While Michael Bay’s Platinum Dunes is starting a “Nightmare on Elm St.” reboot of the series, Robert Englund was on the Loveline radio show with a live interview to promote his new horror film, “Jack Brooks: Monster Slayer”, and of course, the interviewer asked him about the “Elm St.” remake.
Englund revealed that actor Billy Bob Thornton could possibly be his replacement. This has not been confirmed by Platinum Dunes yet, so Billy Bob starring as Freddy is just a rumour at this point. Robert Englund says he is totally cool with the “Elm St.” series starting over again and getting a facelift. Englund says that the films deserve a better update with CGI effects and all that because that stuff weren’t around back in the 80’s. Englund seems pretty excited about the upcoming remake.
Remember, Billy Bob taking over Englund as Freddy is only a rumour that was started by Englund himself, so don’t get your hopes up yet. Billy Bob Thornton is an Oscar Award winning actor/screenwriter/director and also a rock musician.
His filmography includes films such as “Sling Blade” (which he wrote, directed, and starred in), “Bad Santa”, “The Man Who Wasn’t There”, “Bandits”, “Armageddon”, “Pushing Tin”, “Monster’s Ball”, “Friday Night Lights”, “Mr. Woodcock”, “The Astrunaut Farmer”, “School for Scoundrels”, “Bad News Bears” remake, and the list goes on.

Billy Bob is not a bad choice for Freddy actually, I hope it turns out true. Billy Bob stands pretty tall like Freddy. Billy Bob has a deep speaking voice like Freddy. I think Billy Bob may be the one.
