It’s time for a new demo album I think!

I’ve been thinking lately that I think it’s about time for me to go back into the studio to record some songs again. Profesional studio quality. I’ve made a 10 song studio demo album way back in 2006 and when I put that out for the internet, it was a success. I’ve got good responses on the songs. I titled it “Dedication” for internet release. All those songs I wrote on it, “Evil Fred”, “Mr. Tough Guy”, “Time Bomb”, etc. were all written and recorded back in 2006. I feel that disc was a success since it got a good internet response and people has requested burned copies of that CD in person which I did give out to good amount of folks out there.

I’ve been writing new songs over the last two years since that disc. As you heard some of them already, the newer songs such as “Heroes Can Save You”, “Demons Have Taken Your Soul”, “Brain Is Gone”, “Be On the Run”, etc. I think it’s about time to make a new 10 song studio demo of those new songs this year. I don’t want to bring older songs back, I want to keep writing the new ones, keep making new and fresh ideas. To be more original. You don’t want to repeat yourself musically.

Whenever I discover the 10 new songs to put on the next disc, I will definitely go back into the studio again. I’m just waiting for the good songs to release publicily. Of course, I’ll record a few brand new songs for the demo album that no one’s ever heard before just like I did with the last one.

I actually would love to release a real CD sometime, a CD with a CD booklet, lyrics, credits, cover art, etc. But like I always say, I can’t afford all that profesional CD manufacturing although I would like to do something like that in the future. I’m not a wealthy enough person to have my own profesional album. But I can afford studio time though, that’s about it. I just go into the studio record the tunes, and give out burned copies of my music for free to whoever wants one.

I think I will go back into the studio again, possibly next year in 2009. I need a new batch of songs to put out. I’m thinking of going for Edie Road studios in Greenwich, Marc Fuller’s studio. Rob Skane has been reccomending me to try recording there at some point and I’m actually thinking about it.

I’m a musician and songwriter and always writing stuff all the time. I’m just like everyone else that I enjoy getting my songs heard by people too whether people hate it or enjoy it. It’s all good. Yep, I definitely need to release a new demo CD soon.

I do record my songs on Pro Tools, but I’m no Pro Tools expert “yet”. I’m not a profesional producer enough so I can sound great in my Pro Tools. For now I just use Pro Tools to record my songs just to get the music off my chest like what you do on a regular 4 track. I would like another batch of studio quality songs which is why I’m thinking about getting studio time again.

Having studio quality songs in perfect sound is nice ’cause you get a much better response from listeners. The next one will probably be the same thing, just me and my acoustic. No full band yet, I don’t think. A 2nd demo will happen soon. Probably next year in 2009 so I can come up with some cash for studio time because this summer I’m saving money for my vacation for San Diego in August, I got my flight booked already!

Thought: Thinking about bringing the myspace back…

I have been thinking lately that I’m thinking about bringing my official myspace music account back. But if I do though, it’s not gonna be runned by me. I will be choosing a few trusting people to run it for me if they are willing. To post my songs, promote my gigs, etc.

There are plenty of bands/solo artists pages in myspace that are not being runned by the actual artist, some bands/artists pages are being runned by loyal fans, managers, street team, etc. So I figure why not do the same thing?

Myspace is just too hectic for me when I should be spending the time on the music. It’s a waste of time to spend hours and hours on the computer to promote your music online. I don’t see how bands/artists can do it when they should be working on their own music. This is why some bands have other people promote their stuff online ’cause the band rather spend the time on music and performing shows.

I’ll be thinking about this idea.

Cool Video: Live at P4th #10: Take a Little Trip With Me…

This is it, final song of the night, just a quick short one. Now I can relax from doing all this.

I recorded two songs from the second band Plumerai but I’m not gonna upload those in my own account, I will send the windows media files to the Plumerai band so they can upload them in their own account, I know they have a youtube. I’m a little worried of that band getting pissed at me for putting their music that’s not mine in my youtube account, so I will let them have the videos I recorded.

Hope you enjoyed my set at P4th over the weekend.

Cool Video: Live at P4th #1: “Evil Fred”

Here’s one video for now. I know the videos will come out kind of dark, I know I should have turned the light on the camera but I’m new to my videocam so bare with me. I didn’t turn the light on the cam because I figure the stage lights would make it brighter but it’s still kind of dark, you can still hear me and see me in the video though.

I will only upload 1 or 2 videos a day for the P4th performance ’cause I don’t want to spend all day long editing, trimming, and cutting videos to make ’em one song each, it’ll take all day to do every song from last night, so I’m gonna do a little at a time.

Here is “Evil Fred” the first song I opened the show with. Enjoy. More to come.

I’m off the computer for a while to ride a bike into town for fresh air and exercise, and then back home to play GTA IV until the WWE “One Night Stand” ppv comes on tonight.

Thought: Why do I play music?

Some of you may wonder what made me do this. What made me become a musician and songwriter to do what I do. Do I do this to try and become popular and get as many fans as possible? That would be nice, but to honest, I don’t care about popularity. Never had. If people want to become a loyal fan/follower of Kev Brock, that’s great, I’m all for that. If people want to think that I suck musically and think I’m one of the worst musicians that you ever heard, that’s great, I’m all for that too.

I am in it simply for the love and enjoyment of music. To be part of the musicians scene and to be sharing the music to the world. Although I do love performing live in front of an audience, I don’t really like performing too many shows. I am about sharing my original work to people. The songs that I write, I enjoy the feeling of getting honest feedback from people and it lets me know that people really do listen to my stuff.

I don’t believe in making profesionally made music albums, real albums like you see in the stores, I just feel that is not my thing. No offense to local musicians out there that do make real albums. If people want copies of my songs, I wouldn’t spend so much on CD manufacturing, I’ll just simply burn my songs on a blank CD for them. Who needs a real CD with cover art and lyrics in the booklet when all you need is blank discs you get from Kmart or Radioshack to make a demo album? I’m in it to get my tunes heard like everyone else.

To have fun playing and have fun performing. I’m not in it for the rock star thing. I’m not a self inflated ego being obsessed with popularity, if popularity is what you want, that’s fine. I just want to be part of music and enjoying it.

And a reminder, I have a show at P4th this weekend on Sat. May 31st, opening for No call No Show, and some other band. The show starts at 9:00 p.m. I’ll be there for my set for sure. So hopefully some of you will too. I believe the show is free to get in. A road trip to a Kev Brock show is worth it, trust me.
