Brock praises Mayor Bloomberg on large soda bans in NYC… *two thumbs up*

So Mayor Bloomberg made the surprising announcement that he is planning to put a ban on soft drinks that are more than 16 ounces, just in NYC only. They’re putting a ban on that in restaurants, fast food joints, movie theaters, stadiums and arenas. Do I think it’s a good move? Absafuckinglutely!

Soda is evil. It’s not good for ya, and whether you like it or not, it is part of why obesity is a huge problem in America. Before I got into fitness & bodybuilding, I was pretty addicted to soda. Drank so much of it, and it does indeed make you fat. I had to give up soda completely. I haven’t touched any soda at all ever since I started bodybuilding.

Then of course, people on the internet are mad about this. They’re in facebook right now going, “Oh no, the gov’t is taking away our freedoms and rights. We should be able to drink all the soda we want to”. Boo Hoo… you know what? Mayor Bloomberg probably already knew that this move was going to upset a lot of people. Maybe that’s the whole point? It’ll teach people a lesson. Get them thinking first before drinking bad beverages or eating bad food, that they shouldn’t consume. Soda made me fat before I started bodybuilding.

Now that I gave up soda and most junk food, look at the change it got me. I am now more fit than ever before. I have muscle and decent visible abs. This is the goal that Mayor Bloomberg wants for everyone. He wants everyone to get healthy. Stop the junk food addiction and get fit, just like I did. Soda should be banned everywhere, not just NYC. Soda is poison.

  1. This really isn’t going to solve anything. It’s just another lib/democrat control issue. They won’t be happy until they control every aspect of our lives. You want to live in a nanny state?

Soda doesn’t make you fat. Lifestyle makes you fat. I drink around a 12 pack of Coca Cola a day, and I have a pint of Haagen Daaz every night after work while watch TV. I eat a lot of other junk food too, and a lot of foods people consider unhealthy. But I also get a lot of excersize. I’m 6’3, I weigh 197 and my BFI is under 15%.

I usually but the 24 oz sodas, but if I can’t, then I get two 16’s. Guess what? That’s THIRTY TWO ounces. Eight more than I normally would have got before a ban like this. And THAT is exactly what will happen. Folks will just buy additional sodas.

If he is so concerned about health, why notban cigarettes? Or Alcohol? How about skateboarding? Do you know many people are sent to the emergency room from skateboarding? Or snowboarding?

    1. They won’t be able to buy additional sodas, they won’t be able to buy more than 16 oz. As far as banning cigarettes, Albany is already on the move for that too. You can’t smoke at the Crossgates Mall or at playgrounds. As for alcohol, they’ll figure out a way to make buying alcohol more strict too, it’ll follow.

As for skateboarding, if you do a little research there are already towns in the Capital District where skateboarding is already banned, mostly in parks and small villages.

Obesity and overweight people is a huge problem in America. Why? Because healthy food is expensive and junk food is more affordable. In my opinion, the gov’t needs to work on lowering the prices on health food and raising the prices on junk food, that’s a perfect way to fight obesity right there.

      1. What’s to stop them from buying additional sodas? Or just going to the vendor/store right next door? Or going to the grocery store and buying a 12 pack and drinking it one sitting?

Diet alone will never make you healthy. You need a proper exercise plan as well.

Most obesity in America can be directly attributed to two things working in tandem-poor diet and laziness. When I’m training for races (cycling) my diet is around 4000-5000 calories a day, with a good 60% of it being carbs. I’m not fat, and I do not gain weight on that diet.

The government shouldn’t have the right to tell us how to live, what we can eat or drink, or what sporting/fitnessroutines we can engage in.

What if they wanted to ban weightlifting because people don’t lift properly and injure themselves? That’s no different the soda thing.

Where do you draw the line? Running? Bad for the knees. Cycling? Cyclists get hit by cars. Swimming? Too many people drown every year. A simple ban on swimming would solve that problem.

  2. BTW, I just want to add…this is not a hate post. I’m all for healthy living and healthy lifestyles. But I believe in personal freedom as well. And this is a very clear infringement upon our personal freedoms.

  3. And don’t delete these comments. You like healthy debate…this could be a good one. You can delete this comment. no point in posting it.

  4. This is about personal responsibility. The government should not be legislating that. What they need to change is health care and insurance laws. You want to live a slothenly, lazy and gluttonous lifestyle and ignore your health? FINE, go right ahead….but guess what? NO HEALTH CARE FOR YOU!!!! Pay for your own medical bills. THAT, more than anything, would get people’s heads out of their asses.

  5. If you like to do research, perhaps you should look up the sugar cionte4nt of orange juice, grape juice, apple juice or any other fruit juice for that matter, and compare it to sugar levels in sodas. Real fruit juice too. Not that “contains 10% real juice” crap.

And there are plenty of obese people out there that don’t even drink soda, or drink only sugar free sodas. As long as they have access to cookies, cakes, ice cream, chips, fried foods….and refuse to exercise, they will always be fat.

  6. Soda doesn’t kill people. People with rocket launchers kill people. Think about it. Bloomberg should round up all the fat people from NYC and bus them to Middletown, like he does with the homeless. Just kidding. But, really the soda debate… I’d buy one and drink it. Then go somewhere else to a place and buy a soda there and drink it. There are easy ways around this too.
