It seems that almost everyone wants publicity and fame in facebook these days, with this, “Like” fanpage. Almost every famous person or famous band/artist has an official one. Even people who are not famous, seems to be making these “Like” pages in hopes of creating a fanbase with them. Yes, I know the point with these, “Like” pages, is an easier way to help get fans online together to discuss their favorite figure or whatever publicly, but all Facebook seems to be is a popularity contest. Everyone wants to be popular in facebook. Famous bands and celebrities who have their own official, “Like” page, they just use that to promote their careers and upcoming projects. The same with people who are not famous that want to promote their careers.
Why do everyone want their own “Like” page these days? The answer is really quite simple. “Ego” and people are selfish. It’s like, here I am, come pay attention to “me, me, me” all the time. People live in these delusional fantasy like worlds (that even includes myself), that people obsess with popularity and trying to get recognized by the public. That’s all people seem to be using the internet for these days is to promote their careers & projects, whatever they do. People will never admit that they’re sometimes delusional with facebook but they really are.
There’s nothing wrong with promoting and getting the word out, I’m not knocking that. I’m knocking the way people communicate with each other in these “like” fan pages. For example if Alice In Chains or Ozzy post a status to announce something, all these fans will start posting all these crazy comments. If they get haters bashing these bands, their fans will have their back 100%. Now whether you’re a famous band or a local band, these crazy bands would post random things just to look popular and to get their fans talking. I can write about this all day, I think you get my point and know what I’m talking about with these, silly, “Like” pages.
Whacky stuff, I tell ya.
