Bjork’s new album “Vulnicura” brief review…

So I finally gotten around to buying Bjork’s newest album, “Vulnicura”. The album was originally supposed to be released later this Spring but due to the album leak, it got released early.

I’ve been a fan of her music for years. Been a fan of hers ever since her “Debut” album came out in 1993. I remember when MTV first aired the “Human Behavior” video that’s when I fell in love with her and have loved her ever since. I used to have that album “Debut” on CD when I was young but don’t know what happened to it. I probably gotten rid of it but I’ll buy that album again from Itunes soon.

Anyway back to her new album, “Vulnicura”, this is a concept album. A collection of songs that tells real-life stories about her divorce with her ex-husband, Matthew Barney. I guess you can say this is an autobiographical album for her and this is a really personal album. It’s an album about heartbreak. The songs on this album are very sad and powerful. If you listen to this record better get yourself a box of tissues ’cause this album could really do it to you. This album almost brought tears to my eyes as well. You can really feel the sadness of Bjork’s heartbreak ’cause that’s how the songs felt.

In her divorce, she felt destroyed and she probably have been in an emotional wreck for a long while. She wanted to show all that in her songs. You can hear the sadness in her singing. That’s what I love about artists. They write whatever feeling they have inside of them. Whenever they are angry, happy and sad… they get it all out of their system in song. That’s what Bjork did. If you listen to the two songs below, you would see what I mean.

I’ve been a fan of hers for years and I heard most of her albums. I think this is her best album in her career, it really blew my fucking mind. No wonder it got leaked early. Usually when albums get leaked early, it’s gotta be that damn good. I’m happy I got this album and I’m gonna be listening to it a lot, I think. You should give it a listen yourself.

Lars Ulrich says new Metallica album is pretty close to being completed…

Lars of Metallica gave us an update on the band’s new upcoming album. They have at least 20 songs for it so far and they are still honing them and tweaking them. In other words, putting on their finishing touches. Once they get that done, I’m sure they’ll pick the songs for the album which should be about 10 – 15 songs depending on how long they are. You know, Metallica always loved to write long songs. I’m sure it’ll be the same format for this album. Once they pick all the songs they’re happy with, I’m sure they’ll do all the mixing and mastering next.

Metallica doesn’t plan to shove this album in our faces like Beyonce or U2 did. Will their new song “Lords of Summer” make it on there? Who knows. We’ll have to wait and see. One thing with Metallica, they put together songs for albums that whatever works for the album itself not because we all like it. Whatever works for the band. So don’t be surprised if they don’t include that song for the next album.

That’s how these guys make their albums. Just record a bunch of songs and release the best ones.

Look like they’re taking their next album a little more seriously this time and not rushing things ’cause I remember they totally rushed, “Death Magnetic”.

As for a producer, I hope they don’t bring back Rick Rubin or Bob Rock ’cause that would be bad. They need a good producer for once that would give them good sound quality for their music. While Metallica have been my favorite band for years, I’ll admit they could improve their sound quality for their albums ’cause that is one thing the band is pretty bad at. I kind of agree that on “Death Magnetic” you can’t hear Rob’s bass and the album is full of clipping all over. That’s their problem, they’re not the best at production.

I want a good Metallica album with great sound quality that could make everyone happy for once.

Will they go back to thrash metal for this next one? I’m sure some songs would be kind of thrashy yes but I’m sure they’ll create a new sound once again. I’m sure there’s gonna be some slow ballads as well. That’s one thing I love about the band, they change their sound for every album. You never know what they’ll do each album. They’re always unpredictable. Always doing something different.

What happened to Faith No More? A band who I once respected turned to shit…

So Faith No More with Mike Patton and the guys have reunited. I respected this band back when “The Real Thing” album came out and that’s an album that I used to love. It used to be my favorite album.

Here they are coming out with a new song called, “Superhero” for their upcoming album and I think their new song is crap. What happened to the band who wrote excellent songs such as “Epic”, “Falling To Pieces” and “Zombie Eaters”???

Then they release an offensive photo which looks to have a guy on a leash who is covered in black leather and wearing a leather bondage mask. I can’t tell whether or not this photo is racist or gay or a little bit of both. I’m sure the Illuminati conspiracy theorists will be all over this photo as well.

Welcome to this day and age where bands can get away with being offensive all they want to and people will think it’s “cool”. That inspires me to write a future post about that and I will soon. I used to love FNM but their new songs have been crap. Even their other new song, “Motherfucker” was crap as well.

Jewel’s album, “Pieces of You” celebrates 20 years today…

Today, the music world celebrates 20 years of the release of Jewel’s iconic debut album, “Pieces of You”. This is one of the best selling albums of all time and this was the album that made Jewel Kilcher a huge star. This album was certified Platinum and made it to #4 on the Billboard Top 200. This album also got her the opportunity to perform at Woodstock ’99.

I used to be a huge fan of this album myself. Used to listen to it all the time when it first came out. I used to be a huge fan of the Alaskan Jewel but totally lost interest in her after her first couple of albums. I wish she would go back to being the powerful folk singer like she once was. She seems to be heading toward the pop & country direction which I don’t like.

Remember, Jewel was in her twenties when this album came out and she used to be real hot back then.

Mumford & Sons goes electric for new album???

Mumford & Sons are well-known as an indie folk group that plays acoustic instruments. They mostly wrote original folk songs but are they changing their direction in sound for new album? In the studio and on stage, you always saw them with acoustic instruments. I never saw them with electric instruments in their hands, correct me if I’m wrong. They’ve always used acoustic instruments like acoustic guitars, mandolins and upright bass.

Check them out in this video and what do you see? The singer has an electric guitar in his hands and the bass player is using an electric bass instead of an upright.

So are they going for a more rock n’ roll direction for their next album? That’s what it’s looking like to me. Looking forward to it as I am a fan of this band myself.

Kids play Led Zep tunes on xylophones!!!

This video may have came out a little while ago but it recently grabbed Jimmy Page’s attention and he put it right on his facebook page. This video has now gone viral and is now over 2 million views. A group of children perform Zeppelin songs on Xylophones.

Who ever the teacher must be is obviously a really huge Zeppelin fan and a really good teacher.

This is how you get kids interested in music and rock n’ roll. If I ever get kids on my own, I’m gonna get them into rock n’ roll music and guitar playing and stuff. When I was a kid, I was obsessed with rock n’ roll. It was the genre I grew up my entire life listening to. When you have kids, you don’t give them Guitar Hero or Rock Band, you give them real instruments.

Happy birthday, Johnny Cash…

I’m not really all that big on country music. There are only very few country artists that I like and Johnny Cash is one of them. I can listen to Johnny Cash all the time and never get tired of it. I have all of Johnny’s American albums except for the first one that was released in 1994 but I plan on grabbing it from Itunes soon. I also have a greatest hits album of all of Cash’s classic songs and have two live albums of his (“Live at Folsom Prison” and “San Quentin”). Yeah, I am that huge of a Johnny Cash fan. In case you can’t tell, Johnny is a huge influence in my own songwriting as well.

Here are a few of my favorite songs of his. He has way too many good songs. Johnny never wanted to be a country star. He wanted to be a gospel singer… that’s why he made those American albums as a way for him to get away from country and make gospel inspired songs. Johnny always had a love for gospel music than country. He was forced to get into country just so he can have a career.

Was the 1985 Led Zeppelin reunion at Live Aid all that bad??? I vote no…

I’ve been reading a lot about Led Zeppelin lately through books and stuff and I’ve been reading about how Robert and Jimmy didn’t like their 1985 reunion with Phil Collins. They were saying that this performance was really bad. Led Zep fans seem to agree that this performance was their worst.

I decided to go to youtube and give it a listen myself. Technically, this isn’t a bad performance at all. Sure, the musicians on stage weren’t the best. The two drummers were way off, Jimmy may have sounded out of tune a bit and Robert’s singing weren’t the best but hey… keep in mind that playing on stage is not always gonna be about perfection, ya know?

When you play in a band, keep in mind that you can’t expect every performance to be so great. Some nights you’re gonna be great and some nights you’re gonna be bad on stage. That’s how it is.

I thought they sounded pretty good, in my opinion. Could have been better but they were okay. Yeah, this performance was unrehearsed and rushed but that’s the beauty of live performing, ya know? You never know what to expect. These guys shouldn’t have been insecure with themselves in this performance and sometimes they can be their own worst critic.

If you get up on stage and play with a bunch of musicians you never played with before and haven’t rehearsed and if you sucked, who cares, ya know? That’s the beauty of music. It was never about perfection. So I think Led Zep and the fans really need to relax about this performance. It wasn’t all that bad and you still have to give them props for the effort in trying. Even though they weren’t at their best, they still pumped up the audience anyways.

When you play live the last thing you wanna do is worry about if you’re gonna be good or bad. Just get up and play. That’s it.

Whenever I play a show myself, I never worry about whether I’m gonna be good or bad. I just get up on stage to see what happens. If I was good, great. If I sucked, oh well, not the end of the world. You can never tell whether you’re gonna be good or bad. Just get up there and do your thing. Playing live is not about how good or bad you are, it’s about the enjoyment of music and loving it.
