Check out this cool new band, Candy Ambulance, they freakin’ rock!!!

A new band from Saratoga Springs just released their debut album for free on bandcamp. The album is called, “The Mudwife” by a band called, Candy Ambulance. I gave it a listen myself and had to download the album for myself. I couldn’t stop listening to it. It’s an excellent album. It’s a three piece band and all three are great musicians. I listened to this album a couple of times and I think I’m already a big fan of this band.

This band plays original music but if you like 90’s alternative music and if you miss that genre, you would dig this album. This album will remind you of bands such as the Pixies, Sonic Youth and maybe some Nirvana as well.

The woman’s voice on this album is really good and I think she’s a great guitar player as well. I wanna try to go out and see this band live next time they play out. This band maybe pretty new but I think there is something special about them and they could be big in the future.

Check this band out and give them some love. They’re awesome! I was pretty impressed with the album and can’t stop listening to it. I hope this band stays together for a pretty long time.

Bob Dylan’s speech at MusicCares really was powerful, inspiring and moving… thanks Bob!!!

I was never that big of a Bob Dylan fan over the years but I guess I am now. Bob Dylan’s half hour speech at MusiCares is not in youtube yet… couldn’t find the video online anywhere so I read the transcript.

Read it here…

Bob Dylan’s Full MusiCares Speech: How He Wrote the Songs, a Master Class Must Read

My favorite part is when Bob lashed out at his critics and haters about his singing and songwriting, Bob said…

“Oh, yeah. Critics have been giving me a hard time since Day One. Critics say I can’t sing. I croak. Sound like a frog. Why don’t critics say that same thing about Tom Waits? Critics say my voice is shot. That I have no voice. What don’t they say those things about Leonard Cohen? Why do I get special treatment? Critics say I can’t carry a tune and I talk my way through a song. Really? I’ve never heard that said about Lou Reed. Why does he get to go scot-free?
What have I done to deserve this special attention? No vocal range? When’s the last time you heard Dr. John? Why don’t you say that about him? Slur my words, got no diction. Have you people ever listened to Charley Patton or Robert Johnson, Muddy Waters. Talk about slurred words and no diction. [Inaudible] doesn’t even matter.” – Bob Dylan

——————————————————-

I’m feeling him though ’cause I’m in the same boat as him. People gave me shit about my singing, songwriting and talent since day 1 as well. Seriously, people around the music scene online and off gave me a lot of shit but I never cared. I just played music and continued to play ’cause that’s what I do. It’s what I live for.

People always had this debate on whether I was a professional musician or a “hobbyist” but my thought is who cares? If music is what you love to do then go for it, ya know? You don’t have to be the best singer in the world and don’t have to be great at your instrument to do what you love to do. If you can’t sing, who cares.. just go for it. Singers like Neil Young and Billy Corgan weren’t the best vocalists either but they sing anyway ’cause they love it.

People have said lot of nasty things about my singing over the years… talking about having a speech impediment and all that crap. Who cares? Everybody else doesn’t sing all that perfect either. Other peoples speech is a lot worse than my own and they don’t get flak for it.

You don’t have to be a good singer to write songs and make music. As long as the music says something and has heart, that’s all that matters, ya know?

Over the years, I’ve struggled to get recognized as a songwriter. There are local music websites around this area that refused to promote me when I submitted my music to them for a possible shout-out or a small review but got nothing. I usually get mocked, bullied and get made fun of by other musicians around the area and all that rotten garbage. All the cliques did their best and tried to make me feel left out.

So yeah, I’m in the same boat as Dylan. How did I get all of this special attention as well?

You never saw me get on the cover of the Metroland or get a review on Nippertown but that’s okay.

I’m happy what I’m doing is writing songs and making music… that’s all that matters. This music scene likes to make me feel like I’m nothing but that’s okay, let ’em, ya know? I’m a musician like everyone else and no different than them.

Bob Dylan got so much negativity over the years and I can’t blame him for ranting like this. He just wanted to rant and get it off of his system and this was his opportunity. Why was the speech a half-hour? Because he’s fucking Bob Dylan! He’s a legend, he can talk as long as he wants! Rock on, Bob, and thanks! \m/

Why the “you should only care about your own music” is the best attitude to have…

Bands like Metallica and Phish are two of the most hated bands on this planet. You know what? I’m sure both of these bands are 100% aware of their haters but they don’t give a fuck. That’s part of the reason why I respect both of these bands so much. Despite all the hate and disrespect that Metallica & Phish gets, they just keep going and keep doing what they do. They don’t care about drama. They don’t care about assholes & losers. The only thing they’re focused on is playing music for themselves and their fans. Bands who respond to negativity and drama are most likely to fail at music. Bands shouldn’t respond to negativity of any kind ’cause if they do, it’s career suicide.

The secret to being successful in music and playing music positively is ignoring all the bullshit. Just keep playing your music and ignore everybody.

This is the same attitude that you should have as a local musician. Don’t get yourself involved in any kind of drama and negativity. Yeah, there are gonna be a lot of assholes and all kinds of weird people. There are gonna be a lot of cliques in music for sure but you wanna stay out of that stuff.

I know, “Only caring about your music” may sound kind of selfish but it’s the right thing to do these days.

I’m proud of the music I make. I know I can be a great songwriter… not trying to sound like an egomaniac. If you like what you do musically, you gotta learn to stay above negativity and drama at all times. I guess the way it goes in music, that when you put yourself out there… it opens the doors for criticism so you gotta be ready for it all.

Just learn that not everybody is gonna like you. That’s just the way it is. I would appreciate if I would get more respect and be liked but that’s not what I play music for honestly. I pretty much play music for myself for the most part and I’m always flattered if people out there actually like my music. Whether or not people like me… I’m good either way.

Yeah, I kind of wanna get back out there playing live again ’cause I honestly do miss performing in front of an audience. I was just waiting to write a new batch of songs and learn some new covers to play out. Maybe I’ll hit some open mics first before booking actual gigs. Some people wonder why I do cover songs… well for one thing, I love cover songs. They’re fun to do and I enjoy ’em. I always thought it was important to do both covers and originals.

If I wanna get myself back out there, I gotta ignore all bullshit… online and off. I’m not gonna lie that this music scene is pretty crazy… yes in a bad way.

I am a supporter of other bands & musicians, though. Don’t get me wrong. I just can’t support everything so I just support the bands & artists that I like. The ones that grab my attention.

I gotta be like Metallica and Phish. Not giving a fuck about the haters and just do my thing. You should do the same. Just play music ’cause you enjoy it. It’s the right attitude to have as a musician. Not giving a fuck is what playing music is about, in my opinion.

I love what I do.

Once I get all that new music recording gear which I’m currently saving up for, I’ll get back into making new music again in 2015. I’ll write a lot more originals and learn new covers. I wanna play out again too ’cause I haven’t done that in a while.

On top of that, if you get a lot of haters that’s not necessarily a bad thing ’cause it actually helps your music. Just something to think about, right? All bands and musicians have haters. They all have ’em whether they want to admit it or not ’cause a lot of them will be too coward to admit it. I’m not afraid to admit it as you can see.

Just keep rockin’ and ignore everybody. That’s all there is to it!

As a musician you don’t need to be the “Yes man”… what about being realistic for a change???

There’s a lot of musicians out there who are “yes men”. There are too many that live under the delusion of supporting everything positively. Too many that agree withe everything and too many that says, “yes”, to everything. In my opinion, they just do it to be “nice”. As a way to be “polite” and have a “professional” attitude in music. They also do it just to try to be supportive of musicians and the local music scene. Sorry to say but you don’t need to be any of those things. Playing the “yes” man is probably the most unprofessional attitude I’ve ever seen. Being realistic and honest is what’s being a “professional” is all about, in my opinion. Of course, nobody knows what being realistic is anymore. Being realistic is probably the best way to be.

Examples of musicians playing the “yes man”. Bands & musicians saying “yes” to every gig that’s thrown at them. Agreeing with everything they see when there’s some type of discussion going on. Supporting all of the musicians and bands “positively” even if their music is crap. Supporting every big event like festivals, competitions, award shows, etc.

I never liked being the “yes man” type. That’s never been me. I like being the real and honest type. If I get asked a gig and didn’t agree with it, I would have no problem turning it down. If I don’t like a band’s music, it’s my choice to ignore them and voice my opinion that they suck. If I don’t like how bands run their shows, I would have no problem voicing it out publicly. If I don’t like a musicians attitude and think they’re an asshole & a dickhead, don’t be afraid to voice it out. Don’t be supportive of them if they do have a horrible attitude. I think you get the idea now, right?

It’s about being realistic and honest with me. When you want to be realistic and honest, people will try to paint you as a jealous and hateful troll or a bully but that’s okay, let ’em. In my eyes, there’s nothing wrong with being this way at all. It’s just who you are. You’re just being you and there’s nothing wrong with it. Be who you wanna be. That’s the kind of attitude to have as a musician. Be real with yourself and don’t take yourself serious, people will respect you a lot more. You’re not gonna make a lot of friends with a realistic and honest attitude but the right “friends” will come along and enjoy what you do. They will give you the utmost respect for being “real”. That’s probably part of why I have a lot of subscribers and why people are supportive and why people follow everything I do online.

I like being “real” instead of being the positive and happy and lovable type. Don’t get me wrong. I can be the positive, happy and lovable type but I’m not afraid to be honest and real also.

I am not a “local music” hater. I am actually pretty supportive of local musicians and bands. I can’t support all music out there ’cause there is so much music out there and that’s why I only support the music that I like and ignore the stuff I don’t like. I do support local music, I just feel the need to be realistic which so many people are afraid to do these days. I know I’m gonna make a lot of enemies with my honesty but that’s okay. As long as people are talking, it lets me know I’m saying the right things and getting my points across. From my understanding when people get mad, they just don’t like the truth being told.

Being the “yes man” is being a fake person and I don’t wanna be that. I prefer to be honest and real with things. Makes life better and easier that way.

The Cammy’s cancelled which doesn’t surprise me at all, good riddance, though!!!

https://www.facebook.com/events/347418755430021/347427765429120

“FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE: Due to a lack of support from our music community, it is with a heavy heart that we announce this years 2014 Capital Area Music Awards, scheduled for January 25, 2015, has been cancelled. We truly appreciate the support of so many people in the development stage. It is our sincere hope that someday we may join together for a night of musical community and unite as one! If you have purchased advanced tickets, refunds are available where tickets were purchased. Thanks you.” – Greg Gamache

If you wanna know why these guys behind “The Cammy’s” have been silent, here ya go. It doesn’t surprise me that the show will get cancelled due to “lack of support”. Why for the “lack of support”? It’s because no one cares about award shows. That’s not what we play music for to begin with. Everybody knows that last year’s award show was such a disaster and we didn’t want to go through it again this year. Plus, most importantly everybody knows that Dan of Tier One Talent is an egotistical piece of shit who wasn’t to be trusted at all. Everybody knows that you guys behind this garbage setup an award show so you can win yourselves awards ’cause you were that desperate for attention.

I’m sure these idiots didn’t get too many bands/musicians sending in their submissions hoping for a nomination… that could be part of the reason for the cancellation and also, lack of ticket sales is another reason. As you can see in Greg’s post about the cancellation, people are replying blaming the area which is inappropriate and unprofessional. You have no one else to blame but yourselves.

Hopefully, this award show goes away and stays away forever. GOOD RIDDANCE!!!! Celebrate! Shows over for them!!!!

Thank you for ignoring this show, Capital District! That’s why you guys, rock!!! \m/

Where are those nominations for The Cammy’s???

Predictably, they’re like late for the nominees or the final ballots??? They were supposed to be posted like today. It’s almost 10:00 p.m. Not up on the site yet.

See, same bullshit like last year. They were late for everything last year… late for the nominees list and late for the winners list. They’ll get posted tomorrow or later this week.

If they really cared for the music community and doing something “positive” for the scene, they would stay committed with the promotion with this garbage show and be responsible but nope… the final ballots haven’t been posted all day.

Either that or they got out of their delusions of grandeur and finally realized that no one cares. I’m sure they’ll get posted at some point, though but when it gets posted, I’ll make fun of it and bash it. It’ll be fun.

Kristen Capolino has a new album coming out next week in Itunes…

Kristen Capolino is a young guitar virtuoso from upstate NY and she’s got her debut full length album coming out next week, Tues. Dec. 16th. I’ve been a fan of her stuff for a while. Check out her live performances in youtube.

I was pretty impressed with this song in the video below. I really liked it so I think I’m gonna get her album.

Kristen is awesome. Check her out.

NOTE: Posted the wrong video, the correct video is above. Check it out. Her song, “Butterfly” is worth a listen!

More truth of the Cammy Awards…

You wouldn’t believe how much it costs to put together an event like the Cammy Awards (http://www.thecammys.net/) at a venue called, The Linda in Albany. I just contacted the Linda in Albany via e-mail out of curiosity of their rental pricing of the venue. The fact is that anybody can have a show or an event at The Linda as long as you can pay their hourly rates. The owners doesn’t really go by the number of people attending the gig or how good/bad the show is. Anybody can rent The Linda as long you have that kind of money. Wanna know how much it costs hourly to rent the place?

I got a response from the venue back and they said it costs somewhere between $500 – $1000. As I predicted before… it’s not cheap. So to do the math, since the show starts at 5:00 p.m., it’ll probably go on ’til like late in the evening like 9 or 10 or later. So in all, the show is gonna cost them like several thousand dollars or more.

I really don’t think this Tier One Talent guy is paying for this all by himself. He’s definitely having some help with the budgeting of this show. I’m sure the show costs a lot more than the hourly rates. I’m sure they’ll have to pay to decorate the place, pay the bands and all that stuff.

The reason they want to have this event at The Linda is ’cause The Linda is like a theatre, I think. They clearly want this show to be like a mini-version of The Grammy’s like you see on TV.

In my opinion, they are wasting tons of money on a show that no one cares about.

According to the website, they say the nominations are supposed to be revealed on Dec. 15th which is next Monday. If your band or venue gets nominated… congratulations but don’t get so excited about it… I warn ya. Instead of the talented bands that matter around here winning the awards, they won’t win awards but instead Tier One’s Talent and his gang of friends will be winning awards. It’s gonna be the same bullshit like last year. They’re just a bunch of egomaniacs and attention whores trying to get recognized for what they do. They’re just a bunch of losers putting together their own award show so they can win themselves awards and show the Capital District how special and cool they are. I repeat, egomaniacs and people with delusions of grandeur. They are a bunch of people who are legends in their own minds.

When last year’s award show happened, I can’t tell you how many times I warned certain bands & musicians who were nominated and warned them not to trust this show but sure enough, they didn’t listen to me. They didn’t win the awards and they ended up getting disappointed. Same bullshit will happen this year.

I wouldn’t be surprised if Tier One Talent guy shitty Alice In Chains tribute band, Sludge Factory is gonna get a few nominations, that’s probably why this guy stepped down from being in charge of promoting this show on the facebook page.

Don’t be naive, Capital District. Don’t support these people behind this bullshit event. I can’t wait to see the nominations next week. It’s gonna be a good laugh!!!

Kev

Once again, nobody cares about local award shows, the whole idea is silly…

We understand what you’re trying to do, dude but nobody cares about awards. That’s why nobody supports this garbage. On top of that bands and music artists around here doesn’t have the time for it ’cause most of them are too busy making music and playing their gigs.  We’re not worried about awards. Everybody also knows that this show is all for your conflict of interest, we’re not stupid, dude.

The only people that DO care about this garbage event are your little gang of friends and those few who live under the delusion of supporting the “scene” positively.

You guys live under the delusion of this show “selling out” when I predict you probably will get like 10 people showing up or less.

How come you guys never showed photos of the awards? What do the trophies look like? I challenge you to post a photo of the award.

Kev

Kelly Zullo, the next acoustic guitar virtuoso???

I may have posted about this woman named Kelly Zullo in the past before but I came across another one of her live performances which was pretty phenomenal.

Guitar World magazine just gave her a shout-out (congrats to her, btw) and they just posted this video on GW’s facebook page. She’s getting a lot of criticism. People saying negative things about her playing, claiming that she’s playing too many notes and over-playing. If they truly believe that, then why don’t say that to Al Di Meola?

This is pretty impressive playing on this video. Is Kelly over-playing and playing too many notes? If so, who cares. Guitar players play what they want to play. They play from the heart and play whatever makes them happy. If they want to play fast notes and shred the guitar to death, more power to ’em. I like that kind of guitar playing on the acoustic and it takes guts to play like that.

There are so many acoustic players out there playing basic rhythm and do nothing but finger picking. A lot of acoustic players don’t wanna play with feeling and play with melody.

I remember Kelly used to play around the Capital District area in Albany quite a lot but it looks like she moved to NYC and she’s playing everywhere now which is good for her. I’ve been a fan of her music for a while.

She’s gonna be something special in the music business. How come this woman isn’t signed to a label yet when she should be???

This is pretty sick playing. To be able to play guitar like that and sing at the same time, wow. I wish I could play guitar like she does. I’m a pretty decent acoustic guitarist but I’m not even close the way she plays. Kelly’s gonna be on the cover of all the guitar magazines, someday.
