I’ve been writing riffs again and jotting down some lyric ideas, so hopefully I’ll finally have some new tunes to get a new studio demo album done.
I know, it’s been a while since I’ve written some new music. Been on a bit of a writers block lately but inspiration is starting to hit me again.
I may make the next demo CD a full band thing ’cause these songs I’ve been hearing in my head were meant to be played in a band. I won’t do the full band thing for live shows, but just a studio project only, maybe.
I refuse to perform live in the area, but I’ll still do studio recordings and still make new music all the time. I don’t know if the studio band project will happen right away ’cause I need to write some good rockin’ stuff for it to happen.
I love playing music and playing guitar, I’ll always be doing that. That’s pretty much my main passion than anything else.

Three points:
1) glad to hear you are writing songs again
2) you say you won’t do the studio band thing until you write some rockin’ stuff, but some of the songs you have already could easily rock if you plugged into an amp and hit the distortion pedal
3) last but not least, glad to see someone ELSE is taking the “studio band only” route. check out the “Burning Vanity” profile I just started on myspace to see what I mean.
Good Luck,
Steve G.
Yeah man, I definitely plan on making some of my older songs into full band versions with tunes like “Mr. Tough Guy”, “The Dark War”, “Demons Have Taken Your Soul”, etc. Just to name a few.
I want to concentrate on mostly new songs though but I will bring back some of the older ones, sure.
When I record in the studio, I can make the full band songs with MIDI back up, but I don’t want the fake computer instruments backing me up. I want real LIVE instruments, a live jam in the studio with real musicians.
I plan on buying an electric guitar and amp this summer. I want to make a kick ass rock record that I’ll be proud of, and hopefully people out there will like it. I won’t play live but I think releasing new music for the internet only is a great idea.

Well, there are songs from my concept album on the Burning Vanity page now. They are only demos: just me singing and one acoustic guitar. (I used the acoustic even though some songs are meant to be hard rock, where they are distorted throughout the entire song or go back and forth between clean tone and distortion.) Give them a listen and, if you like any, maybe you could help me in the studio as well.
Yeah, put together the supergroup of your dreams – Kev Zeppelin! Maybe you could write a song called “Stairway to Kevin”!!!
That’s the smart way to go! Can’t wait for the new tunes, Kevin. Hope a lot of people buy your song on itunes. If I could play a note on an instrument that didnt sound like a cat having a baby hippopotamus that’s the way I’d go.
I hope, though, you don’t do a “concept album” like some guy said. Those are usually contrived and self indulgent crap. …and worst of all, booooring.
You’re better than that and have good material that is good on it’s own. Leave that concept stuff for bands with “multi-instrumentalists” (puke-in-mouth) who wear turtleneck sweaters and never take the girl to the nearest lav for a good seeing to.
There’s nothing like giving some girl a new hairdo and a big crusty streak down the front of her shirt and then proudly walking out of the ladies room, pulling up your zipper and marching straight to the bar for a cold Schlitz….never to speak to her again.
Girls like that usually look much like Chris Robinson and are seen crying at the end of the bar for the remainder of the evening and should have known better so who can have sympathy really?
p.s. I play Scrabble and the word jumble a lot in the commie pinko muslim-Obama-loving NYTimes so I’m good with these things… and I’m pretty sure “devilref” also spells “Evil Fred” if you mix it all up.
