Cover songs…

I think I’m gonna be doing a lot more cover songs for my youtube channel. I want to perform cover songs that I like and the ones that inspired me over the years. I’ll be performing my favorite cover song from the 50’s to today’s music — every decade. I just want to prove people that I can be something musically. I was proud of how that “Freedom” cover came out; if you’ve noticed, the singing has gotten slightly better. Singing a bit stronger and a bit higher as well. I’ve been practicing real had on the singing like I’ve been telling you. I’ve been taking the singing a little more seriously now. I’ve always liked playing cover songs; I’ve been doing them for years ever since I started gigging.

I’ve been doing cover songs for youtube ’cause I’m not ready to start writing new originals yet; will soon. This is just another reason why I want to get better at my grammar/English. It’s also to help improve my lyric writing to the next level. Writing good lyrics requires writing good sentences just like you would do in a novel or short story. Want to read more poetry to help with my lyrics like I said previously. Music is going to change for the better, and doing all I can.

Planning to start reading a lot of poetry, I think…

I think starting this year, I’m going to start reading a lot of poetry. The reason is that I want to read a lot of poetry to help with my lyric writing. Just more of my research material. I want to try to make my lyric writing a little more poetic instead of telling a story. I don’t really like “story-telling”, kind of songs anymore. I want to do research on how to write poetry. I’m also planning to start writing poems of my own just to start practicing. If I write songs that are a little more poetic, maybe listeners will start taking my songs a little more seriously. I think the storytelling thing in folk music is old and boring; I want nothing to do with that stuff anymore. I don’t like the Bob Dylan/Utah Phillips kind of songwriting, and I don’t want to be viewed as that for my music. I just want to make my songwriting a little bit different, next time around. I don’t like spoken-word storytelling songs and a lot of my earlier music is like that. I want to start making some actual songs with real singing and all that stuff. I’m working very hard.

Sorry, I haven’t posted the last few days. It’s just that the weather have been so nice out over the weekend — I’ve been doing better things, other than hanging on the computer. Sometimes I take a little break on blogging ’cause I just don’t care anymore and getting bored of the blog. I’ll only post things if it’s only worth posting, these days.

About the Richie Havens “Freedom” cover!!!

I think I got it! After practicing and rehearsing this song all-day-long, I think I’ll be-able to play this song just fine with no problem! Yes, I have been rehearsing the song with a metronome so it can sound much tighter. I love playing an entire song throughout with a metronome. It’s a bit of work and kind of hard to play at a steady pace in sync with the beat — especially, when you’re playing at 130 bpm, which is what I set the tempo on. I’ll never be able to get Richie’s exact rhythm pattern with the song at all; so, I just gave the song my own take on it. I’ll have the video uploaded in youtube this weekend. I think it has potential to be another big cover of mine for youtube. It might become just as big as my Whitney Houston tribute. The Richie Havens tribute could possibly get even more views. We’ll wait and see to see what kind of feedback it’s gonna get. It’s not that hard to sing either. Like I said: the song is a piece-of-cake. I think people will like my Richie Havens tribute coming up. I can play so much better with a metronome too! It really helps and makes a difference in your playing!

Richie Havens “Freedom” song…

For the past few days ever since Richie’s death, I have been messing around with Richie’s “Freedom” song on the guitar and singing it too. I am using the song in an alternate tuning that he used it in and trying to make the chords similar to what he played. I’ll never be able to copy his rhythm style exactly but I can make it pretty similar. Close enough. The song isn’t really all that hard to perform as most people mistakenly think. Peace of cake really! Just a few chords, that’s it! If you can figure out his rhythm patterns and counts by carefully listening to what he’s doing, you can play his rhythm parts almost perfectly. Just learn the counts and use a metronome. When I record myself playing the song on video, I’ll play along with a metronome… just so that I can prove I can play and know what I’m doing. It’ll take me several more days of practice, but I’ll do it. I think I am going to cover this song for youtube.

I want to get my youtube account going again with cover songs and originals.

Positivity vs. negativity rant…

Why am I a good guy and a nice person? ’cause that’s who I want to be, it’s just as simple as that. I’m trying my best to become a better person online by becoming more positive and less-controversial. Try to treat “everybody” good as best as possible. I’m even trying not to be so negative in my thoughts about politics, entertainment news and all that stuff. Once in a while I’ll be negative on something if I have something to vent about — which is what I’m doing now, venting. Thing is, I don’t need drama and negativity in my life. Whether online or offline. I’ll try my best to eliminate it all.

When a heated argument happens online or if I’m having drama with people, I’ll do my best to make things positive so we can kiss and make up at the end. I try my best to turn heated arguments/feuds into a positive direction and try to play the peacemaker. If people just want to keep being negative no matter what; they’re done with me for good. I’ll act like that person is dead to me and don’t even exist. I’ve treated people like that before. It’s no secret to me.

Yes I know; I get a lot of haters and trolls who just want to piss me off for fun because they simply find it funny and amusing to them. I’m strict on moderating comments as a way to help keep them all out.

If I post a news story even if it’s something positive; people will still write hateful things. Whether I post about Sarah Palin, Arnold Schwarzenegger, Metallica, WWE, and other famous people that everyone hates; they’ll just write their negative thoughts about that stuff. They can be so hateful and vile. When I have a negative opinion on something, it’ll bother everybody and will get a backlash for it. That’s the internet I guess. All kinds of hypocrisy, drama, and soap opera bullshit everywhere. People are just weird.

I try my best to keep everything civilized — that’s how I want all of my internet discussions to be. Friendly, joyful, and happy. There are some kind people who’ll get into friendly discussions but not many. I’ve always believed that people like to be negative online is because that’s how they are in person. They’re the same way off the computer. If you see them not being nice online; chances are, that’s how they are in the real world. Assholes.

If you see me being “negative” and calling people out, then you’re just giving me a reason to. We got people online who are adults, probably, somewhere around their 30’s – 50’s. A lot of them act like children online. I’ll admit I used to be a bully and a troll in the past but I’m trying to change for the better and leave the past behind. I regret how I was before.

Sure enough, there are still gonna be people who are not gonna like me no matter how positive I am but I can’t please everybody. That’s not how this world works.

Why bands & artists are willing to give out free albums to bloggers/critics… just an observation…

It seems that most unsigned/indie talent are willing to give out free albums to bloggers & music critics over the web. Why? For a couple of reasons: 1) They’re willing to do whatever it takes to get noticed, they want their music heard and get the word out 2) They want to know how good their material is (they usually can’t tell how good it is) 3) Their way of entertaining their fanbase with positive feedback of their album. So you may ask, why would unsigned/indie bands give out free albums and not ask for payment? Well, there is a payment. Not exactly money you see. The payment is listening to the album and reviewing it. Like a “I help you, you help me” kind of thing. You know what I mean?

Most bands & artists are nice enough to send me free albums to get reviewed for these reasons.

If somehow bands & artists wouldn’t send me their music or if they prefer actual money — then they must have an ego problem and they have this self importance attitude.

I find it awesome that bands & artists are willing to mail me free albums, even their latest work or an upcoming album they haven’t released yet. I hope I get that a lot more. Bands/artists don’t just come to me, sometimes I’ll even reach out to them and they’ll be willing to send me their stuff.

This is awesome, though. I’m having a blast with this. Getting albums from bands around this area and from other states/countries. It’s letting me know that there are talented people out there. I love making bands & musicians happy and respecting them. If you respect them, they will respect you in return. There should be more albums coming in the mail next week, not sure if they’ll actually send them but who knows.

I would like to go to the movies for free and get free Blu Rays in the mail to review movies, but I’m not that far yet — I still have a lot of work to do to go that far to get recognized by the movie industry. I did get free stuff from the movie industry before though. I remember companies from the movie industry sent me a Family Guy DVD boxset and a “Memento” Blu Ray disc asking me to help promote those things on my site. Those were the only times I heard from the movie industry, but would like that to happen a lot more too.

I love reviewing material whether it will be for movies and music. It’s just fun to do.

Thinking about changing the requirements & rules around for local bands/artists reviews…

I think from this point on, I’m only going to review stuff by local bands/artists around this area and the world who have professional albums or professional videos made with great quality. I don’t mean to be an ass but I seem to review those better than the bootleg and amateur stuff  — aka, stuff with bad quality. No offense to you musicians out there who sent stuff or planning to send me stuff. Professional quality material only that’s on a CD or vinyl. Music videos must be professional quality as well.

Grammar study…

I’m not sure if some of you have noticed, but I’ve been changing my writing style to this blog a little bit. How, you may ask? I’ve been studying Grammar and English on my own. There’s something, I need to study for, and I just want to make my writing style a little better. Over the years, I wanted to make my writing style just simple and easy to read. I never took the grammar part, that seriously ’cause when you’re posting on the internet; grammar really doesn’t need to be taken seriously by people. I’m going to be taking building sentences more seriously, use of punctuation, expand my vocabulary, etc. I just want to improve my writing to the next level. I have bought a book that teaches you better Grammar, and I’ll be buying more books. I have also been studying Grammar on the internet as well. I’m studying real hard. My grades in English class in high school were decent, but I want to do my best and perfect my writing style, so I’m going to be using my blog to practice my skills. Perfecting my grammar is necessary, if you want to attract more readers to your blog and if you want people to take it more seriously. Another reason is, I’m thinking about getting back into fiction writing. Want to write a book someday. Something I’ve dreamed of doing for years.

I won’t talk about my personal life online…

For some weird reason there are too many people wondering what my life is like off the computer. The last thing I want to do is talk about my personal life. Why? Because it’s none of your business but my own, that’s why. I won’t talk about my financial income, sex life or any of those things. The only thing I don’t mind talking about in my personal life are the things that I like to do. For example, all the hobbies that I have like movies, music, fitness, and all that stuff. That stuff I can talk about. Other than that, I just can’t respond to people questioning my personal life, and it’s very rude, disrespectful that people do that. I never get into everyone else’s business, and people should stay out of mine.

It’s a good thing, to keep personal things off the internet; if you don’t want the whole world talking about it. That’s why I do nothing but talk about entertainment stuff, current events, and politics.

If you want to get to know me better, you can do that, by reading my blogs or listening to my music. Or even better, meeting me in person. That’s the only way you’ll get to know more about me. That’s as far as you’ll go. I like to keep my life private. The only thing I make public are my likes and interests.

Kev

From this point forward…

Anybody who just comes here to treat me in a negative direction or just to dick me around for fun, those kind of people will no longer be allowed to post. I don’t accept trolls or hateful people here. There’s a few certain idiots who has really nothing positive to say here, but they just continually like to fight and argue with me on here, all the time. It’s getting old and tiresome. I try to make my blog fun, entertaining and positive the best I can, but like usual, there’s always gonna be people who will still treat you negatively. I just want fun and joyful conversations. Talk to me like you would talk to me in person. Treat me like how you’d like to be treated, and your comment will be approved publicly. It’s easy, right?

I don’t appreciate people coming here criticizing my personal life and things like that, when you guys know nothing about me at all. Try saying the stuff you say to my face, I dare ya.

I’m trying to change this blog in a different direction, by talking about movies more, and reviewing local bands, all that stuff. Yet, the trolls will find their way around to find something to bash me about.

The first comment that appears on this site planning to attack me or argue with me on this site, it’ll be removed and you’ll be done commenting on here permanently. That’s it. The trolls and hateful people are done here, for good.
