It was Jill Sobule that started the “I Kissed A Girl” thing. Not Katy Perry. Is every female musician who writes a song about kissing women becomes such a mainstream hit?
I’m sick of the Katy Perry hype over this song. Katy Perry’s song is not a Jill Sobule cover, both songs are completely different with different lyrics and music but under the same title. Katy Perry stole from Jill over this whole kissing women thing in songs.
Lets just hope Jill herself will slam Katy with a copyright infringement lawsuit because Katy stole Jill’s fame out of the song. Shame on the music industry for letting Katy release that stupid song. Jill’s song is ten times better then that piece of trash. I like Jill’s version.

Both songs might have the same concept but really folks, the two songs are very different from each other. In the song writing, the presentation and the video take. I think Perry’s song is way better written than Sobule’s. Perry’s is also sexier & catchier. I personally think that Perry is (obviously) way better looking than Sobule. Does sex sell? Hmmmm…Not to mention that Perry’s video is better in every way. In reality, only one line in both songs are the same: “I Kissed a Girl”. WOW!! I really don’t think that there are no other similarities. To say that Perry “stole” Sobule’s song is ridiculous. There are so many songs out there that have similar words and c’mon now, that really can’t be helped. Sobule never got to where Perry is at right now for one reason…..Perry RULES!! BTW: While she is “not bad”….Who IS Sobule???

I’m pretty sure a song title cannot be copyrighted so in terms of potential lawsuits unless the lyrics are really close or the melody or something in that regard, nothing will come of this.
You can’t copyright fame or the lack thereof. If that were the case, bands like Green Day and Blink 182 owe millions to the punk bands they “copied” on their way to the bank.
