The 15 Best Dads in the Movies…

Welp. It’s Father’s Day today and I figure it would be kind of fun to do a top 15 Best Dads in the movies. You know fictional characters who were fathers in films.

Here’s a top ten in no particular order:

Clark Griswold:

(I am a huge fan of Clark Griswold movies like most… who doesn’t like Clark Griswold??? Chevy Chase is the shit in this role!!!)

Darth Vader:

(When you do a Best Dads movie list, you have to include Darth Vader. One of the greatest villains of all time for sure!)

Michael Sullivan “Road to Perdition”:

(One of my favorite Tom Hanks movies and one of the best mobster movies ever made too. This movie is pretty violent and gruesome. It can get pretty intense and has a shocking ending too!)

Rocky Balboa:

(Had to include Rocky on here. I grew up watching all of the Rocky films.)

Roy Neary “Close Encounters”:

(One of Spielberg’s greatest flicks. About a man who becomes obsessed with UFO’s and aliens obviously. Roy Neary is one of my favorite movie characters.)

George McFly “Back To The Future”:

(“Hey you, get your damn hands off of her”…. Crispin Glover was the shit in this role! This film always a classic!”)

Don Vito Corleone “The Godfather”:

(Another one of my favorite Mobster movies and Marlon Brando was amazing in that role too!)

Jor-El “Superman: The Movie” and “Man of Steel”:

(A two way tie. Both Jor-El’s were really good. Marlon Brando’s portrayal on Jor El was great but Russell did a great job too!)

Bryan Mills “Taken”:

(“I will find you and I will kill you…” the first “Taken” film was awesome. Didn’t care much for the sequel, though.)

Robert Wakefield “Traffic”:

(A film by director Steven Soderbergh about the war on drugs. This is one of Michael Douglas’s best roles too! “Traffic” is one of my favorite films. One I could never get tired of watching…)

Gerry Lane “World War Z”:

(This film “World War Z” got a lot of mixed reviews but I loved it. I thought Brad Pitt was great in a zombie film!”)

Tom Stall “A History of Violence”:

(A great action thriller about a father and family man who foils a robbery at his diner and tries to save his family from criminals. This film is also one of my favorites…)

Jack Ryan “Patriot Games”:

(This character counts for this film ’cause Jack Ryan is a father in this film trying to rescue his kidnapped family. “Patriot Games” is another one of my favorite films. Love the book too!)

Darrell Curtis “The Outsiders”:

(Played by the late and great, Patrick Swayze. Love this film too much. Will never get tired of this one.)

Professor Henry Jones “Indiana Jones and the Last Crusade”:

(Sean Connery was really great in that role. I love, “The Last Crusade”. Wasn’t the best Indy film but “The Last Crusade” was very enjoyable and fun, though!)

That’s it! Enjoy the list and Happy Father’s day!

The Top Ten Best TV Dads

In celebration for Father’s Day, here are the top 10 Best TV Dads. These are my favorites at the top of my head. Enjoy the list.

  1. Lord Eddard Stark (played by Sean Bean for the “Game of Thrones” series on HBO) – The best Dad on TV ever, in my opinion. Ned Stark easily tops the list.
  2. Coach Eric Taylor (played by Kyle Chandler for “Friday Night Lights” series on NBC) – This character almost makes you feel like he’s your Dad in real life. That’s how great this character is.
  3. Dexter Morgan (played by Michael C. Hall for “Dexter” on Showtime) – Can’t leave him off this list. Love this show.
  4. Tony Soprano (played by James Gandolfini for “The Sopranos”) – It is not a Best TV Dad list, if you leave him off. I love this show, wish I could watch more of it and I only saw the first season. Will catch up with the rest of it, soon I hope.
  5. Cliff Huxtable (played by Bill Cosby for “The Cosby Show”) – Used to watch “The Cosby Show” all the time when I was younger. The Huxtable family were great.
  6. Al Bundy (played by Ed’ O Neill for “Married With Children”) – One of my favorite sitcoms, used to watch this all the time.
  7. Howard Cunningham (played by Tom Bosley for “Happy Days”) – Everyone’s favorite TV Dad and mine too!
  8. Tim Taylor (played by Tim Allen for the “Home Improvement” series) – Yes, I was a pretty big “Home Improvement” fan, another sitcom that I watched pretty obsessively
  9. Homer Simpson (voiced by Dan Castellaneta for “The Simpsons”)- I just can’t leave Homer off the list. Even though I don’t watch the Simpsons too much, I always thought Homer was a cool character. So I had to put him in.
  10. Vince McMahon (known for playing Mr. McMahon, the evil boss for Monday Night WWE RAW) – Vince McMahon never gets listed for best TV Dads anywhere on the internet and I think it’s about time for him to get on one. The father of Stephanie and Shane McMahon. Also, the founding father of WWE, so he deserves to be part of the TV Dad list.

Enjoy!

The Top 10 Best Movie Dads

In celebration for Father’s Day who are the best movie Dads, in Hollywood films? At the top of my head, I’ll name ten of my favorites.

Enjoy the list:

  1. Rocky Balboa (played by Sylvester Stallone for the Rocky series) – The character that made Sly a star. This would be my first pick. Sly plays a father very well and more realistic than any other movie Dads, in my opinion.
  2. Don Vito Corleone (played by Marlon Brando for the first “Godfather” film) – An epic performance by Brando and my favorite Godfather movie. Love this film too much.
  3. Clark Griswold (played by Chevy Chase for the “National Lampoon’s Vacation” series) – Griswold is one of the greatest movie Dads ever, so he deserves this spot. I think it would be cool if there can be one last Vacation movie with the Griswold family reunited.
  4. Jor-El (played by Marlon Brando for “Superman: The Movie” and “Superman II”) – This role is Marlon’s best acting in his career, in my opinion. Such an amazing performance.
  5. Bryan Mills (played by Liam Neeson for the “Taken” film) – Would it be badass to have a Dad like this? Have a father where he goes out to rescue kidnapped kids on their own? The “Taken” movie just rules!
  6. Dad Meiks (played by Bill Paxton for the horror film “Frailty”) – Imagine what it would be like to have a serial killer Dad? I think it would be kind of fun, honestly.
  7. George McFly (played by Crispin Glover for the first “Back to the Future” film)  – He has always been my favorite character from the first “Back to the Future” film. Crispin Glover was so perfect for that role, nobody else could play that character but him.
  8. Michael Sullivan Sr. (played by Tom Hanks for the “Road to Perdition” film) – Another mobster Dad, but a great movie and one of my favorite characters Tom Hanks ever played. Love this movie.
  9. Robert Wakefield (played by Michael Douglas for the film “Traffic”) – A great role by Michael Douglas with some really good acting. His performance is underrated in this movie, I think. Wish he got more recognition for it.
  10. Roy Neary (played by Richard Dreyfuss for the film “Close Encounters of the Third Kind”) – This is one of my favorite Steven Spielberg movies ever made. Man, I love this movie so much, I’ll never get tired of it. It’s Spielberg’s best sci-fi film, in my opinion.

That’s all, enjoy the list. Coming up next, top 10 Best TV Dads.

Top Ten Greatest Movie Dads of All Time!!!

It’s fathers Day Weekend. And I just wanted to name my favorite movie Dads of all times. Characters that are fathers in hollywood movies over the years.

Here’s my top ten in no particular order:

  • Sean Connery as Henry Jones Sr. in “Indiana Jones and the Last Crusade” – this one definitely tops my list. Definitely my favorite movie Dad that you can actually watch and enjoy.
  • Chevy Chase as Clark Griswold in the “National Lampoon’s Vacation” series – I loved all the National Lampoon’s movies with Chevy in them. Chevy Chase is great playing a family father that is a crazy whacko!!!
  • Michael Douglas as Robert Wakefield in “Traffic” – Douglas plays an intense character and some of his best acting in his career. He plays a father who has a daughter who is a cocaine addict while this war on drugs is being fought.
  • Crispin Glover as George McFly in “Back to the Future I and II” – One of the best movie Dads ever, in my opinion. Can’t forget that weird George McFly laugh and being a peeping tom. Crispin is great in both “Back to the Future’s 1 and 2”.
  •  Richard Dreyfuss as Roy Neary in “Close Encounters of the Third Kind” – Can’t forget that classic scene when this guy is at the dinner table trying to form a huge pile of mashed potatoes into a mountain shape. Great flick and one of Spielberg’s best films!
  • Marlon Brando as Don Vito Corleone in “The Godfather” – Can’t leave this classic off the list.
  • Marlon Brando as Jor-El in “Superman: The Movie” – There is something so special and very intense about Marlon Brando playing Jor-El in the first Superman movie. Something that sends chills down your spine about this character in the film. Such powerful acting, in my opinion.
  • Sylvester Stallone as Rocky in the “Rocky” series – If you’re going to do a top father’s day movie list with the greatest dads, then you have no business doing one if you leave Rocky Balboa out.
  • Liam Neeson as Bryan Mills in “Taken” – How would you like to have a father like this? If you get kidnapped by gangs and other criminals, your Dad comes to the rescue.
  • Tom Hanks as Michael Sullivan, Paul Newman as John Rooney in “The Road To Perdition” – In this fantastic and amazing movie, Tom Hanks plays a father in which his son doesn’t know that he is a career criminal aka, a mobster. Committing crimes is what his father did for a living.
