, but don’t just focus on them. You must balance them out with bicep workouts also.

    1. Yeah, I do a lot of bicep workouts too but I concentrate on triceps the most. People make the mistake that getting bigger arms by just doing biceps only, not true at all. Gotta work the triceps too.

I disagree with forearm dumbell stuff, just my opinion. You’ll find out why, when you’ll figure it out.

    1. True that, but that still doesn’t mean every certified trainers are “right” on everything and they make mistakes on things too. I never plan to become a certified trainer myself. I’m getting into fitness and bodybuilding to get myself fit and get in shape, doing it for myself. Just because a trainer’s been doing it for years and have lots of experience in doing it, doesn’t mean they have to take their advice and go by their decisions. Let the bodybuilders and other fitness begginers decide on what’s right for them on their own. We choose our own workouts, the number of sets, and reps that is right for us.

Doing way too much forearm workouts, will make your forearms larger than your biceps and triceps. That’s what you gotta figure out.

This guy sums it up nicely and he is not even a certified trainer:

  3. You won’t make your forearms bigger than your bis and tris….ever. You don’t want to over-train them, but you don’t want to over-train ANY muscle group.

That Scooby guy is a complete steroid monster. He’s the last guy I’d take any advice from….his build is totally unproportional. Just horrible.

    1. Yeah, the Scooby guy gets a lot of haters. He gets accused of being a fake, that his home body workout programs are useless and don’t really work, but Scooby’s workout lessons is really good stuff and informative. His workouts do really work. And he has stated on his website and his message board that he never used ‘roids and always said they were bad.

It’s pretty common that ripped guys like Scooby and other amatuer bodybuilders gets attacked by other people. Bodybuilders almost always gets called ‘roid monkeys, homosexual, etc. The usual stuff.

I’ve tried many of Scooby’s workouts and followed some of his advice, his workout plan really is helpful and insightful.

I love how profesional trainers think they’re better than anybody. I learned when getting into fitness and bodybuilding, you have to deal with egos. Not that there is anything wrong with that ’cause I have an ego problem myself sometimes, lol.

Scooby’s workouts is pretty much the same stuff you do at the gym, except the only difference is, he’s teaching you how to do that stuff at home and not spending loads of money on trying to get a ripped body.
