Film Review: Harry Potter and the Deathly Hollows Part 2 ***spoilers***

Starring: Daniel Radcliffe, Emma Watson, Rupert Grint, Ralph Fiennes, Helena Bonham Carter

Directed by: David Yates

Last night, I finally went and saw the new Harry Potter flick, “The Deathly Hollows – part 2”, here is my review…

Plot/Synopsis: Leaving right off from part 1, Harry Potter, Hermione Granger and Ron Weasley continue their adventures on the hunt for the last of Voldermort’s horcruxes, which are the items that turned Voldermort immortal. Voldermort finds out about their mission and continues his obsession on wanting to kill Harry Potter.

I thought it was pretty good, but honestly, not the best of the Harry Potter franchise. I was most impressed with the action scenes and the special effects. The action scenes were a lot of fun to watch. They were pretty violent action scenes too.

The special effects were very impressive. Yes, all of the Harry Potter films had great special effects, but the special effects in this movie was the best. There is one scene where you have to watch out for, that will give you this blinding special effects. I don’t want to give out spoilers but this is just a hint. The special effects will open your eyes for sure.

Other things I liked about the film. I thought the Neville Longbottom scenes were the most impressive, in fact, that character was the most important plot point of the whole movie. I also thought Severus Snape was very well done. In this movie, we see a different side of Snape that we haven’t seen before in the earlier movies. This movie will reveal more stuff about Snape that we never knew about before. I also liked the final confrontation of Harry Potter and Voldermort at the end, their fight scene was good, but wish it could have been a little longer and more intense.

The things I didn’t like about the film was that the writing had some slight problems. It really didn’t follow the book. It changed things around the story and left some stuff out. Things they left out: Fred’s death, Harry & Luna in the common room, Snapes & Dumbledore’s memories were rushed and left out the most important stuff, they didn’t show the death of Bellatrix Lestrange in which the book Molly Weasley was the one who killed Bellatrix (I couldn’t believe they left that out), in the books Harry teams up with Draco Malfoy at the end and they really didn’t show much of that in the movie.

Harry Potter and “Deathly Hollows part 2” was pretty good, but nothing special. I just wish it could have been written better. If I was to pick which is the best movie of the whole series, I would have to say, “The Half Blood Prince” was the best film.

Score for “Harry Potter & the Deatlhy Hollows part 2” = ** (2 stars as in “okay”)

Cool Video: A look back at the earlier Harry Potter films…

With Harry Potter and the Deathly Hollows Part 2 coming out this weekend, Warner Bros. just released this video in youtube giving you a look back at the earlier 7 films. This is a great video Warner Bros. put together. I liked it.

I’m a huge Harry Potter fan, so I’m definitely looking forward to seeing “Deathly Hollows part 2” but will see it sometime next week, not this week.

Cool Photo: New Harry Potter and “The Deathly Hollows part 2” poster is out!

Isn’t that friggin badass? I love it! That is one of the best movie posters I’ve seen in a while! I would love to buy that poster and hang it up in here.

Speaking of “The Deathly Hollows”, I’ve finally finished reading the book. It was amazing, so this movie is going to be amazing as well. I will write more about the book later.

Harry Potter is great but the books are better than the movies, of course.

Film Review: Clash of the Titans

Starring: Sam Worthington, Gemma Arterton, Liam Neeson, Ralph Fiennes

Directed by: Louis Letterier

So I’ve just seen the “Clash of the Titans” remake earlier tonight. I saw the 2D version, didn’t see it in 3D. I didn’t buy anything, didn’t do any shopping, just saw a movie today, that was it.

On with my review:

Plot/Synopsis: The story has a similar plot idea from the original but it is slightly different. In this version, Persues is raised as a fisherman who is about to go to war that killed his family. Hades is the one that killed his family and Persues wants to kill him for revenge. Persues tries to get an army together to try and destroy the Kraken monster.

I will never forget that post I made about “War of the Gods” vs. “Clash of the Titans”, saying that “Clash of the Titans” remake should never be touched and “War of the Gods” look better (not the video game adaptation). I was right. I knew right from the start, that “Clash of the Titans” remake was going to suck…and it did. It sucked hard. It possibly the worst remake ever made. I’ve seen many remakes over the years, but I like most of them. “Clash of the Titans” was just pure shit. It was that bad.

The reasons? For starters, Sam Worthington is a terrible choice for a leading actor for Persues. Sam Worthington is a bad actor. I don’t like him too much. I would prefer Paul Walker, Christian Bale or Vin Diesel to play Persues over Sam Worthington. The film was a whole mess all around. Yes it did have action like the original. It did have family humor like the original. It had a mix of scary and dark scenes like the original. It even had a bit of romance like the original.

The few main things that upset me the most in the film were Medusa and the film having no, Bubo the Owl. Why Medusa? If you’ve seen the 1981 original film with Harry Hamlin like I’ve had, the original Medusa is supposed to be very scary looking. As a kid, when I used to watch the original so many times, I used to get scared by the Medusa in the original. That’s it, she’s supposed to be scary as HELL. I didn’t find the new Medusa in the remake, scary one bit. She was almost like a cartoon character. They totally ruined the Medusa scene in the remake.

About Bubo the Owl, if you’ve seen the original, that character was the most important part of the story. Bubo helped Persues along with his adventure. Bubo is that metal owl character you seen in the original. You guess that right, Bubo wasn’t in the remake. Which is probably one of the main reasons I hated the remake. No Bubo, No Clash of the Titans. End of story.

The Kraken was actually kind of cool looking in the remake though, but the scene wasn’t that long. The only good thing about the movie though, is Liam Neeson and Ralph Fiennes playing in the same scenes together. They stoled the show. The last movie Neeson and Fiennes starred together was Spielberg’s “Schindler’s List”. It was good to see them together again. My question is, why is this movie such a hit? So many people are wasting their $10 on a crapfest remake and I which I can get my $10 back.

Score for “Clash of the Titans” = * (1 star as in “poor”)

Thought: “Clash of the Titans” remake is looking like a remake of “300” so far…

Here is Sam Worthington as Persues in the “Clash of the Titans” remake…

Notice the similarities of the other Greek film, “300”, that starred Gerard Butler.

I know “300” is a popular movie, and a lot of people like it, sorry to say, but I didn’t like it too much. “300” felt like too much of a video game to me, and it looks like “Clash of the Titans” remake is heading to that same root.

I’ve been saying from day 1 that “Clash of the Titans” remake is a bad idea, and I still stand by it. The only reason I would go see it, is to just see Liam Neeson and Ralph Fiennes playing in the same movie together again, that would be the only good reason to see it.

Confirmed: Ralph Fiennes and Liam Neeson joins “Clash of the Titans” remake…

Actors Ralph Fiennes and Liam Neeson once teamed up for Steven Spielberg’s “Schindler’s List”, they are reuniting to star in the, “Clash of the Titans” remake. Liam is set to play Zues, and Ralph is set to play Hades, who are the rulers of the Underworld.

I think Liam will still do the movie. I don’t see him pulling out. If he were to pull out of the film, he would have done so a long time ago, but he hasn’t yet. So that’s a good sign that he may still do the film.
