RANT: There is no such thing as “celebrity” in the Capital District!!!

There are certain people out there that think that just because you’re well known in the Capital District, when you get your name out there in this area, they think they get “fame”. How many times have I explained to you that there is no such thing as “fame” and being a local “celebrity” in the Capital District.

I am no big star or no big celebrity in this area. I am just a regular human being who is pretty happy enjoying life. Just a regular guy that enjoys living life, posting in my blog, just playing my guitar and writing songs. You really need to face reality that there is no such thing as “fame” in the Capital District area. Yes, there is a such thing as getting yourself recognized but that doesn’t make you celebrity.

Being local does NOT equal to national fame. The national news does not pay attention to what goes on in the Capital District. The only time when the national news do “national” reports about the Capital District is when Trey Anastasio was over here for drug treatment, 10 WWE wrestlers were suspended for failing the wellness policy in Albany, N.Y. when they performed here, and of course the Eliot Spitzer controversy.

If you want to be looked at like some celebrity, move to Los Angeles or New York City. You may have a better chance in getting “fame” in either of those two cities but you’re definitely not going to get it here in Albany, lol. But in reality, trying to get “fame” is not easy as it looks. It’s a long road, it doesn’t happen over night.

Many of the famous celebrities out there like movie stars, rock stars, sports stars, politicians, etc. They got “fame” because that’s what they were born to do. They grew up in fame because a lot of famous people grew up in a fame world. Celebs like Angelina Jolie, Drew Barrymore, Ben Stiller, Sly Stallone, Arnold, etc. They got fame ’cause they were born with it. It’s what they grew up and survived on.

You’re not going to get fame here. Even if you do move to New York City or Los Angeles permanently, it still maybe impossible to get fame in those cities as well. If I moved to California permanently (I’m not saying I will but what if), I don’t think that’ll make me a famous blogger nationally either.

When you get fame, you’ll know… when you get a gang of papparazi following you everywhere you go 24/7 but you’re certainly not going to get that in Albany. And on top of that, I don’t want fame anyways. I am not blogging or playing music for fame, they are just a little hobby I like to do in life. I’m not aiming for no big career for music or blogging, they are just something I love to do.

There is no such thing as fame or celebrity here in this area. The truth hurts but sometimes the truth needs to be said and you need to get out of that fantasy world of yours.

Boring Sunday…

I haven’t blogged much today because I was playing “Metal Gear Solid 4” on my Ps3 most of the day. I’m halfway through the game right now and I’m trying to defeat the first boss called the Laughing Octopus. It’s a pretty tough boss to beat, it’s kind of a bitch to get through. “Metal Gear Solid 4” is an amazing game though, only thing I don’t like about it is that the game has too much storyline. I want action, to play the actual game, they’re making it feel like a movie or a TV show or somethin’. It’s a great game with amazing graphics, I wish the Snake character would be more playable, then watchable, know what I mean? I’ll review the game when I beat it.

In other news, my next GED class is Oct 20th, I’ll be going to those classes Mondays and Wednesdays nights starting that day. It’s exciting getting an education again. I feel more motivated on learning the same subjects you learned in high school then I did back then.

As far as what’s going on in the world of music, as you see, I put up a cover song of Oasis “Shock of the Lightning”, I like how it came out, it came out okay. I plan to put up more series of cover songs in my youtube channel. I’ve gotten to like playing cover songs again. I plan to put up more Clash covers, more Johnny Cash songs, and I want to learn some Eddie Vedder’s solo stuff from his “Into the Wild” soundtrack, plenty more covers planned in the works.

One of my favorite things to do in youtube, is watching unsigned and amatuer musicians putting up home videos of them playing either acoustic or electric guitar by themselves, just singing and playing songs whether it’s an original song or a cover. There’s a lot of talented people in youtube. I enjoy listening to unsigned talent in youtube a lot more than myspace. I don’t listen to music of other bands in myspace anymore, youtube is my place for that now. There are talented musicians all over the world that are in youtube, it’s amazing. You’d be surprised of what you find in there.

Soon I’ll be posting my favorite videos of other unsigned/amatuer musicians from youtube here in the blog. You see I’ve been promoting other musicians from youtube here in the blog once in a while, I plan on doing that more often soon. If I like the music of that unsigned artist, one of my favorite things to do is to help spread the word of their music.

As far as what’s up with my original music, I’ve been writing some tunes on my guitar, I just haven’t came up with lyrics or vocal melodies for them yet, but hopefully soon. I’ve been writing down lyric ideas and just messin’ around with them until I come up with something good.

Hopefully I’ll start writing some actual songs soon. I want to get a new demo CD in the works for the year 2009, it’s been a while since I did one. My last demo CD was made back in 2006 which I named it “Dedication”, I’m dying to get another new demo album done soon. It will happen in 2009 I hope. Just waiting for the right songs to come around for it. It’ll probably get recorded in a profesional local studio just like the last one.

Going to GED adult education…

So I’ve been going to GED adult education classes to get my GED diploma. I’ve been going the last few days and so far things are going well. I graduated high school with a IEP diploma, but I’m going for a GED so I can go to college in the future. GED is just like high school all over again but a little different. I want to get an education so I can get a better job/career in life. Get back into office/business work again is the type of work I want to do.

After my GED class today, I went to Best Buy to pick up a few things. Just picked up the “Iron Man” 2 disc DVD, and picked up a few music CD’s: Oasis “Dig Out Your Soul” and The Clash “Live at Shea Stadium”, I will review those albums after I listen to them a few times.

When I went to the Wilton Mall after Best Buy, I was just on my way into the bookstore. And around comes the corner, comes walking a familiar bald looking guy. Who was that bald looking guy? It was no one other than Joe Nacco. Yep, I ran into Joe Nacco at the Wilton Mall today. I was suprirsed to see him. At first, I wasn’t sure if it was really him or not, I thought to myself, “Nah, it can’t be Joe Nacco”, but when the man stuck his hand out for a handshake, that confirms it was really him. We didn’t talk long, it was just a quick, “Hi, how are you, what are you up to these days” kind of thing, he couldn’t talk long because Joe looked like he was in a real hurry. It’s great to see Joe back in the area again though. I’m still trying to get out to see a show of his now he’s playing in the Capital District area again.

This is what I’ve been up to in life. Work, trying to get an education, and all sorts of stuff. I’ve been kind of busy.

Back home from San Diego…

Well, I just got back home from my week long vacation in San Diego, California. The Governator Ah-nuld’s state. The flights to California and back home were both good.

I went with my mother to go visit my brother, his girlfriend and some other friends that lived in San Diego. We all did pretty much everything I said I was planning on doing for fun. We did go to Balboa Park to see the Air and Space musuem, and yes, the Star Trek Exhibition was there at the Air and Space Musuem as it described on the website. Yes, we did do shopping, go to the beaches, had a few drinks at a bar, ate at a few unique restaurants and of course, we did go to the San Diego Zoo.

The Star Trek Exhibition at the Air & Space Musuem in Balboa Park was wicked cool, I friggin’ loved it!!! Everything in the Star Trek musuem was nothing about Star Trek, all the TV shows and each film, it made you feel like you were part of the Star Trek experience and it was amazing to see all that in person in front of your face. You get to look at various Star Trek uniforms from each TV series and movies. You get to stand in the transporter room and visit the Enterprise bridge from the original TV series and man, lemme tell ya, the bridge looks almost exactly like the one you saw in the original TV series. When we arrived to the Next Generation stuff, we walked through the hallway almost exactly like it was in the Next Generation TV series, of course, they showed more uniforms and they had a statue head of Captain Picard as the Borg, it was the episodes where the Borg kidnapped Picard and turned him into the Borg himself. There were also model spaceships and model weapons and equipment used in the Star Trek franchise.

It’s funny, because every person who worked as an employee at the Star Trek Exhibition is a die hard fan, they know everything about Trek. I was talking to this one guy that worked there and we were talking about the upcoming Star Trek XI film, and he says he’s very excited about it. We got into interesting Star Trek conversations.

After the Star Trek musuem, we looked around the rest of the Air & Space musuem, which I loved also, it was interesting seeing the model airplanes and spaceships all over the place.

I did get a little drunk during vacation, we all went to my brother’s friends house party get together they were having, so we partied on the beach for a while and hung out at the house there, I had about 5 or 6 drinks, I didn’t drink a lot to get myself puking or passing out, I didn’t go that far. We were partying in an apartment building full of San Diego natives, mostly people who lived there their whole lives. Very nice peeps too. I was impressed that San Diego people didn’t care about the loud partying noise. Hey, it’s San Diego, whatever happens in San Diego, ahem, stays in San Diego

I did some swimming in the beaches and got sun burnt all over. Still am sun burnt. Did a lot of walking in the sun and spent a lot of time outdoors.

We went to this cool hiking trail by the beaches called Torrey Pines where you get to walk through high cliffs and see oceans and city views. That was interesting to see. It was a long hike, about a 3 or 4 hour hike or more. But fun and interesting though. I got Torrey Pines pics coming soon.

We also went to visit a beach where you get to see animals called seals. There wasn’t many out there but I took a few pics of one seal. I’ll have it up soon.

And about the San Diego Zoo, I would think that was the best thing I went to San Diego for. The San Diego Zoo was absolutely amazing. No wonder they call it the World’s Most Famous Zoo, they don’t call it that for nothing and you must see for yourself to know what I mean. We went to the San Diego Zoo yesterday, went with my mother, brother and sister, a family kind of thing. There were all kinds of animals all over the world, all kinds of birds, bears, giraffes, camels, gorillas, monkeys, tigers, reptiles, etc.

My favorite of the entire Zoo was seeing the “Polar Bear Plunge”, it’s where this huge Polar bear hangs out at, a real live one. You get to see the Polar bear swim in this giant pool and it was amazing to see, I got a bunch of pics to show you coming soon of the Polar bear.

As for resaurants we ate at, we ate lunch at this cool Mexican restaurant called the “Ortega Cocina’s”, it’s a strictly Mexican restaurant with Mexican people working there, great food and great service. We also ate at a nice sea food resaurant in downtown city San Diego called “The Fishmarket”. A restaurant that’s directly next to an oceanside. Right next to the “Fishmarket” restaurant place, there is a real aircraft carrier, yes a real aircraft carrier with planes and helicopters on the thing, it was friggin’ huge. It was unreal to see that thing. Pictures of that coming soon too.

The only thing we didn’t do in San Diego is go in the actual city part where the tall buildings are, but there’s always next time. San Diego is huge. So much things to do, you’re never bored there. It is always warm and hot there all year round nonstop with hardily any rain or nothing. It feels like summer all the time there. California was interesting. I never visited the other side of the states before and I loved it, makes me want to go there more often.

As far as Entertainment news for the blog goes, I will get back to posting that stuff up soon as I have browsed the internet for a little tiny bit to read the news that’s it, I never logged into my blog once during vacation, my brother’s house did have a computer there, just read the news while there to see what I was missing and I am seeing I am not missing much.

But there is one thing in the movie news that caught my eye that I will post next, Warner Bros. gave “Superman” the reboot a greenlight, and I’m like, huh? I will post my honest thoughts on that next blog post.

And yes, I did take a bunch of pics in San Diego, I’ll start posting up the San Diego pics tomorrow ’cause I don’t feel like messin’ around with it tonight. I just got back from an all night flight back home from across the states, I didn’t get no sleep over night. I’ll probably stay awake all day today but I will probably go to bed early tonight.

The vacation was a blast, I’m glad I went out and finally visited the other side of the states which is something I’ve always wanted to do my whole life. Pictures of the vacation coming soon, be on the lookout.

My last blog post for a while…

Well, I’ll be leaving to San Diego in a half hour. My last blog post for a while. When I get back on the 28th of Aug, I’ll write a full report and post a bunch of pics.

Enjoy the blog while I’m gone for a week, if you post comments, they won’t be posted publicily because I won’t be on, but when I come back, I will review comments and decide if they get posted or not. Remember the rules of this blog. Feel free to speak your mind on anything you please, negative or positive posting, I don’t care, but keep everything on topic to the blog entry and make some sense, contribute to an insightful explanation, , just don’t attack the blog owner, which is me. No flames or attacks at me will not be allowed.

I’ll be in Albany airport a little later and I won’t be posting at all from today ’til the 28th of Aug. I’ll be back that day.

Have fun and take care.

Rock on.

More CDs/DVD reviews coming along the way…

So on my day off of work today, I decided to go on another shopping spree. I love shopping, it’s one of the things I love to do, can’t help it!

Things I picked up today:

-The Sword’s new CD “Gods of the Earth”

-Joe Satriani’s new CD “Professor Satchafunkilus and the Musterion of Rock”

-Rihanna’s new CD “Good Girl Gone Bad: Reloaded”

-The new Ric Flair 3 Disc DVD set “The Nature Boy Ric Flair – Defintive Collection”

I will review all those things soon to let you know my thoughts on them.

I didn’t get a chance to see a movie in theater today, so I walked around and did some shopping instead, got to the mall a little too late.

Maybe I will see “Tropic Thunder” in San Diego next week if there is a nearby movie theater near my brother’s apartment. I’m off the computer for the night to watch the Olympics.
