I have plans to make a full band demo CD soon

Yes, that’s right. I am committed to do doing something musically that I’ve always wanted. Make a full band CD. When I get enough new songs written, I’m going to start searching for musicians online who have ProTools so we can work together online, putting band backup behind my songs. Yes, I will use a click track when recording so other musicians can keep time. My electric guitar and vocals sounded clean enough, so I think it’s good enough for other musicians to record their instruments on. Of course, I will pay them money to work with me if they request it to be paid but it will be worth it to make my project dream come true. My full band CD that I have planned, will most likely be a hard rock album, it won’t be acoustic. That one song I posted online, “Be Home Safe”, that song is pretty close to being hard rock/metal as you can tell. I will re-record that track to make the timing and vocals better.

After I make my full band demo CD, hopefully, I’ll start saving money to send the CD to a CD making company, to release an actual album with an album cover. I’ve always wanted to release an official album, it’ll happen someday, folks, trust me. All this stuff takes time and money to do.

Yes, of course, I plan to make a few older songs into full band versions too, songs like: “Mr. Tough Guy”, “Time Bomb”, “Take a Little Trip With Me”, etc. I want to concentrate on mostly new songs.

As far as “Evil Fred” being a full band song goes, I don’t know. I will leave that one acoustic ’cause that one was meant to be an acoustic song, not electric. I still might add a few instruments to that, “Evil Fred” tune though, maybe a couple of violins and cellos, a harp or a piano using MIDI software that I have. I want to get back into making music again, so I can get back out there in the scene, playing live gigs ’cause I miss that. This time do something a little different ’cause this acoustic thing can get boring after awhile.

New song? New Brock music on the way???

Well, new song ideas are starting to hit me, pretty hard. Yes, I’ve finally started writing new ones again. Recorded a new one on my ProTools this morning. Here is a new song called, “Be Home Safe”, another war/political based song, a song about being home safely and staying alive from all the wars and evil in the world. This is just a rough draft, it was quickly recorded in one take. The vocals aren’t the best and no click track with the guitar playing. I will improve the song down the road.

It’s just me and my electric guitar, using a Boss Super Overdrive pedal. I hope this will be a full band track down the road too and I hope to make a full band demo CD in the future.

Enjoy it, here. Click play or feel free to download.

Brock misses rockin’ out in the music scene…

Yep, I really miss it. Starting to miss rocking out in the music scene. I did it around 2006-2008. I remember my last gig too. It was on May 31st, 2008 @ Positively 4th Street. I have that entire performance in my youtube channel. I miss putting together my own shows and sharing the stage with other solo acoustic acts, and I’ve opened for plenty of full bands around the area too. It was a great ride. I want to experience that ride again. I need to get back out there, badly. I had a hand in helping new and upcoming musicians to get their start playing out there. I helped my cousin’s band, Joe Nacco, Rob Skane, flakjacket, C.E. Skidmore, Katie Haverly, Steve Grogan, etc. the list goes on. I remember those days. Sure, I had my ups and downs when playing out in the music scene, but every band out there experiences ups & downs. So I’m learning not to take it all seriously. I didn’t get nothing in return for helping the music scene but you know what? I’m cool with that. I just liked helping out other musicians, meeting other musicians and to help promote their music as well. It’s just what I liked to do. It was my clever  way to promote my own music.

I’ll get back out there at some point. I need to have a new demo ready with new songs to promote out there first. I hope to make an official album one of these days too, with an actual CD cover and all that. I took a long hiatus from music to improve my guitar playing and get better at songwriting. I’m serious in getting my own band someday and it will happen. It’ll be just a three piece. Drummer, bass, and me on guitar/vocals, I will be the lead guitarist too. That’s my plan. Haven’t came up with a band name yet, but when I do, I’m going to trademark it before I get it out there. Trademarking your band name is very important which a lot of bands around here forget to do. They think they can go out there and not trademark your stuff, thinking that no one else will steal your band name. It can happen or worse, what if some other band already have that name you picked? You could get sued by that band, you don’t want that, do ya?

I want to experience rockin’ out clubs with a full band. It’s something I’ve been wanting to do for a long long time. Not sure when will I start auditioning though. I want to have some new original songs to rehearse with first, then I’ll start auditioning. I have a vision that I want this band to be super tight, a Led Zep kind of thing. Yes, there will probably be long 10-20 minute jams for one song ’cause I probably going to want to jam like that.

I’m not looking to be big and popular, I just want to rock out and enjoy myself!

This site will be my official site from this point on…

I’ve thought about making a different official site for my music only, but I think I’m just going to use this one. WordPress is my new home. I will find a domain name and could possibly name this site, “kbrocking.com” if it’s available.

The thing is about my upcoming songs I plan to do, I’m not just going to do songs on politics and war only ’cause that would be boring if I wrote nothing but war songs. I decided that I’m going to do something more creatively with my music. I will write songs about stuff going on in the news, celebrity gossip, the entertainment industry, etc. Write my thoughts on entertainment in song just like I do here in this site. I just want to write songs about real things.

I’m getting serious with music again and want to get back out there. Yes, playing gigs again. First, I need to write new songs  ’cause I don’t want to continue to play the old songs at every gig. I’m hoping to get a band going together someday in the future so I can start playing at the full band rock clubs like the Putnam Den, Northern Lights, and King’s Tavern in a full band setting. Before I start auditioning for musicians, again, I need to have new songs first. Then a studio to record in.

What studio will I go for? I’m thinking about going for Marc Fuller’s studio, Edie Road.

I feel more comfortable playing electric guitar more than acoustic to be honest. Which is what made me want to do the full band thing. So I can get my start in playing in a full band. Experiencing it like the rest of ’em. I’ve been a part of the local music scene for years and many of my musician friends out there are in bands. Everytime I see a local band show, makes me wish I had a band. That’s what inspired me to get that same idea. The Brock to start my own band!

I’ll make it happen, it’ll take some time.

Blast from the past, my old demo here…

So I decided to upload my old demo for the internets. I recorded this demo in a professional studio. These songs were written back in 2006. Around that time, I used to gig a lot…but I took some time off of performing so I can improve my music some and get some new songs written hopefully.

I wanna record a new studio demo soon, but need to write new stuff first, of course.

Here is my Reverbnation page with all my songs from the past:

http://www.reverbnation.com/kevbrock

So for the new readers whose never heard my stuff yet, there you go. That’s what I sound like as a songwriter. I hope to get new stuff out soon, I’ve been messing with stuff. Like you hear in those songs in that link, most of the songs are about crime and horror stuff.

Like I said before, I STILL have plans to make my next batch of songs to be political and protest songs, but they will still have that dark energy.

For the old fans that want to hear my music again, enjoy.

Brock definitely wants to go electric guitar full time…

Well, I plan on buying an electric guitar soon. I will probably get an Ibanez electric. The reason is, I’ve played the acoustic, most of my entire life, that it came to a point where I’m finally getting bored of it. I think I want to switch to electric guitar and concentrate on that. Concentrate on my electric guitar skills. I’m not looking to be a virtuoso or shredder or nothing like that. I will be the same thing on the electric. A songwriter. I want to write more electric guitar rock songs. Even hopefully get my own rock n’ roll band going in the future. When I get the electric, I will let you know. I already have an amplifier, I just need an electric guitar axe next. I just want to rock it up some more. I will still do the acoustic thing but my goal is concentrate on electric mostly. It’s about time something needs to happen.

The truth about the local music scene…

I may have hinted a musical comeback to go back to play local gigs around the area like I have done in the past, but I am beggining to think that it is pointless and will stick to the idea of releasing music online only, and not playing live.

Why? Because if I go back out there, things will be no different. I’ll just be playing in front of several people or to just to the venue owner alone. Plus, I am noticing that there are no venues for acoustic acts to play out there anymore. I don’t want to be playing the bars, ’cause I hate the bar scene and want to stay away from them. I want to be playing in small quiet places like cafes, coffeehouses, and bookstores but there are none of that here anymore. I am also noticing the bad attitudes and ego problems of bands, promoters, and club owners haven’t changed.

So really, what’s the point of a comeback? There is none. The truth of no longer playing out is because there is no local music scene. Yes, there are so many bands/artists and promoters around this area calling this area a music scene. How can it be a music scene when there is nothing here?

There is also not much good music to support anymore ’cause bands and artists come and go around here. Only bands/artists worth paying attention to now are Lunic, Railbird, Sean Rowe, Katie Haverly and maybe a few others.

If there was a way to get me to perform live again, I will still go play open mics here and there. I also won’t ignore good opportunities like to open for established bands, playing festivals, etc. There’s just no point in playing actual gigs on a regular basis.

As far as what’s going on with my music, I’ve been trying to come up with some stuff. Hopefully I’ll get ’em out soon when I’m ready. The internet is a good way to release music and I prefer to keep it that way.

My next set of songs planned for new demo…

I haven’t written a new batch of original songs in a long time. I’ve been planning on it and working on it. Started writing new stuff.

My plans for my next set of songs, I will no longer be writing songs about horror fiction, serial killers and the dark stuff I did. When I first started playing out, the only reason I started off writing dark material, was that I figured it would be a good way to create a little buzz with my music. Write some controversial songs that will grab people’s attention. It kind of worked. The dark songs booked me shows and people actually came out to them, and enjoyed them.

My next set of songs, I have plans to make nothing but “topical” stuff. Songs that are more real. You know, songs that are about real things…”topical songs” about current events and stuff going on in the current news. Also protest songs are considered topical.

Legendary artists like Neil Young and Bruce Springsteen wrote topical songs for most of their careers.

I won’t reveal details of what my new upcoming songs will be about as of this point, but I think they’ll still be rockin’ and tight acoustic material that I’ve always done.

I will probably release all my music to Itunes only whenever I feel like trying to figure this stuff out on how to sell our own songs on Itunes. I certainly do want to get a new demo CD in the works and I hope to do that whenever I’m ready. Music is my passion and I want to keep making music, I’ll never give that up.

Kev

Brock to release and sell music via Itunes only???

Since I’m finding so many unsigned bands and artists selling their music on Itunes, I am thinking of doing the same thing.

I’ll probably sell the songs on my first demo disc that I made back in 2006. I’ll look into on how to upload our own music to sell in Itunes, I’ll look into that today.

Any future studio demo releases, I’ll probably sell on Itunes only as well.

Itunes store is really cool stuff in my opinion.

Say goodbye to buying CD’s at the record store, say hello to Itunes, yeah!

In more music news, I’ve been writing again, writing music down but haven’t started writing new lyrics yet. Been too busy with life lately. I spend most of my time on fitness and just play guitar in between when I want to relax. I’m trying to write new songs. They’ll be coming soon, I hope.
