RIP: Anton Yelchin 1989 – 2016

2016 just took down another one. While Anton Yelchin was mostly famous for playing the role of the new Chekov for the “Star Trek” reboot series, Anton had many other memorable roles. Before the “Star Trek” series, I have seen a few other movies he was in. I remember seeing him in “Hearts in Atlantis”, “The Beaver” w/ Mel Gibson, “Terminator: Salvation” and “The Fright Night” remake.

I have never seen “Alpha Dog” yet but want to and will check it out pretty soon. Anton has been a huge part of Hollywood for most of his life. He’s been acting in films ever since he was a child.

It’s a shame what happened to him ’cause he was a talented kid and he was too young to go. The sudden death of Anton Yelchin made me realize that life is pretty fragile so make sure every day of your life counts and enjoy every minute of your life no matter what ’cause you never know.

Anton Yelchin was 27 years old.

RIP: Nick Menza 1964 – 2016

The music world just lost another legend. Nick Menza, who is most famous as the drummer for Megadeth during the Marty Friedman era. Nick passed away after collapsing on stage while performing with his current band, OHM.

I maybe a huge fan of Megadeth and all but I’ve always believed that the Mustaine, Ellefson, Friedman and Menza lineup will always be the true Megadeth. The Marty Friedman/Nick Menza era of Megadeth will always be the best. I think the Megadeth albums: “Rust In Peace”, “Countdown To Extinction” and “Youthanasia” will always be the best Megadeth albums. Nick Menza was a pretty sick drummer and he was an important part of Megadeth’s sound.

RIP Nick.

RIP: Prince Rogers Nelson aka Prince 1958 – 2016

I wasn’t a very big fan of Prince over the years of my life but of course, I’ve heard most of his well-known hits like most people and I’ve also remembered seeing the movie, “Purple Rain” in which he starred the leading role in.

I just never bought any of his albums, though but I respected his legacy and respected what he did to the industry. I just wasn’t a big fan of his songwriting ’cause his music wasn’t my cup of tea but I do think he is a phenomenal guitar player, though. That can’t be denied.

Today’s been weird. Two celebrity deaths announced in one day… Chyna and now Prince.

RIP Prince and condolences go out to his family, friends and fans.

RIP: Joanie Laurer aka Chyna 1970 – 2016

Kind of devastated this morning to wake up to hear the news that Chyna suddenly passed away. Love her or hate her all you want to, she accomplished a lot in the wrestling business. She was a founding member of the legendary wrestling group, D-Generation X. She was also a manager for other wrestlers such as Triple H, Billy Gun, Eddie Guerrero, Chris Jericho and maybe others. She was also a major part of another wrestling group started by the McMahon family called, The Corporation. Chyna has always been an important part of the Attitude Era in WWE. She was also a major part of the women’s division in wrestling. She’s a 2 time Intercontinental Champion and a 1 time Women’s Champion. She left WWE in 2001 and moved to Japan so she can focus on her wrestling career at New Japan Wrestling. She also made some adult porn movies and posed for Playboy 2 times.

Over the years, Chyna stayed in Japan and then she retired from wrestling so she can teach English to young Japanese students. Just recently, she returned to the United States and stayed in California so she can make appearances at wrestling events for her fans. Her fans campaigned for her to be included into the WWE Hall of Fame.

I’m kind of heartbroken over this news ’cause I’m such a huge Chyna fan. Always has been. I’ve looked up to her for years. I’ve watched her in WWE. Saw everything she did in wrestling. I remember buying both of her Playboys she did. I saw her exercise video she did and admittedly, I saw her porn she did with Sean Waltman aka X-Pac. That was the only porn I saw of hers, though.

Now that she’s gone, hopefully the WWE will do the right thing and put her in the Hall of Fame for the next Wrestlemania ’cause she totally deserves it. RIP Chyna and thank you for all you did. Yes, she may have had her problems over the years in her life but hey, we’re all human and we all have our problems too.

RIP: Keith Emerson 1944 – 2016

The music world just lost another legend and that is Keith Emerson who is most famous for being the keyboardist for progressive rock band: Emerson, Lake and Palmer. This one kind of bummed me ’cause “Brain Salad Surgery” is one of my favorite records of all time. I used to play the vinyl of that album to death when I was young ’cause I was fascinated with the keyboard playing of Keith Emerson. It was Emerson’s keyboard playing that made you want to listen to Emerson, Lake and Palmer. I’ve only listened to one album by them which was “Brain, Salad Surgery” and that reminds me that I was meaning to buy my own copy from Itunes soon. “Brain Salad Surgery” was a great album. I’m actually listening to that album right now as I type this and I almost forgot how amazing that album really was. There’s some pretty genius keyboard playing on it for sure.

RIP Keith and thanks…

RIP: Glenn Frey 1948 – 2016

I was never a big fan of the Eagles but their legacy always had my respect. Of course, I know some of their hit songs like everyone else that they’re most famous for like the tracks below. What a crazy start of the year… Scott Weiland, Lemmy, Bowie and now Glenn Frey. There’s no doubt that Frey was always pretty important in the music business.

RIP Glenn and thanks. Glenn Frey was 67 years old.

A UK actor by the name of Alan Rickman has just passed away. He is most famous as the role of Severus Snape in the “Harry Potter” movie series and he was the main villain, Hans Gruber, in the first “Die Hard” movie. Alan also had roles in “Robin Hood: Prince of Thieves”, “Galaxy Quest”, and “Sweeney Todd”. He also played Hilly Cristal in the “CBGB” movie which I just saw on Netflix not too long ago.

He was a talented actor and a sad loss in Hollywood. Alan Rickman was 69.

RIP: David Bowie 1947 – 2016

One of my heroes and inspirations in my music life is now gone. I’ve listened to Bowie’s music throughout my life. He was a huge influence on my own music as you can probably tell. I’ve just recently listened through all of his albums on Apple Music streaming which I am proud of. David’s real name is David Jones but he had to change his last name so he could avoid confusion with the other David Jones who sings for The Monkees.

Bowie was known for making a lot of hit songs that you hear on FM radio everyday with classic songs such as: Space Oddity, Heroes, Golden Years, Lets Dance, Suffragette City, Queen Bitch, Ziggy Stardust, Changes, and many other smash hits. While he made tons of great hits… he was more than just a hit maker. He was a songwriter and musician. He was also more than just rock n’ roll even though he was made famous for the glam rock style back in the 70’s. He was an eclectic musician who performed all genres of music. You name it. Bowie did it whether it’ll be rock n’ roll, pop, techno, etc. The man did it all.

Bowie was also more than just a music artist. He was also a visionary artist and was big into fashion. The man was also a movie star as he had plenty of movie roles over the years. He starred in some movie roles as the leading star but in a lot of his films were mostly co-starring roles and cameos. The movie that made him famous in the movie business was obviously Jim Henson’s “Labrynth” in which he played the Goblin King. He also had a big role in Christopher Nolan’s film, “The Prestige”. Don’t forget, he also had a small role in Ben Stiller’s comedy, “Zoolander”.

Bowie released a new album called, “Blackstar” on his birthday and passed two days later. After doing a little reading, Bowie began work on “Blackstar” after completing “The Next Day”. Why was Bowie in a hurry to get another new album out this fast? Was that a sign that he knew that he was gonna go soon and he wanted to put out a new record as quickly as possible? Probably. A lot of people are shocked to hear Bowie’s passing but if you pay attention on his new album “Blackstar” and listen to some of the lyrics, he’s giving you signs that something is about to happen to him and it isn’t gonna be good. Watch the videos for “Blackstar” and “Lazarus”. What do you think “Blackstar” means? Does that have something to do with death? He’s giving you clues. That could explain those mysterious symbols under the blackstar and why he has a white blindfold with black stars as his eyes. Giving you signs that he’s about to go soon. Just his way of telling his fans goodbye. You should have seen his death coming ’cause I believe that’s what his new album was about.

Lyrics for “Lazarus”…

Look up here, I’m in heaven I’ve got scars that can’t be seen
I’ve got drama, can’t be stolen
Everybody knows me now

Look up here, man, I’m in danger
I’ve got nothing left to lose
I’m so high it makes my brain whirl
Dropped my cell phone down below
Ain’t that just like me?

By the time I got to New York
I was living like a king
Then I used up all my money
I was looking for your ass
This way or no way
You know, I’ll be free
Just like that bluebird
Now ain’t that just like me?
Oh I’ll be free
Just like that bluebird
Oh I’ll be free
Ain’t that just like me?

Now that you figured out why he never went back to performing again ’cause his body and his health couldn’t take the stage anymore. Talk about his health was nothing new ’cause the press talked about it for a while but never went into details. I never thought it was cancer though.

I don’t think “Blackstar” will be his final album, though. I’m sure Bowie has plenty of unreleased material in the vault so we will indeed see more Bowie music in the future.

RIP Bowie and thank you for the great music over the years. Bowie was one of the main reasons I got into songwriting and wanted to write songs on my own. Bowie was 69 years old.

RIP: Lemmy Kilmister 1945 – 2015

I’ve respected the hell out of Lemmy Kilmister. Why? Simply because the fact that he loved what he did musically. He has played with Motorhead for over 30 years. They have a total of 23 studio albums and they’ve toured a lot more than making records. The reason is they were more of a live band which is what they were pretty much. Now that Lemmy is gone, I don’t think Motorhead will continue on without him ’cause Lemmy is Motorhead.

Lemmy was one of the hardest working musicians ever. He never stopped what he did. Always playing shows and always touring heavily. Even if he wasn’t in good health, he would perform the shows anyways. It showed that he had a real passion for music and it wasn’t about the fame & money at all for him. I love Motorhead. They’ve always been one of my favorite bands. Thanks to Apple Music streaming, I got to listen to most of their records.

When not playing music, Lemmy had a huge collection of WWII and Nazi memorabilia which he had a huge passion of. This may seem pretty weird but Lemmy was also a big video gamer. He also loved to go to casinos and play those slot machines during his spare time.

Lemmy died of some form of aggressive cancer. He was diagnosed with it 2 days before his death… I would say he may have gotten it after years of heavy smoking and drinking over the years probably. Years of heavy smoking would do that to you… I’m so glad I don’t smoke at all.

Thanks for the badass music over the years, Lemmy.

Lemmy Kilmister was 70 years old.
