Ever since the Attitude Era ended, and the WWE switched to PG rating, family/friendly stuff, they’ve been shoving John Cena in our faces. Cena has been getting way too much TV time. They kept pushing him to the masses. Cena has too many fans everywhere. Like I said once before, Cena is most popular with little kids and women of all ages. When people hate Cena, it’s mostly guys around my age who hate Cena.
The WWE is a billion dollar business. How do they make their money? Well, arena ticket sales for starters, merchandise sales (like t-shirts, posters, etc.), ppv buys, sponsors from advertisements, etc. That’s how they make their money so they can pay the superstars who entertain people and pay the TV crew who gets the shows going. They also pay for all the equipment and all that behind the scenes stuff. They have a team of writers for the TV storylines for RAW & Smackdown. The storylines you see on TV are what helps hype up the upcoming PPV events. So they need to have superstars that have a lot of potential, and the chemistry to help make the WWE a success.
They keep shoving Cena in our faces ’cause it’s him that keeps the WWE strong. I wish the WWE would settle down on Cena, and start pushing some of the other guys. They have been pushing some of the other guys to the main event like CM Punk and Randy Orton, but I have feeling those guys are going to get buried and they’ll get sent back to the mid-card pretty quickly. WWE is known to destroying great characters who had main event potential, they’ve been doing this for years. I just want WWE to start pushing some of the younger guys but these days, it’s all Cena, Cena, Cena.
This is why I almost gave up on WWE. I’m tired of Cena being the superhero all the time, like most people. In my opinion, Cena doesn’t do a good job playing the good guy/superhero character, or what wrestling fans call good guy wrestlers, “babyfaces”. There have been better babyface wrestlers in the past like The Rock, Stone Cold, Ultimate Warrior, Macho Man, and of course, Hulk Hogan, in the earlier days. They did the good guy thing pretty well. Cena is just boring. I don’t understand the popularity of him.
I’ll admit that Cena is a workhorse and he does put on entertaining matches sometimes, all I ask for the WWE is to give someone else a chance to shine. When Cena retires or takes a long time off, the WWE will be in trouble then. I respect the WWE, the business, and the performers. I just want the show to be better. They work hard for what they do, they do a good job at it and I respect, Vince McMahon. Vince didn’t become a billionaire for nothing. I just wish he wouldn’t leave the “wrestling” part out of things. They don’t have to go back to the Attitude Era, just bring back the good wrestling and I’ll be happy. WWE is all family entertainment now.
