I love oldies music in the 50’s. I grew up listening to that stuff as a kid and still do to this day sometimes. After this Ritchie Valens tribute, I would like to do more 50’s rock n’ roll. I would like to do some Chuck Berry, Bill Haley and The Comets, Chubby Checker “The Twist”, early Beatles, I’d like to sing “Earth Angel” and maybe even “Unchained Melody”. I think this style of music fits me best.
I would like to try and write original songs in that style. Bring the 50’s style into my songwriting. As a matter of fact, I’ve already written two originals in that style a little bit. Remember, “Leave This Place” and “Speak A Little Loudly”?? Those two songs were kind of 50’s/60’s like a little bit. I’d like to write more songs like that and am working on it. That’s kind of the direction I wanna head to in my songwriting.
I’m tired of musicians writing music as if they’re trying to show off how great they are and one important thing they’re forgetting is the music. That gets neglected more than anything. That’s what I’m focused on, the music and the art part of it. The songs needs passion and more heart into it and that’s what a lot of songwriters don’t put into. That has always been my only goal. Feeling the music. If you don’t feel it, then other people won’t take you seriously. End of story.
