Why the Van Halen return matters…

Ever since Van Halen announced their tour in 2012 a few days ago, the internet have been having mixed opinions about this. Of course, the longtime fans of Van Halen, approve their return and some don’t approve their comeback at all. Why do some don’t approve their comeback? Well, the most popular arguments I’ve been seeing in facebook and other forums is that they are being wrongly accused of being ego-maniacs. Old washed up has-beens, and they are being blamed for coming back for the money. Plus, Van Halen lost some of their fans because the band is different without Michael Anthony. A lot of people also lost their respect for the band during the Gary Cherone era.

I wish people wouldn’t be so negative and harsh over Van Halen. With those arguments I listed above, I’m sure the guys in the band hear those things from people 50 times a day, so I’m positive they are used to being criticized by now.

People say it’s not a real reunion without their original members. Well I got news for ya, people. It’s not a reunion. Even the guys in the band said so themselves in interviews plenty of times. It’s more like a new era of Van Halen, minus Michael Anthony. Van Halen had different members over the years. Why does Eddie Van Halen keeps his band going?

Well, because Eddie is the leader. He owns the band. He started it, I’m sure he owns the trademark for the Van Halen band name. As long as he is in full ownership of the band, which he is, he can do whatever he wants. You can have many other different members all you want to, but in order for Van Halen to break up, that will only happen if Eddie quits playing.

David Lee Roth being back in the band is a big deal, because it was pretty obvious it was going happen. People have been wanting D.L.R. back in the band ever since the Gary Cherone, flop. So they got their wish. No matter what you think of Van Halen now, the duo of David Lee Roth and Eddie V.H. are so legendary and iconic.

Van Halen is the reason we all love music. Eddie is the reason that makes guitar playing so cool. He kept people interested in guitar playing and kids fell in love with the guitar because of Eddie. Not only that Eddie is most famous for his double fret tapping technique, he is also famous for his knowledge with guitar sound. I mean, the guy is a fuckin’ perfectionist. Over the years he had made customized guitars & amps to get the sound that he wants. He’s great with guitar tone. Only Eddie could come up with the idea of the Frankenstrat guitar and the EVH 5150 amp head. Only he could create those sounds, nobody else.

Eddie is also being accused of not being able to play guitar again because of his past with his drug/alcohol addiction. I believe he is clean & sober now, he got out of rehab a long while back. I’m sure he still has what it takes to play a killer live show.

The music of Van Halen in the 80’s meant a lot to all of us. If there was no Van Halen, then many of your favorite bands wouldn’t even be around today. The David Lee Roth era was amazing and we all deserve to re-live it again. Bring back memories from the past. That’s what this tour is about.

Kids of today’s generation deserve to know who Van Halen are. Van Halen wrote too many great songs. Not just their hit radio singles, all of their songs with DLR are great. I also loved the Sammy Hagar era too.

So is Van Halen coming back all about the money & ego? No, not at all. These guys are musicians. That’s what they do. Play music & rock out. I don’t see it as a job for them. It’s all about the love of music. That’s why they continue to do what they do. Bands change and evolve. All bands have different members over the years. Eddie keeps doing what he does as a way to help make himself a better person and helps get him out of his personal problems. Eddie and DLR are like brothers and they just want to have fun again like the good old days.

When people bash the band, they usually have nothing intelligent to say. Haters are just going to hate, hate, hate. That’s all they do. I like to treat music in a positive direction.

I’m looking forward to Van Halen coming back ’cause I’ve been a longtime fan of them.

Cool Video: These instructional videos shows you how to hook up guitar & mic into Ipad…

To hook up my guitar & microphone into my Ipad, I’m going to need a camera connection kit and an I-Rig cable. So next time I go to Best Buy, I’ll look into those. They would have Ipad accessories, I believe.

Before, I start making real music on GarageBand, I need to get hooked up and learn how to use the software better.

It maybe possible, that I may finally get to make a full band demo after all. GarageBand is the shit.

Cool Video: Van Halen finally confirms world tour in 2012 but says nothing about a new album yet???

Van Halen finally confirmed their World Tour with David Lee Roth as singer in 2012, by posting this video in their youtube page. Even though VH, have been in the studio recording their new album, they have never confirmed a new album  yet. Look like the new  album will be coming after the tour.

Anyway, I’m excited that VH is back. I’ve been a longtime fan of VH. Again, if VH plays around the Albany area, I’m going. I never got to see VH live before and I’ve always wanted to, so hopefully they do come around here. I’ll keep an eye on their tour listing.

GarageBand is the ultimate music making machine, no wonder it’s so popular!!!

GarageBand for Ipad is so impressive. It’s so realistic and so simple to use. Most MIDI software out there are crap ’cause they are challenging and difficult, but GarageBand seems real easy.

In GarageBand, you can create realistic notes and chords however you want them to sound, and it sounds like an actual band playing. I may soon finally get some tunes with drums & bass, and other instruments backing them up.

I keep my songwriting very simple & basic. So it wouldn’t be that difficult for me to be a one man band. I will record my real guitar and vocals into Garage band but the bass & drums would be MIDI.

It’s going to take a while to figure out GarageBand but I’ll get the hang of it. I know there is a way to hook up your guitar & mic into the Ipad, you need some kind of special cables for them. I’ll research into it.

GarageBand have been so popular with musicians for years and I can now see why. It is pretty incredible music software. Better than ProTools I must say.

Ipad is awesome…such an amazing tool…

I’m glad I had a change of heart with these gadget things. At first, I wasn’t all for them at all, but the Ipad grew on me. I’m becoming addicted to the thing pretty quickly.

I downloaded & installed, the Ibooks app, the Itunes Movie Trailers apps (that way I can keep up to date with the new movie trailers better, that what this is for), GarageBand app and the Shadowgun game app. I also bought and downloaded the Tony Iommi book, “Iron Man” for Ibooks, which I will read after I finish reading a different book I’m reading right now.

I’m VERY impressed with GarageBand. I know that software was very popular for Macintosh, and now it’s available for Ipad. The instruments sounds so real on GarageBand. Plus, I am able to hook up my guitar into the Ipad, but I’ll need to buy a separate Guitar Connect Cable. I can use the Ipad to record and make music with, band back up. For a long time now, I’ve been trying to find good MIDI software to create band back up, and GarageBand is the way to go. I tried, “Band in a Box”, and “Music Creator 5”, but those programs are not that great. “GarageBand” is perfect.

I’m a newbie to this Ipad thing and it’s going to take me a while to get the hang of it. It’s a very handy and useful tool.

As for “This Day In Music” for the blog, I never got around to that today, sorry, I’ll get back to it tomorrow. Just wanted to enjoy the day for myself, obviously.

Kev

Fitness nutrition maybe tough on Christmas but…

…I’m gonna pig out and enjoy myself. Eat whatever I want and see, all day. It won’t hurt to have this once in a while.

The rest of the week though, I’m going to to get back to my strict nutrition and take it off at the gym.

Tonight, I’m having a lobster and other things. A lot of people like to have ham for Christmas dinner, but ham dinners are overrated. Lobster & sea food is the way to go.

Haven’t checked out my new Ipad yet. It’s the 1st Ipad, not the No. 2 that just came out, by the way. I’ll watch my Netflix stuff on my Ipad instead of the PS3 from now on, and I’m going to start buying books on it digitally too. I got to set everything up before I start to use it. I also wanted one so I can blog and facebook when I travel around. I’m late on the Apple gadgets but it’s good to get into it now.

Kev

Edit to add: Oh yeah, one last thing, as soon as I see “Girl with the Dragon Tattoo” and these new movies on DVD I still need to see, I’ll get right to work on the “Top 15 Best Films of 2011” list. The list should be coming later this week, so stay tuned all. My list may surprise some.

Happy Holidays, to all blog readers!!!

Merry Christmas to all blog readers.

To the longtime readers & supporters/fans, musicians as well, thanks for all the true support you gave me over the years, no matter what happened.

I got music plans for 2012, as I will be coming back with a new demo of originals. I think I’m gonna be keeping my Kev Brock name, ’cause obviously, I mostly well known with that name and people may have a hard time getting used to who I am if I released my stuff under my real birth name, so Kev Brock stays, I guess. I also have plans to get my Kev Brock name trademarked this year so I can have that name forever legally.

It was a good Christmas morning for me. Just got an Ipad as a gift this morning which is what I’m thrilled and excited to have. I’ve always wanted an Ipad for a long time and finally got one. It was quite a surprise, I didn’t think I would actually get it, ever. I also got a few movies on DVD (“Rise of the Planets of the Apes”, “Columbiana” and “Crazy, Stupid, Love”) and a few other little things.

Hope you’re all having a great Christmas this morning. The blog’s been kind of slow this weekend, spending time doing other things. Happy Holidays all!
