I’ve only seen the first three episodes of the Undertaker documentary “The Last Ride” on WWE Network and I need to finish the rest of it still now the final episode of the show is on there.
The Undertaker (real name: Mark Calaway) announced exclusively on his documentary “The Last Ride” that he’s done wrestling for good after the AJ Styles “Boneyard” match at Wrestlemania 36. Originally, The Undertaker and AJ Styles were supposed to have a regular match in the ring at WM-36 but covid-19 forced them to do the match differently. Instead, they made the match “Boneyard” style… filmed like an action/horror movie. Yup, looks like that’s the Undertaker’s last match for sure.
The reason Undertaker is hanging it up is ’cause he feels that he has nothing left to accomplish… there’s nothing more for him to conquer and he also feels that he wants to step away to give the new talent in the business a chance to shine.
I’m sure another reason he’s done is because his body can’t take it anymore and he had way too many surgeries over the years like his documentary showed.
The Undertaker is definitely one of the most recognizable and most respected stars of all time. How can you not like the Undertaker? Even non-wrestling fans aka people who aren’t even into wrestling at all find Undertaker likeable. He’s the most respected wrestler in the industry for sure. The word “legend” gets thrown around a lot but I think that term belongs to ‘Taker and no one else.
Even though he was a huge man, he was a great wrestler and great mic worker too. He was also known as a locker room leader. Have you noticed over the years, not one other wrestler said something negative about ‘Taker? You know how other wrestlers talking trash at each other in the press in real life? Point me out where a wrestler said something bad about Undertaker? You’re not gonna find much of anything ’cause everyone in the business loved him. ‘taker was like a father in the wrestling business, ya know? Everyone looked up to him and respected him. Even the most hated wrestlers in the business loved him.
‘Taker had a great career for sure… he had matches against everyone in the business pretty much. While he did have a great career ride, I wished the long talked about match against WCW’s Sting could have happened but it never did. Sting, the guy known as a scorpion and wears makeup was dying to make his match happen with ‘Taker at a Wrestlemania but it looks like we’ll never see it happen at all. Looks like Sting’s in-ring career is about over for good too ’cause he has a bad neck.
My favorite Undertaker match of all time, though, was his Hell in a Cell match with Mankind at King of the Ring ’98. That match is such a classic and will go down in history too.
Now that it looks like Undertaker is done, hopefully he gets in the WWE Hall of Fame finally. That will probably happen next year ’cause the Hall of Fame inductees were already announced for this year.
I agree, though that there is nothing left for Undertaker to do. Wrestlemania is never gonna be the same without him.
