As I’ve said once before, I’ve been experimenting with a lot of finger picking on acoustic steel string. Why? Because, I’m planning on writing original songs like that. I’m planning on writing a lot more folkier songs, so I wanted to get the hang of finger style guitar. Playing guitar with your bare hands, and not using a pick! I’ve already had written a few finger style like songs in the past, and “Evil Fred” was one of them. I don’t play that song with a pick. If I did, the song wouldn’t work.
I love finger style guitar, but it’s a pain in the ass to do it, all the time. The tip of your right fingers, will start hurting and you could get blisters, especially playing along with a metronome. I’ve gotten bad blisters on my finger tips before, and I had to stop playing until the blisters heal up. That’s why I gotta start making my finger nails on the right hand grow longer and I can use my finger nails as picks. It’s safer for your finger tips. I love finger style, though. I wanna do that a lot more.
I also learned that if you want to get good at finger style, you learn classical guitar, and that’s what I’m planning to do soon. Finger style really makes your right hand sore when playing it a long time. So it definitely takes a lot of practice if you want to finger pick throughout an entire song successfully.
I seem to be getting better with the metronome too. I think I will play along with the metronome from now on. It really does help your guitar playing.
