I don’t think the Oscar for “Best Picture” is gonna go to “Mad Max: Fury Road” after all…

I’m actually pretty happy with the winner results of last night’s “Golden Globes”. It seems that the awards went with the right people. I’m so glad “Mad Max: Fury Road” didn’t get the big win for “Best Motion Picture – Drama” last night. Instead that winner went to “The Revenant”. I have not seen “The Revenant” yet but will when it’s available for rental.

Here are the results of last night’s Golden Globes:

Winners & Nominees

I hate award shows but I watch the Globes and the Oscars to see what movies and stuff are gonna win awards since I’m a huge movie buff and all.

So it’s looking like that “Mad Max: Fury Road” isn’t gonna win Best Picture at all at the Oscars. It’s looking like either “The Revenant” or “The Martian” will get the Best Picture win at the Oscars, I’ll bet your money on it. It’s most likely that “The Revenant” is going to win big.

Anyway, I’m glad Sly won for “Creed” and glad that Matt Damon won for “The Martian” ’cause they were both great performances. Matt is probably gonna get another Oscar too for that “Martian” role. I saw “The Martian” in theater myself so I knew that was a great performance. Matt Damon already is an Oscar winner for his screenplay of the film “Good Will Hunting”, he’ll get another Oscar nod for “The Martian” for sure.

I don’t care for award shows anymore but I just want to see Sly get his recognition for his acting talent which he totally deserves finally. I’m really am happy and proud for Sly as I’m sure the rest of his fans are too.

Will we ever get a human mission to Mars? I’m sure we will but not right away…

After reading the book and seeing the movie to “The Martian”, will we ever get a man mission to Mars? I’m sure we will but it won’t be right away. It’ll take many more years to figure it out, though.

For one, Mars is way too far from Earth. They would need a vehicle that is capable of travelling to Mars safely. It could be a very dangerous trip to get there. They would need to find a way to protect themselves from all that radiation and stuff like that. Mars is like 54.6 million kilometers from Earth which is pretty damn far. They did send probes over there but it can take between 200 to 300 days to get it over there.

A manned mission to Mars will be very difficult. It’ll be difficult to leave Earth to travel to Mars and it’ll be difficult for Astronauts to survive. Meaning needing lots of fuel, supplies, food, etc.

When they actually get to Mars, they would need to build a good enough protective suit where it can be safe to walk around on Mars ’cause you never know how dangerous it is. You can’t just put on any random astronaut suit and walk around Mars ’cause it could kill you. You’ll have to know what the air is gonna be like and everything else. Plus there’s all kinds of dust storms on the planet as well. You don’t know how safe it is to walk around on the ground on Mars.

Mars is an extremely cold planet so they would need an astronaut suit that is warm enough to walk around on which the technology could be difficult and challenging.

If they were to do a manned mission to Mars, they would need to do a lot of testing so I would think they would start sending animals over there first.

Travelling to Mars, landing on Mars and leaving Mars would all be pretty risky so it’s gonna take years of investigation. Sending all those probes over there is just the beginning of it. NASA was successful at travelling to the Moon ’cause it was easier and closer.

We’ll probably get a real life Mark Watney sometime in the future but not at this time.

Film Review: The Martian…

Starring: Matt Damon, Jeff Daniels, Sean Bean, Jessica Chastain, Kristen Wiig, Kate Mara

Directed by: Ridley Scott

So I went and saw the movie, “The Martian” today and here is my review:

Plot/Synopsis: During a manned mission to Mars, Astronaut Mark Watney is presumed dead after a fierce storm and left behind by his crew. But Watney has survived and finds himself stranded and alone on the hostile planet. With only meager supplies, he must draw upon his ingenuity, wit and spirit to subsist and find a way to signal to Earth that he is alive.

I read the book before I saw the movie. While the movie was pretty faithful to the book and followed along pretty well; however, it was of course a little different. The movie is always different from the book so it’s nothing new anyways.

I thought the movie was really good but did I think it was the best movie of the year, though? No, definitely not. The movie was enjoyable and entertaining as hell, though. I thought it was Matt Damon’s best role and he should get Oscar nominated for this one for sure. Of course, the movie was beautifully filmed ’cause Ridley Scott is always the master at visuals and cinematography.

I thought the movie was well-written and well-acted by the cast; however, my only disappointment was that it shouldn’t have been rated PG-13. It should have been R rated ’cause the book was full of swearing. In the movie version, they pretty much took out most of the swearing. Part of what made the book entertaining is all the swearing. There is this character named Annie Montrose who Kristen Wiig plays. Her character says the word “fuck” a lot in the book but in the movie version, she hasn’t said one swear word. In the book, Annie Montrose was the only character who swore a lot other than Mark Watney. That’s my only negative about the movie was that Annie didn’t swear ’cause that’s part of what made her character work in the book.

I didn’t know Jeff Daniels could play in a serious role like that ’cause he’s mostly well-known for playing in goofy comedies like “Dumb and Dumber”. It was different seeing Jeff in a role like that for sure.

Other than that, it was a real good movie, I enjoyed it for the most part… just wished they kept all the swearing. It’s definitely not the best film of the year, though, it’s too early to decide that yet ’cause keep in mind, y’all, we still have “The Force Awakens” coming.

Score for “The Martian”… *** 3 stars as in “good”.
