Brock has finally started to write songs again…

I’ve been writing riffs again and jotting down some lyric ideas, so hopefully I’ll finally have some new tunes to get a new studio demo album done.

I know, it’s been a while since I’ve written some new music. Been on a bit of a writers block lately but inspiration is starting to hit me again.

I may make the next demo CD a full band thing ’cause these songs I’ve been hearing in my head were meant to be played in a band. I won’t do the full band thing for live shows, but just a studio project only, maybe.

I refuse to perform live in the area, but I’ll still do studio recordings and still make new music all the time. I don’t know if the studio band project will happen right away ’cause I need to write some good rockin’ stuff for it to happen.

I love playing music and playing guitar, I’ll always be doing that. That’s pretty much my main passion than anything else.

Brock to put on live stream home concerts for the web? Just found a great website to do that…

Since I have made a vow to never play a live show in the local Capital District area ever again, I have found a way where I can still be able to perform live in front of an audience. Well, in front of a virtual audience that is.

Since youtube does not do live streaming yet, I found a website where you can stream live, this site here:

http://www.ustream.tv/

Very cool. Brock to schedule home acoustic live shows for the live internet? Cool idea, I think.

I’ll learn how to work that site out and give it a try. If I think that site is good enough for me to use on a regular basis, I’ll start a “Kev Brock Virtual Live Music Showcase” right at my own home. Maybe I’ll schedule a live music virtual show like once a month or something. I’ll schedule a live streaming internet show, that way I can have some time to get it promoted and get people interested in seeing it.

Sounds like a cool plan to me. I’ll work on it.

Thought: Brock to quit local music for good?

Actually, I’ll admit that the reason I haven’t been out to support the music scene lately (if there is a scene anyway), or playing my own shows in a long time is that I am actually thinking about giving it up.

I’ll never quit guitar playing, that I’ll always do for the rest of my life. Just not being any part of the local music scene. Sorry, but I have lost a lot of interest in it over the years. Local music is no fun anymore. Boring. Predictable. Too much negativity and hateful people out there. I can go on. They all call themselves “profesionals” and I don’t see profesionals out there at all.

It’s not the music scene on why I’m thinking about giving it up, it’s all about a change in my life. Concentrating on life is more important than music. Making your life better comes first before fun stuff. That’s what I’m mostly concentrating on.

I haven’t played a live gig in almost a year, and that’s a clear sign that I’m thinking about giving it up. Of course, I’ll always still write songs and put ’em online for all to hear, but performing live music around this area isn’t that thrilling as other local bands around here are making it out to be. The internet is a good tool to release your music and get yourself heard, so I’ll just leave it at that.

Cool Video: “True to You” new original song…

So I’m back to writing songs again. Time to write a new batch of songs again for the year 2009. I want to play different songs at my shows next time around.

Wrote a new original song titled “True to You”, and am quite of proud of it. I gave it a country rock feel. Lyrics coming in the video soon. This songs a short one, it’s not one of them 7-10 minute ones.

Enjoy.

I want to be respected for my music, not just for my internet personality…

In the Capital District, I know I am mostly known for my blogging and my internet personality, I really haven’t quite gotten my music out there yet. My goal has always been known to trying to get noticed as a musician in the Capital District area too. I know I have loyal fans that come to see my shows and I know some people out there even other local musicians say that I’m one of the best solo performers in the area.

I think the main problem on why I haven’t gotten noticed as a musician and singer/songwriter yet, is that I haven’t released an actual studio album on CD yet. You know, an actual album with CD cover art and a booklet, all that stuff. All the solo musicians and bands have made a CD, but the rest of you wonder why I haven’t put one out yet.

I’m actually thinking about making that happen. I’m thinking about wanting it to happen. But if it does happen, it probably won’t be a Kev Brock solo CD. It’ll probably be a full band electric guitar CD, songs that is full of hard rock n’ roll with kick ass riffin and jamming all the way through, a CD I’ve always wanted to make. I’ll probably have a band name too, and you guess it, I want to get my own rock n’ roll band going sometime down the road.

If I put out a CD, then I’ll have a better chance in getting that CD reviewed in local papers and it’ll help me become established more music wise. I’ll probably just form a three piece band, so I can do all the guitar work, lead and rhythym, all of it. Then play some full band shows in support of it.

I’m kind of gettin’ tired of the acoustic solo thing and want to try the full band thing to see how that goes. In 2009 after Christmas is over with, I plan to start searching for musicians to record with. I want to become part of the full band scene in the area and want to make it happen this time around.

Going instrumental???

I’ve been doing a lot of thinking lately. On my next demo disc, I have plans of making it mostly an instrumental disc. Not sure if this is my final decision on the next disc or not, but I’m thinking about it. A disc with mostly instrumentals with only a few songs with vocals. I’ve always enjoyed instrumental music whether it’s electric guitar or acoustic guitar. I’ve been working on stuff that doesn’t seem to fit with vocal melodies, that I think I’ll just leave them as instrumentals alone.

I want to show off my guitar skills. Show people that I can truly play. The power of ProTools which I have on my computer gives me the power to overdub as many guitar parts as I please. Play rhthym guitar and guitar solos over it.

I have written instrumentals on acoustic guitar before and I want to further it. Something I’ve always wanted to do. I’ll be playing songs in alternate tunings and playing unique chords. This is what I’m thinking what my next demo will be. More on this soon.

Thought: The hypocrisy and the egos of the local music scene…

You know what I find funny. I find it hilarious on how if you’re a musician who don’t play out much and the musicians that do play out on a regular basis in a profesional level will constantly slam you by saying stuff like “You have no right to discuss your opinions on local music, since your music is crap and you don’t play any shows”.

Like I said in an earlier blog about this, I hear that all the time and it’s nothing to new me. I just kind of ignore it all and just laugh at it like a man. When you say something like that, it makes you look like a hypocrite, you say something like that, because it makes you want to feel tough and you think you’re better than me, because you play in a full time band that plays a lot of shows.

What gives this area the right to have complete control of the local music scene? You have none. All of us musicians have our own complete control of our own music. You don’t control us. Us musicians control our own profesion. You have no right to tell other musicians what to do or tell other musicians what to say in the local music scene. It’s a free country here, we do what we want to do.

People can say whatever they want about the Brock. They can all say I suck and have no talent, blah blah blah or don’t deserve to be playing any shows. Nothing is gonna stop me from doing what I enjoy. Playing my guitar and rocking out at live shows. I ain’t gonna listen to anybody and keep doing what I love is music. I’m a music lover like everyone else.

People make fun of me now that I don’t play any shows. Hello, correction, I’ve been playing a lot of shows for the past couple of years, I played a little over 35 shows at almost every venue aorund the area. That’s quite a lot of work for an acoustic guy.

I’m not playing shows right now for my own reasons, not because anyone else “don’t want me playing” or they think “I suck”. I’m taking a break from playing live shows to write up some new songs and get a new demo album in the works. When I get some new songs out that I’m proud of playing out with, then I’ll start playing a bunch of shows again.

I do what every musician and bands do. Write songs, get ’em released, play a bunch of live shows to get ’em out there, and then take a little break. It’s what all musicians do. Just watch and see, when ever I get a new demo out, I’ll be back out on the local music scene playing shows on a regular basis again like I did last year.

Just keep doing what you’re doing, whatever makes you happy and don’t let anybody bring you down, I sure as hell don’t. The hypocrisy and the egos of this area continues to grow wild. Just because you’re a band manager, promoter, booking agent, or heck even a musician in some band, does not make you better than me or anyone else.

I will be back out in the scene full time again soon, just you wait. I’m just waiting for the right time. I’m actually thinking about going back out there this fall, not sure yet, I’d like to play P4th, Flavour Cafe or Slow Jed’s again (venues that I’ve played at before), maybe I’ll work something out with either of those venues, I miss performing in front of people.

On a side note, my vacation is this week. I’ll start packing up my clothes and things this Wed. and then my vacation day Aug. 21st this Thursday, I head on the plane in Albany airport. The first flight will land in Chicago, Ill which will be an hour flight, so I will be in Chicago for a while to wait for my next flight to San Diego which will be another 5 hour flight, so in all it’ll be a 6 hour plane ride to San Diego. Looking forward to it and getting psyched. The day after I come back from vacation, I’ll post a full report and pictures too. I haven’t been to the ocean in a long time and can’t wait to see the Pacific. It is going to be a great vacation and I’m in need of one pretty badily.

Cool Video: Me performing Megadeth’s “Sweating Bullets” cover acoustically…

Well well well, I never noticed this video been in youtube. Somebody else uploaded this in youtube without my knowledgement! How cool is that!

This seems to be a popular cover tune of mine. I plan to re-learn this song ’cause I haven’t played this tune in so long.

Now someone has the video that I don’t have anymore, I’ll put this video in my own account too so it can get more hits and views. I remember this Caffe Lena performance, it was a couple of years ago, it was a crowded and packed night as you can hear the loud crowd during the performance.

I know some out there has been wanting this video back online, and by popular demand, here it is, enjoy.
