Report: Chris Cornell goes R&B for next solo album “Scream” produced by Timbaland…

The former Soundgarden/Audioslave leading frontman Chris Cornell is about to release his third solo disc titled “Scream” which is produced by R&B superstar Timbaland. Cornell announced he is taking a step away from his usual hard rock and metal to go for a different direction in his music…R&B. His third solo album “Scream” will hit record stores Oct. 14th of this year. Chris also sang on a few songs with Timbaland for the new album.

You can hear samples off the new album from Chris’s myspace page here:

“Scream” is the follow up of his last solo album released in 2007 “Carry On” which he covered a Michael Jackson song “Billie Jean” on it. Chris Cornell’s first solo disc is “Euphoria Morning” released in 1999.

Has Cornell gone insane? Did him covering Michael Jackson a bad influence in him? We just lost a rock n’ roll Chris Cornell and now we get a pop/R&B Cornell. BOOOOOOOOO!!!!

I heard the new songs of the new samples in his myspace, and they are crap. Sorry Chris, but I prefer your older stuff better. What the hell is the man thinking? Does he want to be a pop star now? Blech!!!!

  1. Personally, I’ve grown to love the five songs I’ve heard from the album. Yes, it was a shock, at first, because this is such a departure from Chris’ other music. But Chris has always changed up his sound from one album to another. This one is no different.

OUt of the five songs, Long Gone, Ground Zero, Scream, Never Far Away, and Watch Out ….. I’d have to say Scream and Never Far Away are tied for my favorites.

Don’t judge this album until it’s been released and heard in its entirety. Chris has said the music should be heard together and not chopped down by song singles.

I’m eagerly looking forward to its release in October.

  3. What’s so great about rock music in particular? There’s good and bad music in all areas. I’ve always listened to a wide range of stuff and I dont care what kind of music Cornell wants to do. I’ll decide whether I like it on how it sounds to me, not by what its filed under in the store. So far, I’ve liked most of the new songs I’ve heard on his myspace, the track “Scream” especially. I think this new album could be really interesting and his voice sounds great on these songs.

  4. I am loving the new music. I always have to listen to his new stuff a few times to get a grasp on it, but after that I always fall in love with the music! And when it comes to Chris’ cd’s, I take them as just a preview for what is to come, because there is nothing like hearing him do his new songs live! I HATED Billy jean when I first heard it, but when it was done live, I had chills and it brought down the house! I have heard the 5 mentioned songs, two of them live and they were AMAZING! The crowd in ST LOUIS was really receptive to them as well as in wisconsin (but St louis was better:) Cant wait for the new cd to drop!

  6. Boy done lost his mind!

PS: CC was doing real soul/r&b music his whole career, and especially on his solo stuff. This is more poptart DISCO than anything else… which is pretty horrible.

  8. I like Chris’ new songs as well. I’ve always admired him for taking risks. That is why I’ve been a huge fan of his for over 15 years.

I also enjoy all types of music not just rock and roll. Everyone has a right to their own opinion. So I respect yours. The fans at Projekt Revolution Tour seemed to enjoy his two new songs off of Scream (Watch Out and Scream). So do I. I can’t wait to listen to Scream in its entirety.
    Thanks for the blog.

  10. This is not traditional Cornell, but if it can push off even a few songs of the garbage that’s on “pop” radio stations I’ll consider Scream a huge success.
