Thought: The hypocrisy and the egos of the local music scene…

You know what I find funny. I find it hilarious on how if you’re a musician who don’t play out much and the musicians that do play out on a regular basis in a profesional level will constantly slam you by saying stuff like “You have no right to discuss your opinions on local music, since your music is crap and you don’t play any shows”.

Like I said in an earlier blog about this, I hear that all the time and it’s nothing to new me. I just kind of ignore it all and just laugh at it like a man. When you say something like that, it makes you look like a hypocrite, you say something like that, because it makes you want to feel tough and you think you’re better than me, because you play in a full time band that plays a lot of shows.

What gives this area the right to have complete control of the local music scene? You have none. All of us musicians have our own complete control of our own music. You don’t control us. Us musicians control our own profesion. You have no right to tell other musicians what to do or tell other musicians what to say in the local music scene. It’s a free country here, we do what we want to do.

People can say whatever they want about the Brock. They can all say I suck and have no talent, blah blah blah or don’t deserve to be playing any shows. Nothing is gonna stop me from doing what I enjoy. Playing my guitar and rocking out at live shows. I ain’t gonna listen to anybody and keep doing what I love is music. I’m a music lover like everyone else.

People make fun of me now that I don’t play any shows. Hello, correction, I’ve been playing a lot of shows for the past couple of years, I played a little over 35 shows at almost every venue aorund the area. That’s quite a lot of work for an acoustic guy.

I’m not playing shows right now for my own reasons, not because anyone else “don’t want me playing” or they think “I suck”. I’m taking a break from playing live shows to write up some new songs and get a new demo album in the works. When I get some new songs out that I’m proud of playing out with, then I’ll start playing a bunch of shows again.

I do what every musician and bands do. Write songs, get ’em released, play a bunch of live shows to get ’em out there, and then take a little break. It’s what all musicians do. Just watch and see, when ever I get a new demo out, I’ll be back out on the local music scene playing shows on a regular basis again like I did last year.

Just keep doing what you’re doing, whatever makes you happy and don’t let anybody bring you down, I sure as hell don’t. The hypocrisy and the egos of this area continues to grow wild. Just because you’re a band manager, promoter, booking agent, or heck even a musician in some band, does not make you better than me or anyone else.

I will be back out in the scene full time again soon, just you wait. I’m just waiting for the right time. I’m actually thinking about going back out there this fall, not sure yet, I’d like to play P4th, Flavour Cafe or Slow Jed’s again (venues that I’ve played at before), maybe I’ll work something out with either of those venues, I miss performing in front of people.

On a side note, my vacation is this week. I’ll start packing up my clothes and things this Wed. and then my vacation day Aug. 21st this Thursday, I head on the plane in Albany airport. The first flight will land in Chicago, Ill which will be an hour flight, so I will be in Chicago for a while to wait for my next flight to San Diego which will be another 5 hour flight, so in all it’ll be a 6 hour plane ride to San Diego. Looking forward to it and getting psyched. The day after I come back from vacation, I’ll post a full report and pictures too. I haven’t been to the ocean in a long time and can’t wait to see the Pacific. It is going to be a great vacation and I’m in need of one pretty badily.

  1. I know this blog item is old, but, hell, I’ll get 2 cents in.
Kev’s entitled to his opinion. If no one likes it, they don’t have to read it. Of course, I have my opinions. I don’t have a blog, don’t really feel the need for one. But if I did, Kev & I would argue on some points, agree on others, and at the end both would maybe have a better understanding of each other’s opinions.
    Seems fair to me.
