“Oldboy”… both the American and Korean versions…

Over the weekend, I just watched, “Oldboy” the films based on the Japanese manga which tells the story about a man who gets held captive for 15 – 20 years and when he escapes, he tries to find the people responsible for his kidnapping and tries to get revenge. I watched the Korean version first and then the American version which was directed by Spike Lee.

Both version were honestly pretty good. The story for both of them were pretty intense. Both versions were pretty similar but a little different. While the American version was pretty good, I like the Korean version way more. The Korean version was more powerful and deep. The violence in the Korean version was more graphic than the American version plus the Korean version has more nudity. Wanna see naked Korean women??? That’ll be the version to see.

I’m glad I finally got around to checking the Oldboy films out. I’m not a big Spike Lee fan but I wanted to see his version of “Oldboy” so I can see the difference with the Korean version. Spike Lee did an okay job with his version, though, just could have been better. I didn’t think Josh Brolin fit as the main character, although he is a great actor.

This makes me wanna read the manga series of “Oldboy”. Next time I go to Barnes and Noble, I’ll see if they have them ’cause they do have a manga section. I don’t read manga too much.

Both the American version and Korean version are streamable for Netflix if you subscribe to it. I’d suggest you check out the Korean version, though. That’s the one I’d recommend. If you’re looking for something to watch on Netflix, here you go.

More on Quentin Tarantino’s use of the “n” word…

Since people are still calling out Quentin Tarantino for his use of the “N” word for “Django Unchained”, really? Why get on his ass now, when Tarantino has been using the “n” word for pretty much just about every one of his movies? He’s been using the “N” word ever since his first film, “Reservoir Dogs“. The “N” word is also all over, “Pulp Fiction“. He used it in, “Jackie Brown” a lot too! How come nobody got on his ass back then? Huh? Answer me that one. Tarantino has been having black actors in his films for years, too! So why get on him about this now? Fucking please!

His movies maybe full of foul mouthed dialogue throughout the films, but that’s Tarantino. His movies maybe full of swearing and nasty words, yes, but I think that’s how he talks in real life. His movies shows who he is.

I’m not sure why he uses, the “N” word a lot in all of his movies, but I think he has his reasons. I don’t think he uses the “N” word because he’s racist, I think he makes his movies for mostly the black audience, in his defense. If you noticed, a lot of his movies seemed to be aimed at black people for their entertainment. They weren’t meant to be offensive.

On top of all this, as far as “Django Unchained” goes, people just don’t understand the history of black slaves. That word was used a lot back then, and it wasn’t considered a racist term during that time, like I said before. Quentin probably already knew he was going to get some heat with the use of that word in “Django”, but he had to do what ever it took to make that movie right. If you do your research, the “n” word actually originated from black slaves, that’s where it came from. So he’s right on the money for using that word. He’s not racist. He’s just doing whatever makes sense for film. It was just appropriate.

I’m also real tired of people getting on his ass about gun control every time a mass shooting happens. It’s idiotic.

Leave the guy alone, already people! He’s just a film maker and a storyteller. He’s a genius. Let him do what he wants to do. He knows what he’s doing. Without the foul mouthed, bad language in his films, then his movies wouldn’t have mattered.

Report: Italian-American group to Spike Lee, “Oh yeah, well listen to this…”

An Italian-American group has been watching closely to the Spike Lee vs. Clint Eastwood fued so they want him to practice what he preaches of being anti-Italian. The group has criticized Spike Lee about being anti-Italian in his films before.

Maybe this will shut Spike up now. I doubt it though.

Whose Side Are You On: Clint Eastwood vs. Spike Lee…

We know we get a lot of big celebrity feuds over the years but it’s very rare that we get a “director vs. director” type of fued in Hollywood films. Spike Lee is angry at Clint Eastwood for not having any black African-American actors in any of Eastwood’s two WWII films “Flags of Our Fathers”, and “The Letters from Iwo Jima”, the two films based on six men raising the American Flag on Iwo Jima.

Eastwood immediately fired back claiming that Spike Lee never studied his World War II history, Eastwood says there were no black people back in those days when the flag was raised, that’s why Eastwood didn’t have black people in that film.

So Spike Lee went ahead and made his own version of the film to show Eastwood how it’s done. Eastwood continues to defend himself from Lee’s dissing and ending it by saying “A guy like Lee should shut his face”.

Lee was quiet after that.

More on it here:

I’m siding with Eastwood all the way. Spike Lee is calling Eastwood a racist clearly and Eastwood is in no way a racist ’cause Eastwood used black people in his films in the past as he explained in the article.

Eastwood makes films how he wants them done. He doesn’t need no big shot ego director like Spike Lee pressing Eastwood’s buttons and pulling his strings.

Back off on Eastwood, Spike, you stupid prick. You provoke Eastwood, you deserve the nasty attacks by the man. That’s what you get when you mess with Dirty Harry!

Clint to Spike Lee, “Now you know why they call me Dirty Harry, every dirty job that comes along!”
