Frank Zappa once said, “drop out of school before your mind rots from exposure to our mediocre educational system. Forget about the Senior Prom and go to the library and educate yourself if you’ve got any guts.”

If you’re having failing grades or an IEP diploma — maybe if you’re even a high school drop out. Don’t worry about it. Get yourself a library card and you could learn each subject that they learn in school on your own. In my opinion, school teachers are probably the worst source to learn from. Some teachers are good and some are bad at teaching.
Yesterday, I went to get my library card. The library is cool. You can learn so much stuff from it. As you can see, I have become a HUGE history and political buff lately. I have been doing a lot of reading on both. I’ve been reading so much on government and various presidents over the years. Soon, I’m going to start reading books on different wars like World War II, World War I, The Civil War, Vietnam.
The library is awesome, and I think I’m gonna go a lot more often. If you want to be really smart… you don’t need school to be smart.
Your mind is like a muscle. You build those muscle memories to make yourself smarter just by doing a lot of reading & studying. You can do that on your own as a fun hobby. It’s a great way to get yourself a GED or to get yourself into college if you want to. You don’t need to rely on teachers to learn. You can learn yourself just by reading a lot.
I’ve been reading a lot more political and history stuff ’cause I don’t read too many fiction stuff. The only fiction I pretty much read are Stephen King books and the Game of Thrones series. I like to read a lot of non-fiction such as politics, history, celebrity biographies, rock memoirs. There’s not a lot of good stuff in the fiction world.
You can get yourself educated in the library. Not in the class room.

by the way, I’m not knocking the library…my mother is a librarian, I think they’re the best places on earth. But they are definitely not a substitute for a quality education and telling impressionable people who read your blog to drop out of school is irresponsible at best and potentially catastrophic at worst.
That’s just your opinion and entitled to it. If you want to get better at math, science, social studies or any subject you weren’t good at in school… the library would be the best place to learn from. It’s good study resource. A lot of high school drop-outs or people with an IEP diploma have used the library to get their GED’s. The library is good to learn from and you know it.
I’m getting real tired of people knocking my opinions and thoughts on everything I post even if they were meant to be insightful and good advice. Knock it off.

Also, the point Zappa was trying to make is that people should drop out of school and use the library for self taught school since the education system is broken. Using the library to learn doesn’t make people an uneducated loser… they should forget school and learn from books instead. Books are the way to go.
Kev
Using the library instead of an actual school… nothing irresponsible about it. You’re actually doing something very responsible, 100%. You’re doing something with your life and want to improve yourself. I think it’s a good thing.

What Frank Zappa said may have been pretty controversial but I totally agree with it — he brings up a pretty valid point. Who needs school to become a smart person, right? It’s your choice whether you want to get a diploma or not. If people want to drop out of school and learn on their own, that’s all fine and good. That’s what GED diploma’s are for. For either high school drop-outs or people with IEP.
I’m not saying I’m a high school dropout… just trying to make a point.
Books are a good learning experience.
I’m closing this topic… ’cause I don’t need jackasses insulting my views.
