“What is so special about John Mayer?”

What is so special about
John Mayer?
Apparently, a lot of people
like him.
A lot of women like him
and men like John Mayer
too.
Blues guitarist and pop
singer/songwriter.
You may know who he is
by his hit, “Your Body
Is a Wonderland”.

I think he is a
brilliant blues guitarist
and he’s great at guitar
solos but I think
John is a terrible
songwriter.
I think it’s his singing
voice that I can’t get into.
I also think he’s a bit
overrated.

I’m also tired of people
talking about him in
social networking sites.
It’s understandable that
a lot of young people
like him but
they need to start
having better taste in
blues music.

What about BB King, SRV, Clapton,
Albert King, Buddy Guy, Robert Johnson
and Joe Bonamassa?
They are true blues
artists, in my opinion.
John Mayer is just a
wannabe.

  1. Hey Kev, just tuning in to your poetry. Interesting stuff. I’m wondering if there are any venues in your area that has an “Open Mic” type thing for poetry like they used to have back in the day.

    1. Not sure of any poetry open mics around this area but one open mic that welcomes poetry readings is a place called Caffe Lena in Saratoga Springs. Usually every Thursday at 7.

      1. Yes, I am planning to start reading my own poetry at my live music performances maybe in between songs. Don’t know. I’m planning to start reading my poetry for audio tracks and videos in a spoken word kind of way.

    1. I’m actually into some rap. Not all of it but I can take some rap/hip hop stuff for sure. Some of my favorite hip hop artists are: Eminem, Snoop Dogg (the old stuff), Dr. Dre (“The Chronic” was the only album I liked of his), Public Enemy, Run DMC, 2PAC, Notorious B.I.G., TLC, and maybe some Ice Cube. I’ll admit that I like Lil Wayne too.

I hate Kanye West, though so don’t get me started on him… LOL!

  2. While Kanye is indeed a douchebag and I can’t stand him, you should give The College Dropout a second chance. It’s a pretty rad record.

Ever think of programming some beats and turning poetry into hip hop yourself? Might actually be easier than recording ‘live’ instruments and could be fun.

    1. I actually thought about trying some rapping myself but I think I would be terrible at it. I would need some advice and tips from other experienced rappers.

I kind of always wanted to try rap, dance or pop music. I don’t know how to make that stuff so I just stick with acoustic and rock n’ roll.
