I miss the old days of the music industry when…

  • Back in the 50’s, 60’s, and 70’s, the A&R guy would just walk into a bar room and sign a rock band to a major label if he likes their music. Today, it isn’t like that anymore. These days you must have a profesional demo package and an agent to send to a major label if you want a deal. It’s very difficult to any unsigned band and artist to get a record deal of their dreams because these record companies are very greedy and have so much power up their ass. These days they will only sign you if you’re mainstream material. Sad.
  • MTV used to be nothing but music videos in the 80’s and early 90’s…today MTV is just garbage. All stupid reality shows and stupid late night video countdown shit.
  • Napster used to be free of downloading music. When Napster “used” to be free of downloading songs from the internet, I used to have Napster back then and I used to download a shitload of songs. Man, I miss those days. Thanks to Lars and Metallica who took that away from us.
  • Music used to be real in the past…these days music is fake manufactured shit. Bands and artists being put together by the industry. Boy bands and rap artists who don’t have actual talent and lip synching live on stage when their “fans” fail to see the truth that most boy bands and rappers are fake. I am also including some of today’s rock bands that are also fake and manufactured (examples: the Jonas Brothers, Nickelback, Korn, etc.)
  • Myspace wasn’t around to take over the music industry. Myspace is destroying the music industry as it already is.
  • 90’s grunge rock was around…I miss the old days of grunge rock…Soundgarden, Nirvana, Pearl Jam, Alice In Chains, etc. Aaaaahhh, I miss those days terribly. The only surviving grunge band that is still together is obviously Pearl Jam. Alice In Chains came back with a new singer though.
  • The RIAA wasn’t around. They too are destroying the music industry.
  • People were buying CD’s. People don’t buy CD’s at record stores anymore, these days people downloading payable songs from Itunes and other paying download sites.
  • Music used to be good in the older days. I hate most of today’s music. I can’t stand the hype of most of today’s artists: The Jonas Brothers, Miley Cyrus, Taylor Swift, Britney, Madonna, etc. They’re all talentless and so fake. The only time I “will” like a band or artist in today’s industry if a band that I liked for a long time came out with a new album like Metallica, Guns N’ Roses, Ac/Dc, U2, etc. Other than that, most of today’s music is such garbage which is why I prefer to listen to unsigned and indie bands these days.

That’s all I can think of, feel free to continue down the list.

  1. Stay on topic in this post peeps. I will not tolerate insults at the blog owner, that includes comments about me acting like I don’t know anything. Comments like those will not be approved publicily. Quit being rude and add an actual discussion to this debate, by adding more to the list. It’s just a fun little discussion, that’s all it is. Play nice and be cool. Thank you.

  3. I miss the good ‘ol days when you could kill a homeless guy and probably get away with it. And then listen to Flock of Seagulls.

  5. I also miss Headbangers Ball and 120 Minutes. And Sounding Board. And my Mongoose bike. I know Joe Saunders stole it but I could never prove it. I’ll kill you.

  6. Although the “Sounding Board” was not in the national music industry, it was local, I do miss the “Sounding Board” too. I used to watch the “Sounding Board” local music TV all the time when it used to be on the air. I think I’ve never missed one “Sounding Board” episode. I remember Amy Abdou and J. Eric Smith being the hosts. J. Eric is blogging at the Times Union now.

I miss local music TV. Somebody in the area should set up a local music TV show for Public Access. It’s been done before when I did “Groovin’ On” for Public Access. Getting your own show for Public Access is pretty easy to do because getting your own show is free for everyone for the public, anybody can get their own show on there, even I could.

I’ve always thought about putting together my own TV show for Public Access Channel 18 where I could interview musicians/bands and have live performances, but it’ll be a lot of work so, I never pursued it.

I’ll just do stuff like that for youtube.
