Whose Side Are You On: Clint Eastwood vs. Spike Lee…

We know we get a lot of big celebrity feuds over the years but it’s very rare that we get a “director vs. director” type of fued in Hollywood films. Spike Lee is angry at Clint Eastwood for not having any black African-American actors in any of Eastwood’s two WWII films “Flags of Our Fathers”, and “The Letters from Iwo Jima”, the two films based on six men raising the American Flag on Iwo Jima.

Eastwood immediately fired back claiming that Spike Lee never studied his World War II history, Eastwood says there were no black people back in those days when the flag was raised, that’s why Eastwood didn’t have black people in that film.

So Spike Lee went ahead and made his own version of the film to show Eastwood how it’s done. Eastwood continues to defend himself from Lee’s dissing and ending it by saying “A guy like Lee should shut his face”.

Lee was quiet after that.

I’m siding with Eastwood all the way. Spike Lee is calling Eastwood a racist clearly and Eastwood is in no way a racist ’cause Eastwood used black people in his films in the past as he explained in the article.

Eastwood makes films how he wants them done. He doesn’t need no big shot ego director like Spike Lee pressing Eastwood’s buttons and pulling his strings.

Back off on Eastwood, Spike, you stupid prick. You provoke Eastwood, you deserve the nasty attacks by the man. That’s what you get when you mess with Dirty Harry!

Clint to Spike Lee, “Now you know why they call me Dirty Harry, every dirty job that comes along!”

  3. Why does it have to be an either or?
Spike raised a point that as a filmmaker he felt it would be more balanced if Clint showed that there were more cultures in the film. Clint didnt think it was neccessary for this film.

I found it interesting that rather than use this as an opportunity to have a bit of dialogue as to the role of media in portraying history we look at this as another opportunity to just well…vent bile…whether black or white!

  5. History should be told as it happened; history should not be rewritten for politically correct purposes or the tiny minds that advance such notions.

If we have a politically correct history; it is not history.
