Welp… looks like Phil Collins has joined the “retired” and “comeback” bandwagon like most bands & artists has been doing these days. Too many bands & artists are doing that these days… claiming that they’re done and then they make a huge comeback. Kiss has done it. Phish has done it. Garth Brooks has done it. David Bowie has done it. This list can go on all day.
I was never a big Phil Collins fan anyway ’cause I always thought he was overrated. His music is not my cup of tea. Although, I do believe that “Sussudio” is one of his only good songs. When he goes back on tour full time, I’m pretty sure he’ll perform all of his greatest hits, Genesis songs along with his new material.
Since Phil took a long break from the industry, he’s gonna have to rebuild his fan base again which shouldn’t be a problem for him at all. I’m sure people still love him after all these years and I’m sure he’ll make a bunch of new fans as well.
I’ve been reading a lot about Led Zeppelin lately through books and stuff and I’ve been reading about how Robert and Jimmy didn’t like their 1985 reunion with Phil Collins. They were saying that this performance was really bad. Led Zep fans seem to agree that this performance was their worst.
I decided to go to youtube and give it a listen myself. Technically, this isn’t a bad performance at all. Sure, the musicians on stage weren’t the best. The two drummers were way off, Jimmy may have sounded out of tune a bit and Robert’s singing weren’t the best but hey… keep in mind that playing on stage is not always gonna be about perfection, ya know?
When you play in a band, keep in mind that you can’t expect every performance to be so great. Some nights you’re gonna be great and some nights you’re gonna be bad on stage. That’s how it is.
I thought they sounded pretty good, in my opinion. Could have been better but they were okay. Yeah, this performance was unrehearsed and rushed but that’s the beauty of live performing, ya know? You never know what to expect. These guys shouldn’t have been insecure with themselves in this performance and sometimes they can be their own worst critic.
If you get up on stage and play with a bunch of musicians you never played with before and haven’t rehearsed and if you sucked, who cares, ya know? That’s the beauty of music. It was never about perfection. So I think Led Zep and the fans really need to relax about this performance. It wasn’t all that bad and you still have to give them props for the effort in trying. Even though they weren’t at their best, they still pumped up the audience anyways.
When you play live the last thing you wanna do is worry about if you’re gonna be good or bad. Just get up and play. That’s it.
Whenever I play a show myself, I never worry about whether I’m gonna be good or bad. I just get up on stage to see what happens. If I was good, great. If I sucked, oh well, not the end of the world. You can never tell whether you’re gonna be good or bad. Just get up there and do your thing. Playing live is not about how good or bad you are, it’s about the enjoyment of music and loving it.
Ever since Phil Collins announced his retirement from music for good, the media and fans have speculated all kinds of nasty rumors on why he is quitting. Rumors like he is having health problems, hearing loss, etc. He also shoots down rumors that he is not quitting music because of bad press, and shoots down the Alamo rumors.
The real reason, he wants to spend time with his kids and family. Read Phil’s message, here.
Well, there you have it. Phil is perfectly fine, he doesn’t have health problems or hearing loss, he just wants to spend time with his family.
I think he’s full of crock though, I think he’ll be back. Maybe not this soon, but you know he’s lying.
Although Phil Collins isn’t able to drum anymore, there might be a possibility that Phil Collins and original frontman of Genesis, Peter Gabriel, might reunite at the Rock Hall of Fame, if the band gets inducted.
The band is already preparing for the nomination voting by releasing box sets of live material. Phil announced he has back problems and claims he isn’t able to drum anymore, so he was forced to give it up, but who knows, maybe he will drum at the Hall of Fame if he still has it?
Phil Collins a rock legend exclusively revealed to Times Online that he is done and retiring from music for good. Phil Collins ended his career on a high positive note by reforming Genesis last year in 2007 and doing a full tour with the band. In this article he announced he is done with music. He is done with touring and done making albums that means both his solo career and Genesis or any musical project. He’s currently living in Switzerland where he has a family and wants to spend more time with them. While he is giving up music, he plans on still writing because he doesn’t know how to stop and writing is one of the things he loves.
To be honest, I don’t really care that he’s retiring. I don’t really care for his music. He has a few good songs I like with Genesis and a few good songs with his solo stuff, but I’m not much of a fan.
Expect this news to soon be all over entertainment media later tonight or tomorrow.
I was just playing “Grand Theft Auto: Vice City” stories and I’m at the very end of the game, I have 5 more missions left of it. Phil Collins is an animated character in the videogame and I was thinking if the voice overs of Phil Collins was really done by him.
So I went googling some research information to see if it was done by him.
To my surprise, Phil Collins the man himself is the one doing the voice over playing himself in “Grand Theft Auto: Vice City Stories” videogame.
Here’s an old news story about it before the game even came out back in 2006, it was first released for the Playstation 2, I believe.
It is confirmed that Phil Collins is the first celebrity to appear in a videogame to play himself. In “GTA: Vice City Stories”, you have to save Phil’s life from getting killed by the mob, it happens in the missions “In the Air Tonight” part 1 and 2 in the videogame.
It is a great videogame. I’m also looking forward to playing “Grand Theft Auto IV” when it comes out to the PS3 on April 28th.
