Sex and the City, the first movie…

So last night, I watched the first “Sex and the City” movie on HBO again. I still don’t understand the hate toward this franchise. I still don’t find anything wrong with the first movie. The way I looked at the film, it was nothing all that bad. There is not much gay material in it, just very briefly with a few minor scenes. The film is simply about the 4 women reuniting again from the TV show. Of course, they do their usual talking about men and how bad they are at relationships. The film mostly focuses on trashy fashion. People hate the series because of it’s trashy fashion? That’s the point of it. It’s suppposed to be trashy and ugly. The reason for this is, that the 4 women wants to prove that the aging professional working women are not always perfect. The series want people to hate their trashy fashion.

The thing is, it’s just a movie. That’s all it is. Why are guys out there calling it a chick flick, when I’m sure men saw plenty of chick flicks in their lives at some point. “Ghost” = chick flick, “Pretty Woman” = chick flick, “Titanic” = chick flick, “Dirty Dancing” = chick flick, “Moulin Rouge” = chick flick”, “My Big Fat Greek Wedding” = chick flick, “Thelma & Louise” = chick flick, “Julia & Julia” = chick flick, etc. I can go on with the list.

“Sex and the City” is not really aimed directly at women, even though the show is popular with women. For the record, the person who created the series, Michael Patrick King, happens to be a man. Yes, he is openly gay but they can still be interested in straight relationships, nothing wrong with that. The series is mostly about straight relationships.

I’ll be looking forward to seeing the sequel tomorrow. I know the sequel comes out today, but I have to see it tomorrow ’cause it’s my day off of work.

In defense of “Sex and the City”: From a man’s perspective…

This woman wrote a nice blog defending “Sex and the City”, the popular HBO TV series that was turned into theatrical films.

Check it out here:

I’m not afraid to say that I am a fan of the show. Was a fan of “Sex and the City” TV series when it was aired on HBO years back. Used to watch it all the time late nights. Watched every season, pretty obsessively, I believe. I never saw the first “Sex and the City” movie in theater, but actually watched it on HBO just a couple of weeks ago actually. I did like, the first “Sex and the City” movie. It was interesting.

A lot of men would trash the show, calling it a chick flick but is it really a “chick” flick? Please be honest now. I don’t see the series being a chick flick. It’s not even close. I think people are missing the point that the show was originally made for straight men and I’m about to explain why. The show’s main plot point is 4 women who do nothing but talk about men. Why? Because they want to make their romance and sex lives better. The 4 women like to make men look terrible by talking about men all the time. We all know that women’s favorite things to do is to talk about how horrible men are. I think the point of the series is that they want straight men to watch this, to give them a wake up call about what women really think of men.

And this is the reason, I’m a fan of the series. I like to learn women’s feelings on things and how they think. The writing is really good stuff, very insightful and intelligent. Men don’t want to admit they like the series ’cause they think it’s for women only, but some men end up becoming fans of the show as well. The series is not just 4 women trying to make their love lives better. It’s also more about serious things. The series tried to wake people up on sexually transmitted disease, safe sex, and promiscuity. So that’s another reason straight males should be watching the series, so they can get a wake up call, on safe sex.

I’ve seen the trailer for “Sex and the City 2” and will probably go and check the film out. Probably sometime next week. Yeah, I’m a fan of the series. Always had been. Remember, the show is not just about 4 women talking about men, the show’s goal is to help promote safe sex. End of story.

Thought: Will I go see “Sex and the City” film?

The wait is over. HBO’s longtime hit TV show made into a major motion picture is finally here. I am going to the mall this afternoon to see a flick but will I see this? Believe it or not, I was a fan of “Sex and the City” TV show when it used to be on HBO long ago but I don’t know if I will see the film or not. I’ve been seeing clips and previews of the film online, but for some reason I can’t seem to get an interest in the film. While I loved the TV show, the movie however is kind of questioning. I’m probably gonna end up waiting for DVD on this one.

“Sex and the City” will be a successful movie sure but that doesn’t mean it’s gonna be good. Could this film top “Iron Man”, “Prince Caspian” and “Indy” in the box office this weekend? “Sex and the City” will do well, but it definitely won’t top “Indy”. Just a prediction.

I think I would rather see “Indy and the Crystal Skull” again today instead.

Edit to add: Or I might check out that new horror film “The Strangers” instead, “The Strangers” that stars Liv Tyler, it sounds like an interesting flick.
