First full band song is here…

The song is called, “It’s a Miracle”…a political rock song. Recorded in GarageBand for the Ipad. Finally figured out how to convert it to MP3 to the PC from the Ipad. Took my hours to figure it out, but got it.

I know I’m not the best at full band stuff, but this is just an idea. Give you an example of what I could sound like in a band.

Enjoy it, here, if you will. I’m pretty proud of the song, it’s got a 70’s classic rock style to it.

Full band music in garageband…

Actually, I was able to make drum & bass sound decent behind my songs. I just needed to figure out the correct bass lines, so it can sound good enough. Garageband is pretty cool for making full band music, you just gotta experiment with it and then you’ll get better at the program as you go along.

I’ll figure out how to convert the song into Mp3,so I can get it on the computer from the Ipad. I know there’s a way, I just need to google research.

I want to get feedback from actual musicians on this.

About Garageband and other recording software…

Ya know what, I’m not going to bother putting bass & drums behind my songs with MIDI, ’cause honestly, I don’t care for the sound of MIDI. I would rather have REAL bass & drums played by real musicians. They can make the songs way better than I can. Plus, I’m not that good with music theory and all that stuff yet, admittedly.

When I get enough songs down and recorded with just me and my guitar, I’ll start putting out musician ads if they want to help me with the band backup behind these tracks. If they’re willing to do it for fun, and not for money. Just a hobby kind of thing. I would like to do this.

Hell, I may as well even form a band of my own if I get enough rock songs, I don’t know. I have good enough professional sounding equipment to play in a band with. I have a good enough P.A., and a couple of electric guitar amplifiers, so I’m all good.

I played with a click track, so I’m pretty sure I got the timing down good enough.  I’m really dying for full band songs, I’ve been wanting to do this for years. It’s being worked on.

Making new music…

Yes, so I finally started writing and recording again. Trying to make a new homemade demo. Yep, you heard that right, homemade. I can’t afford studio time at this point. Garageband, makes it sounds like you’re recording in a studio anyway. Garageband sound quality, is better than ProTools, in my opinion. As I said before, I’ll be using a click track this time around so I can play in time. Using Garageband, you could put drums & bass behind your songs, yourself. As long as your songs are not too complex, it should be easy to figure out all the notes and stuff.

I’m going to post my songs in facebook exclusive for now, but sometime in the future, I’ll post them all on here. They’re gonna be mp3’s.

I’m mostly going to be doing topical songs. Yep, mostly political and protest songs. Following the same path as Bruce Springsteen and Neil Young like I’ve been wanting to do. I’ll bring back like 4 or 5 of my old songs like, “Mr. Tough Guy”, “Time Bomb”, “The Dark War”, and maybe a few others. There will be several more brand new songs as well.

I need to get new stuff out there and get my music going again. So that’s what I’m planning to concentrate on the most this Spring.

Nirvana tribute will be on hold…

I was gonna do the big Nirvana cover video tribute but I think it’s going to be on hold, or I might not do it at all. I ended up writing songs again this week. I’ve been inspired to write new stuff again. I want to try and get a new batch of originals out there. Been writing and recording a new song most of the day today. It’s a slow ballad, and the song is topical. My goal is to put out a new homemade demo for this Spring/Summer. My next batch of songs will have a mix of slow songs and fast upbeat rock n’ roll stuff. I’m hoping to get a band behind these songs, I’m gonna try.

It feels good to write originals again. I need to get back into this music thing again. Want to get back into playing live again too.

Learning timing and rhythm is helpful!!!

I’ve been trying to figure out the rhythm and timing for my original song, “Mr. Tough Guy”. It’s coming along pretty well, I’m able to figure out the rhythm with the metronome pretty easily. The music really does sound a lot better, tighter, and you can play better when playing in time. I’m planning to re-record this song with an electric guitar with overdrive effects in Music Creator 5, using a click track and play in time.

Then I’ll find a musician or two who is willing to help me put band back up behind that song with just bass and drums. I believe that song will be pretty rocking in full band electric.

If I ever get my own band going one of these days, I believe I can make some true rock n’ roll music.

About my music…

Ya know, I’m not looking to be the most popular singer/songwriter in the area. It would be nice, but that’s not what I look for in my music. I just want to be heard and get respected as a music artist. I’m just like everyone else. Just ask for a little more respect, that’s all. Of course, I can’t ask for it, I guess. I have to earn that respect.

So in order for me to get that respect,  I need to work harder on my music and improve. Which is what I’ve been concentrating on. Trying to become a better singer and guitar player, as you can see. I would like to be taken seriously as a music artist.

You have to understand one thing, that respect doesn’t fall in your lap. You have to make the best music possible. Good music is key to getting that respect. You want people to like you, the songs need to be good.

Just a little more recognition for my originals is all I ask for. It might help get that recognition a little bit if I make a full band rock album that I’ve always wanted to do.

Starting this week for my youtube channel…

…I’m planning on doing a special tribute for Nirvana for Kurt’s upcoming anniversary death, April 5th. There will be a series of Nirvana cover songs by me. Not sure how many Nirvana songs, I will do, but I will try to learn as many as I can before April 5th. I’ll try to learn up to 10 Nirvana songs. Nirvana songs are all pretty simple and easy, so I should learn most of them quickly. What will be the first song? I’m not saying. I’ll upload when ready.

I don’t need another official music website…

I thought about making another official website for my own music stuff only, but I’m not going to bother paying for another domain name. I’ll just use my official, “Kev Brock – Facebook” for my music related stuff only, that’ll be my official site for the music stuff. My blog here will be for everything else, my facebook fan page will be about my music only. That way if fans want to keep up to date with my music, go to my fan page and join it by clicking, “Like”. Behave though. Haters not allowed. Fans only, the true fans.

I’m planning on getting my music going again. With new original songs and new covers. Hopefully a few gigs this Spring/Summer, maybe hit some open mics.

I want to get a new demo CD in the works this Spring. For the demo CD, I will bring back like 4 or 5 of my old songs and will write several more new ones. I will write more about that tomorrow.

Thought: If you think you get lack of support for your music…

…don’t worry about it. I know there’s a lot of struggling musicians out there getting ignored, I’m not the only one. However, no matter what people think of you or your music, you will always get your share of supporters and fans. There will be some people that will actually care for you as a person and there will be people that will actually like your music, even if a lot of other people don’t.

Believe it or not, but I do have my own supporters & fans as well. I get people that support my music. That is one reason why I continue to do this and one reason why I’m planning to get my music going again. Doing it for my supporters who have stayed loyal to me after all this time.

No matter how many haters & doubters, you get, you will always get loyal supporters that will stick with you, no matter what happens. You will get people who believes in you.

So stop complaining about being a “struggling” musician (I need to do the same) ’cause you never know how many people actually likes you out there. You need stay positive and be appreciative for what you have.

It’s awesome I still have some fans though, I thank them for that. As long as you still have the support of those people, you shouldn’t worry about what other people think of you. Just continue to make the music for the fans that you still have.
