Greg Allman wants his biopic film, “Midnight Rider” to not go forward…

Everybody knows about the Greg Allman biopic that was supposedly to be in the works titled, “Midnight Rider” but Sarah Jones who was one of the film crew (pictured above) was killed by getting hit by a train while filming. She was just young, 27. William Hurt who was supposed to play Greg in the film pulled out ’cause he did it out of respect for Sarah. Now Greg Allman himself wrote a small letter to the director of the movie urging him NOT to go forward with the movie. Greg didn’t explain why he wanted him to stop making the movie but he’s probably doing it out of respect for Sarah.

Maybe it’s a good idea for the film to not go forward??? Out of respect for Sarah’s family and friends. Shame what happened and it’s tragic for sure. RIP to Sarah.

The Allman Brothers not splitting up due to Derek Trucks and Warren Haynes departure…

Earlier this year the two longtime guitarists for the Allman Brothers Band, Derek Trucks and Warren Haynes (pictured above) have both announced that they are leaving the band for good. This sparked rumors that the band maybe be breaking up. Greg Allman just squashed the breakup rumors and wants you to be sure that they are continuing on. Greg says he is still replacing Derek.

See the article here:

Gregg Allman: Allman Brothers Are Not Breaking Up, Derek Trucks To Be Replaced

I can understand why people would think the band will be breaking up since it will no longer seem like it’s the Allman Brothers without Derek and Warren but people don’t stay in bands forever. Musicians have to move on. The Allman Brothers have to move on too.

I just read Greg’s memoir, “My Cross To Bear” and he made it pretty clear that he’s going to keep the Allman Brothers going until he’s dead.

It maybe sad and disappointing that two of their guitarists are leaving but make no mistake about it… I’m sure Greg will find great replacements. He has dealt with too many members of the Allman Brothers over the years. They all come and go so I’m sure he’s used to replacing them by now.

It is actually kind of cool that Derek and Warren are moving on. Derek could go on with his wife’s project, The Tedeschi Trucks Band full time and Warren can go on with his other project, Govn’t Mule full time. I think that’s what they’re planning to do.

Derek and Warren have no personal grudges with Greg or any members of the Allman’s, their split is amicable.

This could be a good time to hopefully get Dickey Betts back in the band, though. I don’t know. Dickey and Greg don’t get along with each other and I don’t know if they still hate each other or not. Dickey was never fired from the band, although they kicked him out. They couldn’t fire Dickey ’cause he was one of the main founders of the band. Greg said in his memoir that he’ll let Dickey back in the band if he’ll straighten up his attitude and sober himself up (Dickey was a drunk and short-tempered). I doubt Dickey will ever be back in the band but ya never know. Never say never for now. Maybe Greg and Dickey will bury the hatchet someday.

I can’t believe that I’ve been getting into the Allman Brothers pretty heavily. They are really amazing… of course, back in the days when Duane was alive… that was when the Allman’s were at their best. Derek and Warren are sick guitarists too, though. I’ve been reading a lot about them lately and bought 7 of their albums from Itunes. I’m trying to collect as much of their music as possible. I pretty much want all of it.

Greg Allman is quite a guy. I’m looking forward to seeing his biopic film that Hollywood is currently planning too.

The Allman Brothers…

Because of that book pictured above, “One Way Out” by Alan Paul, I have gotten turned on to the Allman Brothers music. I mean… REALLY TURNED ON. Because of that book, I fucking love the Allman Brothers now. Before I read that book, I was never much of an Allman Brothers fan. I mean… don’t get me wrong… I’ve heard a lot of their hits on the radio over the years but I’ve never bought their records.

This book above is recommended reading for any music lover or if you’re a fan of the Allman Brothers yourself. It gives a detailed look on the history of the Allmans. It gives you everything. From their formation to where they are now. Duane Allman was an important member to them ’cause he was the one who started the band but sadly his career with them didn’t last too long due to his death when they just released the “Fillmore East” live album… that was at the start of their fame too.

The book doesn’t just try to make the band look good like any typical band biography. This book even talks about the negative stuff and all the setbacks the Allman Brothers went through over the years. They went through heated feuds with the members most notably the heated feud between Greg Allman and Dicky Betts. Dicky is no longer with the Allman Bros. ’cause they hate each other.

It was an interesting history of a legendary band. Thanks to this book, I purchased 7 albums from the Allman Brothers: “Self titled debut”, “Eat A Peach”, “At The Fillmore East”, “Brothers and Sisters”, “IdleWind South” and “Where It All Begins”. I’ve become obsessed with their music as you can see. I’m gonna collect their entire discography, I think. I’m beginning to think that the Allman Brothers are my second favorite band right behind Led Zeppelin now. I can’t stop listening to the Allman Brothers. One thing though, this band have been unfairly been labeled as Southern Rock and I don’t they’re Southern Rock at all. The Allman Brothers to me is a blues/jazz band with a crossover of rock n’ roll. They throw in some country music sometimes too. They’re mostly a blues/jazz band, though.

I have total respect for Gregg Allman and Duane is now one of my favorite guitarists of all time. The other guitarists who played in the band are great too like Dicky Betts, Derek Trucks and others. Dicky Betts wrote most of the material of the Allmans over the years. Warren Haynes and Derek Trucks are pretty much the new leaders of the Allmans now. I don’t think Dicky will ever reunite with the band but ya never know. Never say never. Dicky was an important member of the band too ’cause he wrote most of the band’s important songs.

I fuckin’ love the Allmans. I’m dying to get my chance to see them live now so if they ever play a concert here again someday, I’ll make sure I’ll go. That book is recommended reading. After reading that book, makes me want to read Greg Allman’s memoir, “My Cross To Bear” which I will read soon. They have a pretty interesting history.

I know the Allman’s recently played a series of shows at the Beacon in NYC but Greg couldn’t play one of them ’cause he was suffering bronchitis. The Allman Brothers rock and can’t get enough of their music. I want more.
