Would I go see the movie, “Magic Mike”? I’ll check it out but it can wait for Netflix rental…

The internet has been going crazy over Steven Soderbergh’s new movie, “Magic Mike”, a movie about male stripping that stars Channing Tatum, and Matt McConaughey. I’m not seeing it in theater not because it’ll make me feel gay for going to see it. I’m not a big fan of Channing Tatum’s acting (I also think he’s overrated). Plus, Steven Soderbergh, hasn’t made a great movie since the film, “Traffic” in 2000, that was the last great movie he did. I did like the Oceans trilogy but they weren’t the best, just entertaining. I did like, “Haywire”, but it wasn’t the best, just entertaining.

It’s mostly women going crazy over, “Magic Mike”, which is expected, but I am noticing that straight guys have went out and saw it too. I believe the movie was made for both men and women. The movie is about learning how to party and learning how to pick up women, which is what a lot of men like, so guys can go see the movie for that. The women would go see it for the half naked muscle dudes. I wonder what made Soderbergh want to make a movie like this? I bet his wife begged him to do it.

“The Dark Knight: Rises” is finally coming out in a couple of weeks, so I’ll be going to see that one instead, of course.

Film Review: Haywire

Starring: Gina Carano, Channing Tatum, Ewan McGregor, Michael Douglas
Directed By: Steven Soderbergh

So here’s the first film of 2012, that I’ve just seen today. Before the film, I picked up a few video games, I picked a pre-owned copy “Elder Scrolls IV: Oblivion” and “Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim”. I haven’t started those two video games yet, I am going to wait a while ’cause there are still a few games, I need to play before them. On with my review of, “Haywire”.

Plot/synopsis: Beautiful freelance covert operative Mallory Kane is hired out by her handler to various global entities to perform jobs which governments can’t authorize and heads of state would rather not know about. After a mission to rescue a hostage in Barcelona, Mallory is quickly dispatched on another mission to Dublin. When the operation goes awry and Mallory finds she has been double crossed, she needs to use all of her skills, tricks and abilities to escape an international manhunt, make it back to the United States, protect her family, and exact revenge on those that have betrayed her.

Gina Carano, a sexy MMA Strikeforce fighter, has been getting a lot of popularity in the sport, that she gets a major leading role in a huge action film directed by Steven Soderbergh. Steven Soderbergh is the director of such movies as “Erin Brockovich”, the Oceans trilogy, “Traffic”, “Solaris”, “Contagion”, etc. Sodergh is a director who I’ve admired for a longtime. I’ve seen most of his movies.

This film, “Haywire”, is getting mixed reviews, but I liked this film quite a lot. It told a good plot, and the directing style was pretty unique like Soderbergh’s always is. There have been a lot of actresses starring the leading roles in action films over the years but none of them, really had the athleticism to be considered an action star. Gina Carano is an actual athlete who has it all. She has the sexy looks, a fit body, and she’s also a talented athlete. Gina was perfect for the role and she acted well in the movie too.

The fight scenes she did in this movie, makes you wanting more up ahead. She’ll make you cheer for her as if you’re watching an actual MMA fight which is what the film felt like. During the fight scenes, there was no music playing during the scenes, which is one reason they made it fun. They made her look like a tough badass chick you don’t want to mess with. She made it look like that a man wouldn’t even dare try to pick a fight with a woman, or she’ll kick your ass.

I was also impressed with the supporting cast. We could do without Channing Tatum ’cause I’m not a fan of his acting, but I did like Michael Douglas, Ewan McGregor, and Bill Paxton being part of the film who all delivered excellent performances.

I think this film is going to be a trilogy ’cause there is more to the story that needs to be told. The ending left open for another movie, of course. I thought it was a fun action flick. My only disappointment was that we need a naked Gina in these films, or show more skin at least. There was a little cleavage here and there, but they only showed them a quick few seconds. If Steven’s goal with these movies is to be sexy as hell, he needs to make her even more sexier for the sequel.

Score for “Haywire” = *** (3 stars as in “Good”)

Cool Video: First trailer for “Haywire” starring Gina Carano online now…

The Steven Soderbergh directed action movie, “Haywire”, which stars Strikeforce fighter, Gina Carano is now online. The movie looks great. I’m a big fan of Steven Soderbergh movies. He was the one who did the Oceans trilogy, “Traffic”, and other films. “Haywire” looks to be an action packed ride. I like female action hero’s, and we need more of them.

I’m sure Strikeforce events on Showtime, will be promoting this movie pretty heavily.

Report: Steven Soderbergh speaks out on Gina Carano starring in “Knockout”…

Steven Soderbergh speaks to MTV News about more details on Gina Carano starring in the action flick, “Knockout” that he will soon be directing. He explained the reason why he has chosen her as the leading role. Soderbergh plans to make, the “Knockout” movie, an in-your-face, Jason Bourne styled action movie.

Instead he wanted a female to be the action hero. To make it more realistic, he wanted a female fighter that had the fighting skills. He explains he is a fan of MMA and turns out that he is a huge fan of Gina Carano in the sport. He’s been watching her in MMA for a long while and figure she would be perfect for this role.

Steven also explains that Gina will be involved in a few car chases in “Knockout”, but they won’t be that silly fake CGI stuff you see in other movies. The car chases will be more realistic like the car chases you see in real life.

MTV News reports:

http://moviesblog.mtv.com/2009/10/08/steven-soderbergh-plans-to-create-the-female-jason-bourne-in-knockout/

Sounds way cool. Interesting. This could be a very promising movie and a great action flick if made right. I’m sure it will be great. Gina Carano in car chases and getting into action scenes with her own stunts? Hell yeah. Bring it on.

Since Steven said he’s going to have a cast around her with actors that are more well known so she can be comfortable, Steven would probably go for actors he already worked with in the past. Could Steven get George Clooney? Yes. What about Benicio Del Torro? Yes. He could even get Matt Damon to pair up with her in this flick.

Report: It’s Steven Soderbergh vs. Gina Carano in “Knockout”…

The hot and sexy MMA fighter, Gina Carano, is set to play the leading role in Steven Soderbergh’s “Knockout”, which will be a spy thriller.

If you don’t know who Steven Soderberg is, he’s the director of such movies like the “Oceans Eleven” trilogy, and “Traffic”.

Hopefully this  movie is R rated, and Gina will agree to doing nude scenes, baring her breasts and all. I doubt it but it be kind of cool. She’s always been strict about doing nudity but maybe she’ll think differently doing it for film, who knows. All we can do is cross our fingers.
