Today, I watched Roger Ebert’s appearance on Oprah. It almost makes you want to feel sad and happy for him at the same time. Why happy for Roger Ebert even if he’s been battling thyroid cancer? Because he continues to be a happy person, living life to the fullest no matter his condition. Ebert explained that he could get his lower jaw back by surgery but Ebert explained on the show that he had enough with surgeries. He is willing to live his life without a lower jaw. He is still alive today because his wife Chaz wouldn’t let him die and she did whatever it took to keep him alive to this day. Even if he can no longer eat and drink, she somehow makes him continue to live.
I remember I used to hate Roger Ebert as a critic, but now I support him for this reason. He’s now an inspiration.
Everyone knows he’s going to die soon, you just never know when. They haven’t explained how Roger stays alive when he can’t eat or drink, they’ve been private about that part for whatever reason. He may not even die of the cancer, he might even die of starvation even before the cancer kills him for good.
My favorite part of Roger’s interview with Oprah was when he gave his predictions on the Oscars. Even Roger thinks “The Hurt Locker” will win Best Picture and Kathryn Bigelow will win for Best Director. “The Hurt Locker” is winning mad at other award shows. Sorry James Cameron but looks like “Avatar” is not gonna get much at the Oscars this weekend. The only award I see “Avatar” winning at the Oscars this Sunday is for Best Cinematography/Visual Effects, that’s it. It looks like “The Hurt Locker” will sweep everything.
At least Roger can still see and hear which gives him the power to go to the movies all the time like he always had. I don’t like Oprah too much but today’s Oprah show was actually a good one.
