Jimi Hendrix died 44 years ago today…

Other than Jimmy Page being my favorite guitar player. Jimi Hendrix would have to be my 2nd favorite.

My top 5 favorite guitarists of all time:

1. Jimmy Page
2. Jimi Hendrix
3. Joe Satriani
4. Neil Young
5. Duane Allman

I have too many favorite guitarists but those 5 above are my heroes.

Here’s a cool live performance of Jimi in the video below. Enjoy!

New Jimi Hendrix movie biopic is on the way…

Experience Hendrix, LLC has announced they will move ahead with the Jimi Hendrix biopic. This is not to be confused with the other Hendrix biopic starring Andre 3000. This Hendrix biopic is totally different and separate. The other film with Andre 3000 is not authorized by Experience Hendrix, LLC… this one will be. In this biopic film will have Jimi’s songs played throughout the film.

No casting, no director, no writer or producers have been hired yet but they said the plot will be chronicling the life and career of Jimi Hendrix. The movie will probably go from his childhood to his death.

More on the story, here.

I’m more interested in this biopic film than the Andre 3000 film. Who is going to play Jimi Hendrix in this film? I’m pretty sure they’re gonna be accurate with Jimi’s life in this movie since this film will be made by his family. Experience Hendrix LLC, is owned by Jimi’s father and helmed by his sister, Janie.

I’m a huge Jimi Hendrix fan. He’s my 2nd favorite guitarist right behind Jimmy Page. I’m sure they will make this a good movie. It should be a hit for musicians and regular music lovers. Jimi’s story should be an interesting one, though, as it deserves to be told. I’m sure everybody would like to know how Jimi became a musician and all would be told in this film. I’m sure the film will focus mostly on his music career and his drug problems as well.

I’m looking forward to seeing how they’re gonna pull off the Woodstock and Monterey Pop Festival scenes.

I hope they pick a good actor to play, Jimi. They probably won’t go for Andre 3000, they should probably go for somebody different. I’d say go for Lenny Kravitz maybe? Lenny’s already doing some movies and he’s already a good guitar player so I say go for him. Lenny has a lot of Hendrix resemblance so he’ll be a good choice, I think.

Cool Video: A Korean version of “Voodoo Chile (Slight Return)”??? Yes please…

This gorgeous looking Asian chick covers Hendrix’s “Voodoo Chile (Slight Return)”, on a Korean instrument called, the Gayageum. This is pretty impressive playing, and gave me goosebumps, all the way through. If Hendrix himself was still alive, he would have loved her for this. She did a great job. Rock songs can be played on any instrument, not just guitar. As long as you know music theory and improvisation, you can play any type of song on any type of instrument.

Enjoy this.

RIP Jimi Hendrix, who died 42 years ago today…

Jimi Hendrix was one of the guitar greats and my heroes who made me for what I am. A guitar player. Other than Jimmy Page being the big inspiration who made me for what I am, Hendrix is right behind him.

In this interview with the Dick Cavett show, Cavett told him that he’s one of the greatest guitar players in music, and as you see in the video Jimi embarrassingly said, “Oh no”, and then admitted he’s not the greatest, he just wanted to play for the love of it.

That’s where I come from. I don’t think I’m a great guitar player or songwriter either, I just play, but there are people out there who say that I’m good all the time, whatever. It’s weird how music is. Back in the 60’s and 70’s was where the real talent was at. Today’s music is nothing but manufactured pop music which is sad.

Enjoy this little video.

Are Jimi Hendrix’s vocals his most overlooked talent? I would say so, yes…

If you read through guitar forums and other music websites on the internet, when it comes to Jimi Hendrix discussion, we all know that he is most famous for his amazing lead guitar playing skills. What a lot of people seem to forget that he was also a singer, and he wrote his own lyrics as well. His singing and songwriting skills is often overlooked by music fans. Yes, his lead guitar playing skills is great, but what grabbed me the most about Hendrix is the way he wrote his songs, with his vocals and the lyrics.

Hendrix was never a classically trained singer. He did it because he wanted to. His voice always had a blues and R&B feeling. When he wrote his songs, he would sing catchy melodies that never leave your head. Why do you think songs like, “Purple Haze”, “Hey Joe”, or “The Wind Cries Mary” are so great? Not just because of his great guitar playing, it’s his vocals. His vocals is what attracted people to his music. Do you think those songs would be big hits if he didn’t sing them? Hell no. Hendrix’s vocals was something special.

Back in the day, when Jimi performed live, there was no such thing as lip syncing or auto tune. Musicians had to play everything for real, so there was nothing fake about Hendrix’s singing back in the day. His lyrics was also the most important part of his music that people miss out. He wrote some pretty amazing stuff. Jimi Hendrix had many different talents in his music, not just his guitar playing. The man had the full package and did it all. He also produced a lot of his own music.

It is weird how the music industry gets all over his guitar playing, yet his singing is almost always ignored.

Report: Andre 3000 to cover the Beatles, Muddy Waters and others for Hendrix biopic…

Since the Jimi Hendrix estate didn’t approve, the Hendrix biopic, “All Is By My Side” to use the original Hendrix recordings for the film, that’s still not stopping the film crew for allowing Andre 3000 to cover songs for the film instead. In Jimi Hendrix’s earlier career, he started off covering other artists material. That was way before he made Bob Dylan’s “All Along The Watchtower” his anthem. Listen to the videos below, Hendrix covering the Beatles, Muddy Waters, Cream, etc.

That pic above is Andre 3000 as Hendrix on set. I’m very impressed with the look as I figure Andre would be a perfect match. It’s pretty much dead on.

More on the story, here.

Honestly, I think Janie is a bit of a bitch for not letting them use Jimi’s catalog of music. Janie is not his actual sister anyway. So what gives her the right to take total control of Jimi’s music? If Jimi himself was still alive today, he would be very flattered that his music would be considered for a movie. I think he would be honored. She’s disrespecting his legacy.

Report: Andre 3000 is Jimi Hendrix…

There has been rumors in the past that Andre 3000, rapper/actor, was supposed to be playing Jimi Hendrix, for the biopic film, titled, “All Is By My Side”, well now, the rumor has been officially confirmed. I don’t know much about Andre 3000, since I’ve never listened to rap music all that much, but I remember seeing him in the film, “Be Cool”. Looking at Andre’s photos, he looks almost identical to Hendrix, almost like twin brothers. So I must say that Andre is a perfect fit!

More on the story, here.

Like I said, I don’t know much about the music of Andre 3000, but I do know that he really plays the guitar. He’s going to have to learn more about Hendrix’s guitar style. He’s going to learn how to play left handed. Hendrix played a right handed guitar but he reversed the strings so he could play left handed. Andre may have to do the same, which may be tough for him. I’m sure Andre will be trained by guitar instructors in Hendrix’s style.

I hate most music biopics, there’s only very few of them that I loved, like: “La Bamba” with Lou Diamond Philips, “The Buddy Holly Story” with Gary Busey, “Ray” with Jamie Foxx, and “Walk the Line” with Joaquin Phoenix.

Hopefully, this Hendrix biopic will be a real good one.

40 years without Jimi Hendrix

As of today, it officially marks the 40th year of no Jimi Hendrix. Jimi is one of the guitar gods who inspired me to pick up the guitar. Some of my other guitar heroes are Jimmy Page, Eric Clapton, Joe Satriani, Dimebag and Neil Young, but Hendrix is very special to me.

I’ve been listening to Hendrix for years and I’ll never get tired of him, ever. I can listen to Hendrix music all day long. Here are five of my favorite Hendrix tunes.

Report: Jimi Hendrix to release “Valleys Of Neptune”…

Since there are only 4 Jimi Hendrix studio albums, now there can be a fifth one. The label plans on releasing an unreleased record titled, “Valleys Of Neptune”. A 12 song album featuring the final sessions of the Jimi Hendrix Experience original members. The label wants people to know that this isn’t a lost album found. It was meant to be released before Hendrix’s death. This was supposed to be the follow up to “Electric Ladyland”.

As a massive Jimi Hendrix fan, and inspiration to my own guitar playing, I’m excited for this. I’ll be buying it when it comes out definitely.
