What I don’t like about Hollywood films in this day and age…

Hollywood movies have changed big time. Nobody in the movie business knows what good storytelling is anymore. In the past, Hollywood was really good at making great films with great stories and great characters like serious dramas and things like that. Seems like in this day and age in Hollywood is all popcorn movies and action flicks that is loaded with CGI effects. There are way too many superhero films, sequels and reboots. 3D film has taken over the world again thanks to James Cameron’s “Avatar”. Horror movies are starting to get big again but even the horror genre isn’t good anymore like it used to be.

I honestly don’t like the way Hollywood is going these days. I continue to go the movies ’cause it’s what I love to do. I only go see the movies that looks good to me. I don’t see every random movie that comes out. Hollywood have definitely changed and I don’t really like it.

In the past, Hollywood would only have action films and popcorn films during the summer. During the Fall/Winter season, Hollywood would show nothing but dramas and serious historical films. Now Hollywood is showing actions films and popcorn films all year round.

Good movies with great storytelling still does come around but not as much. What do I mean for great movies with great storytelling? I’m talking about films like “Forrest Gump”, “The Green Mile”, “Lincoln” (which was great), “Gangs of New York”, “The Last of the Mohicans”, “Schindler’s List”, “The Godfather”, “One Flew Over the Cuckoo’s Nest”, “Chinatown”, etc. The serious films with deep storytelling. Those are the kind of movies I like. Those days are over now.

All Hollywood cares about is making billions of dollars. This is why I prefer to watch older movies mostly. I have been watching a lot of classics more than the new films. Just the other night I just watched the film, “Charade” with Audrey Hepburn and Cary Grant on Netflix which was a great film. True cinema right there. How come Hollywood isn’t making those movies anymore?

Don’t get me wrong… sometimes Hollywood still DO come out with great movies with deep storytelling like: “American Hustle” was a great film. I LOVED the new “Les Miserables”. Tarantino’s “Django Unchained” was mind blowing. I loved the film, “Gravity”. I also loved, “The Help” and the American version of “The Girl With the Dragon Tattoo” that was a great film. I loved the new “Man of Steel”. While “Man of Steel” was a popcorn flick with lots of action, it still had a deep story to it which I respected!

I like films with a good story. I honestly get bored of movies that is full of CGI and special effects, that’s probably why I hated, “Pacific Rim” and the newest “Transformers” movies.

The next film I look forward to seeing in theater is that new “Deliver Us From Evil”. It’s a horror film but it looks like it’s got a good story to tell and that’s why I’m interested. I like movies with a good story and plot. I just don’t like how Hollywood is obsessed with CGI and action. What ever makes them the money, I guess. That’s all Hollywood cares about.

    1. I agree with that and that was the point of this post. I agree all the Superhero films are annoying. I don’t go see every superhero flick that comes out. I only see the ones that look interesting to me. I’m definitely gonna see “Batman vs. Superman”, though. That one is gonna be a must see for me.
