Green Day is not a talented band as everybody thinks they are…

I don’t understand why this band is so popular. To be honest, I am pretty much losing interest in this band and no longer caring for them. I saw them perform some of their new songs off “21st Century Breakdown” their new album on Saturday Night Live last night, and haven’t been digging their new shit.

I used to think “American Idiot” was a really good album and the best they’ve ever done, but I don’t like the record anymore for some reason.

I think there is way too much simplicity in Billie Joe’s songwriting. The only thing the guy knows how to play on the guitar is power chords. That’s how all Green Day’s songs are played are nothing but power chords and everybody can pretty much figure out all Green Day songs by ear easily. Billie Joe is not a profesionally trained vocalist, he sings like a 5 year old kid.

Most of their music is not that great anymore with the exception of “Dookie” which is a decent record and probably the only Green Day album worth listening to.

Those music listeners who are not musicians wouldn’t understand how simple Green Day’s songs are. Anybody could write those power chord songs. Green Day is no longer exciting as they once were.

It’s amazing to me how people think punk music is still alive when that genre died when Joe Strummer of the Clash left us. The Ramones, The Clash, Iggy and the Stooges, and the Sex Pistols. Those bands are the true pioneers of punk rock. Green Day are just a couple of punk rock wannabes. I am no longer a Green Day fan, so I won’t pick up their new album.

  1. I see what you mean. Why anyone would want to be described as a “punk” band is beyond me. The old school meaning of the word “punk” would be a guy on the ship (or prison) that would get boned in the ass for the lonely sailors and prisoners to take their sexual needs out on. Hardly a flattering name if you ask me. Basically the house bitch.

I am Randy Poffo, and I have spoken!

  2. I TOTALLY agree with you on this one.
Even the Clash were way more punker before they left Catbird Records and then were forced to got rid of their original drummer, John “Stumpy” Pepys.
We all know who runned the music business back then. They still do!
Even England has “them” controlling things over there, too.
That was back when the Clash were “DIY” and “street.” I think all that Jamaican crap ruined them, personally. Why does a white punk band need to play all them steel drums and smoke those “bongs” or whatever for anyway?
Same thing happened to Green Days.
Iggy will always be punk, though. RAW POWER!!!

    ROCK THE BOWTIE, CHICKIE BABIES!
