Report: George Lucas ditches Mutt Williams for “Indy 5″…

Well, ever since “Indiana Jones and the Kingdom of the Crystal Skull” came out in theaters and became a box office smash, Lucas and Spielberg are already planning another Indy film. And thank god for this, you won’t be seeing Shia Labeouf in Indy 5, because it seems that Lucas did not like the character. In the next Indy movie, they want Indy to search for something. Lucas wants Indy to go on the next adventure alone without Mutt or Marion.

MTV Movies Blog reports:

While I did love Indy and the Crystal Skull very much, I kind of found Mutt Williams annoying. Frank Darabont’s version of this movie didn’t even have the character in it at all. Spielberg and Lucas have been loving this Mutt Williams character too much that they seem to quickly change their mind.

If “Indy 5” does get the greenlight by Paramount, lets hope they do a different story on the next one. Make the next one not be a sci fi the next time. Because “Indy 4” had a lot of mixed feelings by Indy fans about the sci fi stuff. I personally loved the sci fi being mixed into Indy but most people didn’t.

We need an Indy film that “everybody” can enjoy.

  1. I’ll take any Indy film as long as Harrison Ford is in role. He can pull a Sean Connery with the latter part of his career, meaning always being a pleasure to see him in films. Joe Pesci has this effect too, but he disappeared for a while; I’m hoping Love Ranch will revive his movie passion. I am really disappointed in the so-called “Indy fans” that didn’t enjoy the Crystal Skull. If you remember, many people thrashed the Temple of Doom too when that first came out, and now it is a classic. I am going to go play Lego Indiana Jones now to relive all the glory on my Wii.

  3. KOtCS was a decent movie with a couple of over the top situations that all the other movies had. People who hate this movie are the people who loved Indiana when they were openminded impressionable kids and after growing up forgot that these movies are homages to the over the top B level serials back in the 30’s and 40’s.

Mutt was harmless but I’m glad he won’t be taking over the franchise and I’m even happier that Lucas said a Mutt movie would be titled “Mutt Williams and the (insert macguffin here)”. Indiana Jones is Harrison Ford and I’m glad George agrees now after he got shouted down by the fans and changed his mind on his horrendous idea of a Mutt driven Indy movie.

  5. Shia was amazing as Mutt. Why wouldn’t they bring him back? I bet Mr. Lucas will change his mind. He’s not an idiot.
