RIP: Vic Chesnutt 1964 -2009

Now you can add folk rock singer/songwriter, Vic Chesnutt, to the LONG list of dead celebrities of 2009. Vic was a singer/songwriter who lived in Athens, Georgia. He was paralyzed at 18 from a car accident that put him on a wheelchair. Even if on a wheelchair, he was still able to sing and play guitar. He died in a coma after a suicide attempt. Chesnutt has released a total 15 albums in his discography, and R.EM.’s Michael Stipe produced his first two albums. It was Michael Stipe that discovered him, got him a record deal and made him famous. Vic Chesnutt was 45 years old.

James Brown, the Godfather of Soul, also died on Christmas Day.

The band R.E.M. did a tribute and homage for Vic Chesnutt on their official website:

RIP: Brittany Murphy 1977 – 2009

I was never really a big fan of her acting, but she deserves my respect. Actress, Brittany Murphy died today, due to cardiac arrest according to TMZ. She’s starred in a number of movies and TV shows over the years of her career.

Of course, the film that made her famous and well known, is “Clueless”. She’s also starred in other well known movies such as “Don’t Say a Word”, “Girl, Interupted”, “Sin City”, “Riding In Cars with Boys”, “8 Mile”, and more.

Recently, she was signed for a small role in the upcoming Sylvester Stallone action flick, “The Expendables”, but due to Sly writing her out in a script re-write, her role was excluded of the film.

She was also known as a supermodel actress which she appeared in pictorials for many men’s magazines such as Maxim, FHM, etc. She’s usually very high in almost all top women’s lists.

News broke first on TMZ where she died at Cedars-Sinai Medical Center, a hospital in Los Angeles. She was 32 years old. So young, taken so soon. So sad, since this is just before the Holidays.

2009 has been a sad year for celebrity losses.

RIP: Patrick Swayze 1952 – 2009

Just coming home from work and finding out that one of my favorite actors that I’ve admired for years couldn’t survive the pancreatic cancer. Yes, I was a longtime fan of this guy’s acting for years. Some of my favorite movies he has starred in were “Roadhouse”, “Point Break” and “Ghost”. He also had a great role in the movie, “The Outsiders”. “Dirty Dancing” was good, but it was never really my favorite film, I liked his other films the most.

This is an extremely HUGE loss in the movie industry since the death of Heath Ledger. Patrick Swayze was an important actor in Hollywood. It was too soon to lose him and we weren’t ready to lose him yet.

Patrick was such a great guy. There was never anything bad said about him over the years, a talented actor and he seemed very down to earth.

RIP Patrick, another legend gone this year.
