5 reasons the internet destroyed music…

Whether you want to admit it or not… the internet really has taken the love out of music. It’s almost pretty close to it, I would say! A lot of people want to mistakenly think that the internet is good for music but the reality is music was way better before all this technology came around.

Allow me to explain 5 reasons how the internet destroyed music:

  • It opens the doors for criticism of bands & artists – This is true. Since the internet is so huge in this day and age… this allows people to criticize bands in social networking sites, forums and blogs. People enjoy trashing other talent however they want to. Before the internet was invented, we didn’t have to worry about haters, trolls or internet bullies hating on bands & artists of any kind. The critics did all that in newspapers and magazines.
  • The digital age of music – Thanks to Steve Jobs, the Ipod and the Itunes… people no longer believes in buying the actual album on CD anymore. Nobody wants to buy full albums anymore also. People just want to buy their selected favorite songs for their gadgets rather than buying a full album. The Compact Disc is pretty much a dead industry.
  • Copyright & trademarks has gotten more strict – It’s getting tougher for bands to come up with band names and song titles. More bands these days are getting accused of copyright infringement and plagiarism so it’s getting tougher to come up with original music as well so it won’t sound like you’re trying to rip off another artist. It’s also getting tougher for bands & artists wanting to do cover songs for the internet as well. Before the internet came around… I remember people making bootlegging albums on cassette/CD was legal and now that stuff is considered piracy.
  • It helps makes bad music popular – We have terrible music artists like Justin Bieber, Miley Cyrus, and all the pop/rap stuff that has taken over the mainstream of music because of the internet. The internet helped inspire kids to have bad taste in music. Before the internet came around kids were listening to the Beatles, Hendrix, Led Zep, Nirvana, etc. Now everyone is listening to garbage like Rihanna, Kanye, Jay Z, Beyonce, etc. Stuff I don’t care to really listen to.
  • Social networking – With the likes of facebook and twitter, it makes it easier for bands & artists to promote their music. Nobody believes in the official site anymore. Before the internet and social networking came around, we had to look up band news and new releases through music magazines. Do you think promotion of bands and artists was easy before the internet came around? No. It was difficult back in the day. Bands promoted their albums through their concerts, FM radio, and the press. Social networking is partly responsible for ruining the music industry.

Yep, I totally blame the internet on how bad the music industry is right now. Music definitely was much better before technology came around. Yeah, I have been a music fan all of my life… even before the internet was invented so I know this stuff.
