Freedom of speech wins!!! I’m sick of liberals attacking those who don’t agree with homosexuality or gay marriage. That stuff is not for everybody… we all have the right to believe in what we want.

I agree he has the right to say what he wants, and even though I don’t agree with his statements, I respect his opinion. However, the first amendment entitles you from protection from the government, not your employer or other private entities, so A&E is well within their right to suspend him. That decision and the reversal were both entirely motivated by money, though.
I agree with most of what you said except for the first amendment. Most liberals don’t understand it.

The 1st poster got it right. You can’t be arrested by the government for saying what you want. But you can still be denounced publicly, sued for slander by citizens/businesses, and fired by an employer who finds your public opinion to be offensive. THAT is and what isn’t protected under the 1st Amendment. Liberals and conservatives agree on this. All of this also applies to the Bashir rant on Palin, which you have correctly pointed out. No winners here but the tv network who makes money off the ratings of the show. End. Of. Story.
Oh goody. The only reason people thinks the 1st amendment ONLY protects you by the government ’cause it’s only a lousy attempt of liberals defending homosexuality and equal rights. The 1st Amendment is allowed for everything else but it’s not allowed when it comes to homosexuality and equal rights. I’ve always believed that Freedom of Speech is absolute. From what I’ve seen conservatives even agree that the 1st Amendment was made for everyone.

The topic of the 1st Amendment and Freedom of Speech has always been debatable. A lot of people have different views and opinions on it… whether or not Freedom of Speech is absolute. I’ve always believed it is. A lot of people think freedom is speech is protected without government interference. In my opinion, I think a lot of people are in misunderstanding when it says, “Congress shall make no law…”. I think that really means freedom for all of us and that is just my take on it.
Sure… you can get fired from your jobs if you say bad stuff about them but Phil Robertson never said anything bad about A&E… he just gave his opinion on gay people and it wasn’t offensive. He was just being realistic and nothing wrong with that. He was interviewed for a magazine. The interviewer asked him a question and he gave them his honest answer. That was it. A TV network shouldn’t fire somebody when the controversy had nothing to do with them at all and that was why a lot of Phil Robertson supporters were upset.
Yes, people can get sued, arrested, fired from their jobs but that’s their “absolute” right, ban people from online forums/blogs and moderate them. That stuff has nothing to do with government so that gives them the 1st amendment to do just that just like it gives me the 1st amendment to remove comments if I don’t like ’em on my blog and even kick people off.
A lot of people are confused of what freedom of speech is. Maybe the people in Congress today will explain to us what Freedom of Speech really is and how it works after all this Duck Dynasty stuff?
This is just my take on it… I don’t really wanna debate back and forth about it.
