I think I’m gonna want my internet-only album to sound really good as possible so after I get ’em recorded in garageband… I’ll get the songs mastered. I think it’s best to get the songs mastered ’cause I want the volume of the tracks to sound similar. For example, I don’t want one track to sound louder than another track and don’t want one track to sound quieter than the other. You want the volume levels to be pretty much the same. Plus, I’m gonna wanna improve the sound even better. I want the guitar and voice to be loud and upfront so to do that, I gotta master it. Maybe mastering will help eliminate background hiss and other noises too.
I went looking around for mastering apps in the Ipad and found this. This app is getting good reviews from other musicians, they say it’s good and easy to use so I think I’m gonna get this app in a couple of weeks.
I’m gonna try to avoid clipping as much as possible ’cause I want this album to sound good for y’all. Plus, I want the songs to sound good for possible radio airplay and stuff.

The internet-only album is coming along well. I’m currently working on song #7.

I have also been looking at “Final Touch” for mastering apps. This one looks even better. I’ll probably get “Final Touch” instead.

So you’re going to master it yourself…not get the mastered? Interested to see how that pans out, with every album I’ve ever recorded the mastering was the most expensive part and the part that really needed to be done by an expert. Lemme know how you find these apps to work out.
Yep, there are all kinds of mastering apps for the Ipad/Imac and all kinds of mastering software for the PC too!! I don’t think a professional studio masters home recordings, though.Mastering yourself shouldn’t be all that hard. I’ll teach myself and figure it out.
Kev
Well, it’s not that it’s hard, it’s that one of the key reasons for having an album mastered is to get someone else’s ears on it. After time spent writing and recording and mixing, the artist and the engineers have become so involved that the routine dulls everything. When you have or mastered, that person comes in fresh to identify where to eq things and adjust compression and get the “feel” of the album down.
Yeah, the production on garageband is not bad… I just wanna improve the sound some. Try to make the songs louder and fatter without the clipping. From what I’ve read the mastering apps I pointed out above are pretty simple to use. It’s not like those giant mixing boards you see in the studio.
Someday I will record in a professional studio when I come up with the money. I recorded in a professional studio once before.
Kev
You recorded in a studio? Was that your first album? Or something else?
Yeah, I recorded in a studio for a demo in 2006. It was all live recording too. No recording little parts and putting them together. I recorded it all the way through. I’m not doing it that way for this one, though. For this one I am recording little parts and putting them together. I’m taking my slow time with this one.
Kev
You can hear my 2006 demo on here. I recorded this demo in a small studio in Greenwich that was in business for a little while. I would’ve recorded there again but the guy who owned the place closed it down years ago:
Honestly, I am not really proud of my vocals on that one but I think you guys will hear a major improvement in my singing for the new one I’m doing. Can’t wait for you to hear it.
Kev
A lot of those songs on the 2006 demo are so dark and controversial. I wanna take a break from writing dark songs and start writing positive songs for the whole family. The songs for my next album are mostly gonna be about life, love and being happy. Gonna be a family-friendly one this time. There’s gonna be all kinds of back up vocals and harmonies for my next one. More slow ballads and folk stuff. There will be some acoustic rock too.
