Report: The Police play final gig in NYC at Madison Square Garden Aug. 7th…

The Police – Sting, Andy Summers, and Stu Copeland played their final and last gig ever at NYC in Madison Square Garden Aug. 7th. The band played a sky rocketing 151 shows and the band made more than $358 million playing those shows.

The band played most of their usual hit songs that everyone knows such as “Message In A Bottle”, “Everybreathe You Take”, “Roxanne”, “Every Little Thing She Does Is Magic” and plenty more but the band threw in a few surprising cover songs such as Cream’s “Sunshine of Your Love”.

Sting invited his young daughters to the stage to dance along with their father during “Every Little Thing She Does…”. During the band’s cover of Jimi Hendrix’s “Purple Haze”, during the guitar solo of that song, Sting went backstage and a video screen appeared with Sting getting his beard shaved. Sting then came back out on stage, clean shaven.

When the band closed off their set, the three of the band member stood next to each other and gave the audience one final bow, hugged, and runned around on stage while the Fat Lady sang. A Looney Tunes song “That’s all folks” played as the band walked off stage.

The setlist for Madison Square Garden August 7th:

“Sunshine of Your Love”
“Message in a Bottle”
“Walking on the Moon”
“Demolition Man”
“Voices Inside My Head” / “When the World Is Running Down, You Make the Best of What’s Still Around”
“Don’t Stand So Close to Me”
“Driven To Tears”
“Hole in My Life”
“Every Little Thing She Does Is Magic”
“Wrapped Around Your Finger”
“De Do Do Do, De Da Da Da”
“Invisible Sun”
“Can’t Stand Losing You” / “Reggatta de Blanc”

Encore one:
“Purple Haze”
“Roxanne”
“King of Pain”
“So Lonely”
“Every Breath You Take”

Encore two”
“Next To You”

The Police will also release this concert to CD/DVD which Best Buy scored the right to exclusively sell it through, that way for the fans who didn’t go will still get to experience the final concert. It will be released this year on Oct. 7th.

Sounds like a good show, I’ll buy the live CD/DVD when it hits stores.

Now Sting will probably go back to his solo career and release a new solo album after this.

The Listening Room: Hear the Police perform “Message In a Bottle” at Isle of Wight…

My opinion still haven’t changed on the band. The Police sucks. They aren’t good as they used to be anymore. I think the problem is that Sting’s voice is too strong and powerful, that is not the Police style. Sting didn’t sing like that back in the 80’s when he was in the band. This is a terrible performance.

The Sex Pistols seem to steal the show at Isle of Wight, Sex Pistols were great!

Report: The Police choose Madison Square Garden in NYC for final gig…

The Police will perform their final and last gig ever at the legendary Madison Square Garden in NYC on August 7th. The concert will also be a benefit show with proceeds going to New York public television stations Thirteen/WNET and WLIW21. Tickets will only be available via donations to the station starting on June 14th. This will be their final and last gig for sure, then the band is done for good.

I’m sure the band would have loved to have their final gig at the CBGB’s the venue where they started at in the first place but since the place is dead, they may as well have it at MSG.

Report: The Police to play their final show in NYC after their tour is done…

Sting, Andy Summers and Stu Copeland will play their final and last show as the Police in NYC where the band started out 30 years ago. The Police has made a lot of history in New York City as they played a lot of shows when they were just starting out as a band. Their first number of gigs were at no where other than the legendary CBGB’s where the band was made famous. The band started in NYC and they want to end their career in NYC. They didn’t announce a date for the NYC concert just yet.

Their NYC concert will benefit the city’s local public TV stations. They will also work with Mayor Bloomberg for MillionTreesNYC.

From the Police official website:

It’s too bad that the CBGB’s closed down before their final show, I’m sure the band would have loved to have their final gig at the same venue where they started.

I’m not a fan of the Police anymore, I used to be. But Sting’s singing is too good and profesional that he doesn’t sing like he used to in the Police back in the old days. That’s why I think the Police reunion is crap.

The Police will make a stop at SPAC in Saratoga Springs to open for Elvis Costello this summer, I’m not sure if I’ll go to that or not. Probably not, I don’t go to famous national concerts anymore.
