“Game of Thrones” premiere review

Last night, I watched the TV show, “Game of Thrones”, the most anticipated TV series that a lot of people including myself have been dying to see for a long time is finally here.

The story begins with Lord Ned Stark (pictured above) executed a deserter of the Night Watch, because he have seen mythical monsters during his patrol beyond the Great Ice Wall. Stark is a retired gunfighter, who wants to protect his family from evil and danger. King Robert returns to Ned’s castle to offer a position as top advisor for the King’s Hand. Lady Catelyn discovers a secret, which makes the series, become part mystery.

The episode “Winter Is Coming”, is just a simple introduction. It starts the storyline explained above, introduces all the characters and what’s going on with the show. The show started off kind of slow but I’m sure it will get better as time goes along. This is just the beginning.

I’m a huge fan of medieval stories and fantasy. So I know I’m going to love this and be watching this show every Sunday. I liked the way the show was filmed. It made you feel like during that time was actually believable and real. The acting of the cast was phenomenal so I think there might be upcoming Golden Globe awards coming their way. I loved Ned Stark as a character, Sean Bean has always been a great actor. I’m sure he was hired for this show because they loved his work with the, “Lord of the Rings” movies. The other characters are so great and unique. The series is part western and part fantasy. I’m sure we will see more action and battle scenes up ahead.

Best of all, there’s plenty of naked women and sex throughout the show. It’s amazing how beautiful the women are in this show. My favorite woman so far in this show is Princess Daenerys. Khal Drogo is also a great character. I’m already seeing Khal Drogo being this unstoppable monster who is a great fighter, even though he didn’t get into any action yet, by the looks of his character. When you look at Khal Drogo, you say to yourself, “Oh man, that guy looks dangerous”.

I’m looking forward to seeing the rest of the show to see where it’s headed. So consider me a fan.

A look at Pee Wee Herman’s successful comeback…

The Pee Wee Herman character was first brought to fame on HBO for the “Pee Wee Herman Show” in 1981. The Pee Wee character started off as a stand up comic at first. How did Paul Reubens create the character? Where did Pee Wee come from? The Pee Wee Herman character was inspired by an improvisational comedy team that Reubens used to be in, way back in the 70’s. The character went from there. Paul wanted the character to be an adult man that acts like a child. After the “Pee Wee Herman Show” aired on HBO in 1981, the character became hugely popular quickly. The character wasn’t just made for children, the character is mainly aimed to entertain adult audiences.

Since the characters success, the character became a little more mainstream in pop culture when Reubens teamed up with Tim Burton to bring the character to the big screen with a film titled, “Pee Wee’s Big Adventure”, about a man out to find his stolen bicycle. The film was a major hit. The movie inspired a new TV series that is supposed to be aimed for children titled, “Pee Wee’s Playhouse”, which is supposed to tone down the adult content and make it a family friendly series. The show was very successful and lasted for 5 seasons, it went from 1986 – 1991.

In 1988, another Pee Wee film was brought to the big screen, titled, “Big Top Pee Wee”, directed by Randal Kleiser. The film is about Pee Wee wanting to become a famous singer in front of screaming fans, so he does it by joining a circus in which he falls in love with a trapeze artist named, Gina. The film flopped in the box office.

In 1991, Reubens was arrested for masturbating in a adult porno theater. This forced, “Pee Wee’s Playhouse” to be canceled and Paul retired the Pee Wee character. During the 1990’s, Paul still acted in a variety of films while not in the Pee Wee character. He had roles, in “Buffy the Vampire Slayer”, “Batman Returns”, “Matilda”, “Blow”, and many other films.

In 2002, Reubens was arrested again being accused of collecting child pornography. Reubens pleaded not guilty and charges were dropped in 2004, clearing his name from the law. In 2004, Reubens father died of cancer.

In January of 2009, Reubens suddenly announced that he is finally giving Pee Wee Herman, a huge comeback. Now that he finally got his personal life straightened out, he figured this would be a perfect time to bring the character back to the mainstream. To hype up his return, he appeared in a slew of late night talk shows such as Jimmy Kimmel, Letterman, Conan O’ Brien, etc. to announce a four week show schedule at Club Nokia to bring his character to the stage. The shows were a major success, which gave Pee Wee an opportunity to bring Pee Wee’s Playhouse back to the stage on Broadway in New York City.

The New York City Broadway show aired last night on HBO for the first time. It was a very entertaining show. I loved it. I laughed all the way through and had a smile on my face, the entire time. I’m happy for Paul that he came back with Pee Wee in a huge way. All the characters from Pee Wee’s Playhouse, made a return last night, the whole gang. Cowboy Curtis, Captain Carl, Miss Yvonne, The King of Cartoons, Jambi, Chairry, Mr. Window, the Ant Farm, Penny the Claymation cartoon, etc. Yes, the whole gang.

Paul Reubens did a great job. I’m proud of him. What’s next for Pee Wee after this? Hopefully another big screen movie for the character. I think it’s time for a third Pee Wee film, don’t you? Pee Wee is successful enough that he deserves another film. Him and Judd Appatow are working on a script for another one, so that’s good news. Whether the next Pee Wee film will be based on the Playhouse show or another Tim Burton styled movie, I don’t care, either way is good for me. I just want him back on the big screen. I’ll see the new film, no matter what the material is. Congrats Paul!

Thought: More “True Blood” vs. “Twilight” talk, which franchise is better???

A lot of people like to argue that “True Blood” TV series is better than the “Twilight Saga” franchise. People think the writing in “True Blood” is better and the acting is better than the “Twilight” franchise. It should be no secret to you, that I’m no fan of “True Blood” and I find the “Twilight” franchise to be better. A lot of people accuse “Twilight” of being a Jerry Springer like soap opera, when the reality is, “True Blood” is pretty much the same thing. The writing is good in “True Blood”? Are you serious?

I find “True Blood” to be very overrated. The writing for the show is horrible for a lot of reasons. I think “True Blood” makes the vampire genre so embarrassing, it’s not even funny. Why??? Does “True Blood” tell good stories? Every time I try to watch the show, I just don’t get it. “True Blood” is more soft-core porn than actual storytelling. Stephenie Meyer’s got the vampire thing, right, ’cause she wants to show that vampires don’t have to concentrate on sex. I don’t understand why people find, “True Blood” so good when everyone complains about soap operas in the entertainment business. Lot of hypocrisy there.

In “True Blood”, the show wants vampire to feel part of this world, while, in “Twilight” Stephenie wants vampires to stay away from humans and be more mysterious. That’s the way vampires should be done.

I think Lafayette making an AIDS burger scene to be offensive, doesn’t make any sense in so many ways. I can go on for hours on how “True Blood” is such a horrible series for vampires but people in facebook are all over this show, talking about it, saying how great it is. Yes, I believe “True Blood” will get it’s own movie for the big screen, once the show is over and done with on TV, like what happened to “Star Trek” and “Sex and the City”. That will happen down the road, I’m sure. I don’t watch “True Blood” ’cause I find it an embarrassment that they turn it into soft-core porn. It’s just as simple as that.

I know vampires are supposed to be sexual, but it needs to be done the right way. Anne Rice does sex with vampires the right way, “True Blood” just doesn’t cut it. Sorry, “True Blood” fans!

Sex and the City, the first movie…

So last night, I watched the first “Sex and the City” movie on HBO again. I still don’t understand the hate toward this franchise. I still don’t find anything wrong with the first movie. The way I looked at the film, it was nothing all that bad. There is not much gay material in it, just very briefly with a few minor scenes. The film is simply about the 4 women reuniting again from the TV show. Of course, they do their usual talking about men and how bad they are at relationships. The film mostly focuses on trashy fashion. People hate the series because of it’s trashy fashion? That’s the point of it. It’s suppposed to be trashy and ugly. The reason for this is, that the 4 women wants to prove that the aging professional working women are not always perfect. The series want people to hate their trashy fashion.

The thing is, it’s just a movie. That’s all it is. Why are guys out there calling it a chick flick, when I’m sure men saw plenty of chick flicks in their lives at some point. “Ghost” = chick flick, “Pretty Woman” = chick flick, “Titanic” = chick flick, “Dirty Dancing” = chick flick, “Moulin Rouge” = chick flick”, “My Big Fat Greek Wedding” = chick flick, “Thelma & Louise” = chick flick, “Julia & Julia” = chick flick, etc. I can go on with the list.

“Sex and the City” is not really aimed directly at women, even though the show is popular with women. For the record, the person who created the series, Michael Patrick King, happens to be a man. Yes, he is openly gay but they can still be interested in straight relationships, nothing wrong with that. The series is mostly about straight relationships.

I’ll be looking forward to seeing the sequel tomorrow. I know the sequel comes out today, but I have to see it tomorrow ’cause it’s my day off of work.

In defense of “Sex and the City”: From a man’s perspective…

This woman wrote a nice blog defending “Sex and the City”, the popular HBO TV series that was turned into theatrical films.

Check it out here:

http://www.guidetoonlineschools.com/blog/2010/05/25/in-defense-of-sex-and-the-city/

I’m not afraid to say that I am a fan of the show. Was a fan of “Sex and the City” TV series when it was aired on HBO years back. Used to watch it all the time late nights. Watched every season, pretty obsessively, I believe. I never saw the first “Sex and the City” movie in theater, but actually watched it on HBO just a couple of weeks ago actually. I did like, the first “Sex and the City” movie. It was interesting.

A lot of men would trash the show, calling it a chick flick but is it really a “chick” flick? Please be honest now. I don’t see the series being a chick flick. It’s not even close. I think people are missing the point that the show was originally made for straight men and I’m about to explain why. The show’s main plot point is 4 women who do nothing but talk about men. Why? Because they want to make their romance and sex lives better. The 4 women like to make men look terrible by talking about men all the time. We all know that women’s favorite things to do is to talk about how horrible men are. I think the point of the series is that they want straight men to watch this, to give them a wake up call about what women really think of men.

And this is the reason, I’m a fan of the series. I like to learn women’s feelings on things and how they think. The writing is really good stuff, very insightful and intelligent. Men don’t want to admit they like the series ’cause they think it’s for women only, but some men end up becoming fans of the show as well. The series is not just 4 women trying to make their love lives better. It’s also more about serious things. The series tried to wake people up on sexually transmitted disease, safe sex, and promiscuity. So that’s another reason straight males should be watching the series, so they can get a wake up call, on safe sex.

I’ve seen the trailer for “Sex and the City 2” and will probably go and check the film out. Probably sometime next week. Yeah, I’m a fan of the series. Always had been. Remember, the show is not just about 4 women talking about men, the show’s goal is to help promote safe sex. End of story.

BREAKING NEWS: Bryant Gumbel has lung cancer…

Bryant Gumbel, the host of HBO’s “Real Sports” and the former head anchor of “The Today Show” announced on “Live with Regis and Kelly” that he has lung cancer. He explained the surgery live on TV and was pretty open about it. He says he kept the lung cancer to himself and wanted to make the news public on TV.

More on it here:

Cancer sucks. Get well soon Bryant and fight it!

Top 10 acts that should have been at Rock and Roll Hall of Fame 25th Anniversary show…

So the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame had their 25th Anniversary show in New York City at Madison Square Garden. There were some very important musical acts that I think they left off the show that should have been there.

Eric Clapton should have been there, but he pulled out due to being sick.

What other Rock and Roll Hall of Fame inductees that should have been part of the action???

My list here:

David Bowie
Ac/Dc
Van Halen
John Mellencamp
Tom Petty
Neil Young
Elton John
Van Morrison
Bob Dylan
Chuck Berry

I’m sure the Hall of Fame officials tried asking them, but maybe they turned them all down.

Thought: “True Blood” is the worst garbage I’ve ever seen, why is the show so popular? I think I know why!

The popularity of this new show on HBO, a vampire series “True Blood” that stars Anna Paquin, is possibly one of the worst shows on television. I’m sorry but it’s that bad. I hate it. I tried to watch several episodes, but the writers of these vampires series has made the vampire supernatural look embarrassing and silly.

In “True Blood”, they try to make it look cool by having vampires be part of our everyday lives.Vampires that have families, they live in their own homes and lives part of the town, they even work jobs as well. Lame.

Stephenie Meyer’s “Twilight” is more realistic and different. In “Twilight”, Stephenie’s versions of vampires don’t die in the sunlight, they don’t die with a stake in the heart, and not afraid of garlic. The only way to kill a vampire in “Twilight” is to rip it to pieces and burn it to ashes.

In “True Blood”, however…they do die with a stake in the heart and die in sunlight, only survive at night. They are afraid of the cross, hate garlic, but there are new additions…silver hurts them, and fire also kills them.

The acting in “True Blood” is really bad and the stories are just silly, it’s almost like a soap opera circus, a complete rip off to “Dark Shadows”.

Stephenie’s “Twilight” is better because she makes the vampire stories seem realistic as if it’s actually happening. “True Blood” doesn’t do that.

I love vampire stories, it’s my favorite in the horror genre, but I prefer Bram Stoker’s “Dracula” or “Nosferatu” for my vampire fix. “True Blood” is complete garbage and I don’t understand why people watch it. I think it’s because they know nothing about vampires yet and now vampire stories are getting mainstream again, new people that are just getting into it are seeing what this vampire stuff is all about.

These are coming from people who don’t read classic vampire stories from the 1950’s or don’t watch the classic vampire movies like all the Bela Lugosi and Christopher Lee stuff. Those are true vampire stories in my opinion.

“True Blood” wants to change it all and I don’t like it. Stephenie’s stories with “Twilight” is exceptionally great, but I prefer the old classic vampire stuff. That’s the way to be.

Vampires are supposed to be scary and frightening. “True Blood” isn’t doing that. I think people watch it because of the sexual content plus they find Anna Paquin hot. I don’t even find her to be that great looking to be honest. She’s not a sexy vampire.

I would prefer Kate Beckinsale in “Underworld” or Ann Parillaud in “Innocent Blood”, they are sexy female vampires, in my opinion.

I wish “True Blood” would get cancelled, but sadily, I see the show going on for a long time since it’s mainstream popularity.
